Help Chico Get Life-Saving Cardiac Care After Losing His Home

Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates

Chico is a 10-year-old Chihuahua who has spent his entire life deeply loved. His owner made sure he was always cared for — she had him neutered, kept him current on vaccines, and even provided daily pain medication to ease his arthritis. But when her own health declined and she had to move into a nursing home, she was heartbroken to say goodbye to her loyal companion. One By One stepped in to help Chico, determined to make sure this sweet senior would continue receiving the care he deserves. During his recent veterinary visit, it became clear that Chico’s health is fragile and he needs urgent follow-up care. His exam revealed abnormalities on his bloodwork, severe dental disease requiring extractions, and — most concerning — an abnormal heart rhythm and unusual heart sounds. While listening to him, the veterinarian noted a possible arrhythmia and even observed his tongue turning a shade of purple, suggesting possible low oxygen levels. These findings make a full cardiac workup essential before any dental surgery can safely be performed. Chico now needs an echocardiogram, ECG, and cardiac consultation with a specialist. These tests will determine whether he requires medication and how to safely proceed with his dental treatment. Unfortunately, the specialty clinic requires payment at the time of service, and the cost for the cardiac workup is $1,300. Additional expenses include: • Dental extractions estimated at $500 • Senior bloodwork already performed: $150 Although this sounds like a lot, Chico is only 10 years old and still has many happy years ahead of him with proper care. Helping him now not only improves his quality of life, but also brings tremendous comfort to the owner who loved him for so long and wants to know he is safe and cared for. Your donation will help Chico receive the cardiac testing he urgently needs and move forward with life-improving treatment. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps this sweet senior get closer to the care he deserves. Together, we can show Chico — and the people who love him — that senior dogs matter, and they deserve every chance to live their best life. 4/29/26 Update Yesterday, Chico made the long trip to MedVet for his full cardiology consultation, including an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) and ECG, and we truly received the best news we could have hoped for. While the veterinarian did confirm that Chico has two mildly leaky heart valves, these changes are considered age- and breed-related and, thankfully, do not require cardiac medication at this time. Even better — Chico has officially been cleared for anesthesia under a monitored cardiac protocol. This means we can now move forward with the next major step in his healing: addressing the severe dental disease that has likely been causing him chronic pain for quite some time. For a tiny senior dog, bad teeth are not just cosmetic — they are painful, dangerous, and can affect the entire body. Infected teeth and diseased gums can make eating miserable, worsen inflammation, and continue putting strain on his health if left untreated. Now that his heart has been evaluated, Chico desperately needs his dental procedure and extractions scheduled as soon as possible so he can finally eat comfortably, feel better, and enjoy the happy golden years he deserves. But we still need your help to get him there. The cardiology visit was a huge expense, and we are now actively fundraising for Chico’s upcoming dental surgery. This procedure is essential — not optional — and every day we wait is another day Chico continues living with pain in his mouth. Please donate and share to help us finish what we started for Chico. His best years are waiting — and we cannot get him there without you.

Liam

Liam is a 14 year old Mix-Breed in Avon, IN, who needs $1,000 for Imaging, Lab Work and Excision Surgery.

Avon, IN

Liam wondered into my life as a teeny tiny kitten who'd been left in the bushes across the street from my home. He is the patriarch of the house and nobody messes with him! He's my guy; constant companion and snuggle buddy. If you're looking for him, the chances are high that he's on my bed and in a very silly sleeping position. He's also great with kids; the best, in fact! Liam has a cyst on his neck. When we first had it examined there were no indications of malignancy and since it wasn't bothering him we decided not to put him through surgery, but now a lot has changed and it definitely needs to be removed. He has scratched the area bald and it constantly leaks, causing discomfort. Liam is Mr. Chatty, Grumpy Old Man. He always has a stern-looking expression, but the BEST purr in the world. He loves being up high, but is spending more time on soft low surfaces now that he's gotten older. He loves everyone once he warms up and is incredible with kids. He really puts up with a lot, even if you know he doesn't like it like, baths! He just gives me a pathetic meow and deals. We lost our Gemma, who was the best nanny dog you ever met, just last Fall. I am doing my best to keep everyone healthy, but can't do this on my own. I don't currently have income, but I'm working very hard to get back to having it & don't want him to have to wait.

Grafton, MA

Little Butt came into our lives approx 3/4 mon ago. One day after our house fire, we went to the food bank to find a tiny kitten being given away by a stranger. eagerly I accepted the role of mother to this tiny kitten. since then he has been a bundle of joy, wonderful temperament, cuddly, and affectionate. he loves playing with his big brother or our ducks, cuddling up on a lap, Less than 24 hours ago, I noticed little butt was having diarrhea along with a lot of blood in his stool. I immediately rushed over to the emergency room. At the emergency room, they gave me an option to admit him to the ER for further examination because at this point, he was not able to move unable to drink or eat. admitting him to the ER they said would cost approx 2000$ Little butts an affectionate playful bundle of fluff, his big brother Scooch and the ducks love playing with him. He’s a big lap cat & super cuddly at just 4 months He’s a tiny guy that thinks he’s a tiger & often goes up against his big brother in wrestling matches he loves being with people & hates to be alone. It would break my heart to not be able to save him because of my financial situation my fiancé lost his job due to Covid. I have an online store & We both work side jobs for extra $ we are trying to get by just like everyone else I would live with such guilt if I lost him because I cannot afford to pay to get him the proper treatment. A life cut too short

Brandy

Brandy is a 6 Year Old American Pit Bull Terrier in San Bernardino , CA, Who Needs $2,000 for Surgical Removal of the Uterus and Ovaries.

San Bernardino, CA

This is Brandy. She is my emotional support dog. She is the last of my two beloved momma and poppa dogs(Gordo and Ruby, seen in pictures with her). We were evicted from our home last summer. My two boys, her brothers, were beautiful and very love, were taken by the pound. And my beautiful momma, Ruby died in my car.We were devastated. Brandy became my emotional support thru my severe depression. Brandy got sick. She didn't eat, but drinks lots of water and had become bloated. She began bleeding a lot from her vagina. I had no money, but luckily a good friend lent me the money to take to Veterinary Emergency Center of Redlands. And the Vet told me she has pyometra which is life-threatening. Her uterus is full of infected fluid and needs immediate surgical removal of the uterus and ovaries. There were 4 in Ruby's litter. Two boys and two girls. They were so cute and we ended up keeping them all. You can imagine 6 put bulls. But they were raised well and loved as they were our own children. It was challenging, exciting, fun with many enjoyable memories. Didn't raise them to fight, but grow together as a pack. As family, and they were our children. Momma, poppa, and the babies. We had a nice house around the corner from my mom. It was our home for 14 yrs. It was sold and for a short time, after a long exhausting fight to keep our home, we became homeless thru the hot summer of 2025. My boys were put to sleep before I could rescued. And my Ruby died

Pickles Was Rescued With a Broken Jaw and Two Tiny Babies

Metairie, LA • A Tail in Need Animal Rescue

Pickles is a mama cat who was given a second chance at the exact moment she needed one most. This sweet girl was recently found at a local shelter alongside her two newborn kittens, Parker and Posey. While caring for her tiny babies, Pickles was also carrying a painful injury—a broken jaw that appears to have occurred sometime before she was rescued. The exact cause of her injury is unknown, but what is certain is that Pickles needed help. When A Tail In Need Animal Rescue learned about Pickles and her kittens, they immediately stepped in and tagged them for rescue placement, ensuring this little family would not be overlooked. Now safely in rescue care, Pickles is beginning the next chapter of her journey. Veterinary teams are reviewing her condition to determine whether her jaw can be repaired and what treatment will give her the best chance at healing. Despite everything she has endured, Pickles has continued to care for her kittens and show the strength and love of a devoted mother. Parker and Posey are counting on her, and A Tail In Need Animal Rescue is committed to giving this family the care and support they need. Donations will help cover Pickles’ veterinary evaluation, diagnostic testing, treatment for her jaw injury, and any medical care needed to help her recover while continuing to care for her kittens. Pickles was saved just in time. With your support, she can finally receive the care she deserves and give her babies the safe, healthy start they were meant to have. Please help A Tail In Need Animal Rescue give Pickles and her kittens the second chance they deserve.

Lily Lost Her Tail to Cancer. Help Her Recover

WINTER GARDEN, FL • Andrew's Paws for Hope, Inc.

Lily is a tiny tuxedo cat who has spent her entire life believing in people. Three years ago she was dumped at Ocoee Taco, confused and heartbroken, begging every passerby for food and for someone to notice her. She wasn’t loud. She wasn’t demanding. She simply looked up at strangers with the soft hope of a cat who once knew the comfort of a home and couldn’t understand why it was gone. Patrons fed her when they could, but it was clear she was fading. She had no shelter, no protection, and no one to keep her safe. One kind person finally made a call to Andrew’s Paws for Hope. That call saved her life. When Lily arrived at the sanctuary that night, she walked straight to the bed that had been prepared for her. She curled up, closed her eyes, and fell asleep almost instantly. It was the sleep of a cat who had been waiting far too long to feel safe again. From that night on, she chose her place in the world. She sleeps by my head every night. She is gentle, affectionate, and grateful for every moment of love she receives. Now at ten years old, Lily is facing a frightening medical battle. A painful mass on her tail was diagnosed as a sarcoma, and her entire tail had to be removed. At the same time, a large mass appeared along her lumbar spine. It was removed and, thankfully, showed no signs of cancer. She is healing, but she must be closely monitored. Her medical bills have already reached nearly two thousand dollars. For our small 501(c)(3) sanctuary, this amount is overwhelming. We care for many forgotten cats who have nowhere else to go, and every dollar is stretched to its limit. Lily is one of the sweetest souls we have ever rescued, and she deserves every chance to continue her life in comfort and safety. She spent months begging strangers for help. Today she is asking again, but this time she has people who will fight for her. We just need help to keep her safe.

Time Is Running Out for Twyla's Cleft Palate Repair

Havana, FL • It’s Meow or Never for Ferals, Inc.

Twyla has already fought harder than any kitten ever should. Now she needs your help one more time. When Twyla was born at the rescue after her pregnant mother was saved, she was much smaller than her siblings. She struggled to nurse, lost weight, and her future was uncertain. The rescue quickly discovered why: she was born with a cleft palate, an opening in the roof of her mouth that made it impossible for her to nurse normally. Every attempt to eat or drink put her at risk because food and liquid could pass into her respiratory system instead of her stomach. From the moment they realized something was wrong, the dedicated volunteers at It's Meow or Never for Ferals refused to give up on her. Skilled caregivers worked together around the clock, tube feeding Twyla every two to three hours, day and night, to keep her alive. Their incredible dedication gave this tiny kitten the chance she deserved. Slowly, Twyla grew stronger. She tripled her weight, filled the rescue with tiny purrs, and showed everyone just how spirited she was. Even with a cleft palate, she never stopped trying to eat and drink like every other kitten. She embraced life with determination, spending her days playing with her siblings, snuggling with her mom, and charming everyone she met. At just the right age, Twyla underwent the specialized cleft palate repair surgery she desperately needed. It was a huge milestone, and for the first time in her life, she got to enjoy soft, wet food. It was something most cats take for granted, but for Twyla, it was a dream come true. Sadly, that victory didn't last. At her four week follow up appointment, after she began sneezing frequently and pawing at her face, specialists confirmed the heartbreaking news: part of the repair had reopened. Fortunately, Twyla isn't in pain, and there is no damaged or dying tissue. Her surgeon explained that this is a known complication of cleft palate repairs, and revision surgery is often necessary to achieve a lasting repair. Now Twyla urgently needs a second surgery. Because there is only a limited window while she is still young enough for successful cleft palate repair, time is incredibly important. Until the revision surgery is completed, she has had to go back to eating carefully prepared kibble instead of the wet food she had finally been able to enjoy. Every day she has to wait is another day without the normal life she's worked so hard for. Twyla has overcome every obstacle placed in front of her thanks to the unwavering commitment of It's Meow or Never for Ferals. Now she needs our help to reach the finish line. Please consider making a donation today to help cover the cost of Twyla's revision surgery. Every gift, no matter the size, brings her one step closer to finally living the healthy, comfortable life she's fought so hard to achieve.
