About

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of cats through advocacy, education, and compassionate care. Our mission is to promote feline welfare by addressing the root causes of overpopulation, neglect, and misunderstanding of cats in our communities. We focus on four key areas: Advocacy: We work to raise awareness about the importance of humane treatment and responsible cat ownership. Through community outreach and policy initiatives, we advocate for stronger protections and support for cats at the local and regional levels. Education: We provide accessible resources and programs to help the public better understand cat behavior, health, and care. Our goal is to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge to make informed, compassionate decisions about cats. Spay/Neuter & TNR: We are committed to reducing feline overpopulation through responsible spay/neuter practices. All cats in our adoption program are spayed or neutered before placement. In addition, we support community cat populations through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), a humane and effective method of managing feral and free-roaming cats. By preventing unwanted litters and stabilizing colony numbers, we improve the quality of life for both cats and communities. Adoption: We rescue and rehome cats into loving, permanent homes. Every cat in our care receives the medical attention and socialization they need to thrive. Our thorough adoption process ensures a strong match between adopter and feline companion. Together with our supporters, we envision a world where every cat is valued, protected, and given the chance to live a healthy, happy life.

A Desperate Call Saved Shila—Now She Needs You

Crown City, OH • Appalachian Feline Foster Network

Sometimes, all it takes is one phone call to change a life. While at her full-time job, the founder of Appalachian Feline Foster Network received an urgent call from a concerned property owner. They had discovered a tiny kitten lying on the ground, barely responsive and fighting to survive. They offered her a little water, which seemed to perk her up just enough, but it was clear she needed emergency veterinary care immediately. Without hesitation, our founder left work, rushed to pick up the kitten, and drove straight to the veterinarian. Now named Shila, this precious baby weighs only one pound. At just a few weeks old, she is incredibly fragile and has already endured more than any kitten should. At the veterinary clinic, Shila received a comprehensive examination to determine why she was so weak. She underwent fecal and parvovirus testing to rule out life-threatening illnesses, received deworming medication to treat intestinal parasites, and was started on antibiotics to combat infection. She was also given parasite prevention, specialized critical care nutrition to help her regain strength, and supportive care to stabilize her fragile condition. Every one of these treatments gives Shila a better chance at growing into the healthy, playful kitten she was always meant to be. Shila's medical bill is $233, and Appalachian Feline Foster Network is asking for your help. As a foster-based rescue, every unexpected emergency stretches our limited resources, but we never want finances to determine whether a kitten receives lifesaving care. Today, Shila is safe. She has a warm place to rest, a full belly, and people who are committed to giving her every chance to recover. Now she needs compassionate animal lovers like you to stand beside her. No donation is too small. Together, we can turn the day Shila was found barely clinging to life into the first chapter of a beautiful new beginning. Please help us give this tiny survivor the future she deserves. 7/14/26 Update We are thrilled to share some wonderful news about little Shila! Thanks to the prompt medical care she received and the incredible generosity of our supporters, Shila is responding very well to her medications. This tiny kitten, who was found barely responsive and fighting for her life, has made remarkable progress. She is eating, gaining strength, and continuing to improve each day under the loving care of her foster family. While she still has some healing to do, her future is looking much brighter. If she continues on this positive path, we hope she will make a full recovery and soon be ready to begin the search for the forever home she deserves. We are so grateful to everyone who donated, shared her story, and kept Shila in your thoughts. Your compassion made it possible for her to receive lifesaving veterinary care when she needed it most. Because of you, what could have been a heartbreaking ending is becoming a beautiful new beginning. From all of us at Appalachian Feline Foster Network, thank you for giving Shila a second chance. We can't wait to share the happy day when this resilient little survivor finds her forever family.
