About this campaign
Zena started as a foster in November 2014. However, I quickly realized how special she was and began training her to become my service dog. A stranger had assaulted me a few months prior, permanently damaging my spine, and Zena helped me get back out in the world both physically and mentally. I could go anywhere with her. With her injured, I'm suddenly thrown back to a decade ago.
Zena is scheduled to have TPLO surgery to repair a torn CCL on October 21 at Skylos Surgical Center in Birmingham, MD with Dr. Fink. She is so big and needs to be so active that TPLO is the only CCL repair that is feasible. She can't wait any longer for surgery or her meniscus may fully tear. The vets agree she is very healthy and should recover well.
Zena is insanely smart and wants nothing more than to work for me. I know I will need to train a new service dog soon, but I can't do that until I can move into a house with a yard. With this surgery, Zena should last another 2 years, help me start working full-time, and allow me to move into a better housing situation.
The surgeon has discounted the surgery $1000+ already, but it will still cost $2000 more than my CareCredit credit. I am just starting to work part time after having been on SSDI for 5 yrs. I don't earn enough to cover my basic expenses, let alone this surgery. I need Zena in order to work.
