About this campaign
Four years ago, a Bluetick Coonhound mix was surrendered after abuse, unnamed and labeled “irreparably damaged.” The shelter named him Yoda and placed him in training programs, but doubted he could bond with humans. Today, Yoda lives in a stable, loving home where he is safe, deeply bonded, and thriving. Now a service dog for a trafficking survivor, we saved him—and he saved my daughter, Bee.
Yoda is in kidney failure caused by a congenital mutation where his ureters only connect on one side of his bladder, leading to severe complications. He is receiving urgent, ongoing care at Highlands Animal Hospital with Dr. Allison Frankenberger and will be referred to a specialist for possible corrective surgery.
Yoda was placed on an emergency euthanasia list with just 48 hours left when we brought him home. Over 4 years, with patience and trust, he became a seizure and cardiac alert service dog. He is gentle, intuitive, and deeply bonded to our family—supporting Bee, assisting Nan with cardiac issues and dementia, and attending therapy groups where he brings comfort to others.
We rely on disability income&a single working parent, and cannot afford the cost of emergency care and specialist surgery. Yoda is my service dog& the heart of our support system. He is also role model for my service dog in training, Fae, & his loss would deeply affect her.
