Zelda Eve is a two-month-old Chihuahua puppy in Los Angeles, CA, who needs $2,000 for urgent Parvo treatment.

Brookelle S. sprung into action on New Year's Eve after seeing a Facebook post about a chihuahua in need.

"I messaged the lady who was holding the dog," Brookelle tells Waggle. "Without seeing photos or knowing any information, I got in my car and met the lady at a public park. She confessed that this little dog was purchased in Mexico and was given to her friend as a Christmas present. I immediately took Zelda in."

The moment Brookelle got into her car with Zelda, she knew the pup was in bad shape. "She tried to nurse on my fiancé and me. We realized that she was starving and scared. I held her, sang to her, and hand-fed her baby food for the first 24 hours. The grateful look of affection she gave us broke my heart. How could someone not love this little dog? I had to do everything possible to save her life. From that moment on, she has been my little girl."

Then Zelda started to get very sick. Brookelle raced her to the animal hospital, where Zelda tested positive for Parvo, a potentially fatal virus. "When I received her Parvo diagnosis, I began hysterically crying. Zelda even licked the tears from my face, and I promised her I would fight for her. She wants nothing more than to be loved," Brookelle says.

Zelda is now at the Los Angeles Animal Specialty Emergency and Rehabilitation hospital, fighting for her life. Brookelle wasn't planning on taking in a deathly sick puppy, but when she saw Zelda's picture on social media, she knew she had to save her.

"2021 was extremely tough for us," Brookelle says. "I am a flight attendant and had been furloughed mid-2021 due to COVID-19. I lost my former Chihuahua of 13 years just three weeks before rescuing Zelda. My fiance and I are 100 percent dedicated to giving Zelda the best life possible. Despite her tough background, Zelda is extremely affectionate. She snuggles in my neck, and even at her sickest moments, she will try to make us happy."
