A Snake Bite Led to an Emergency Vet Visit for Willa

Willa has already overcome more than most dogs ever should. After being rescued from the brutal Texas heat, Willa fought through a heartbreaking battle with a mast cell tumor. When chemotherapy wasn't enough, she underwent surgery to remove the cancer, followed by a skin graft and weeks of intensive wound care. Thanks to the incredible support of compassionate donors, Willa healed beautifully and finally began enjoying the life she had fought so hard for. But just when it seemed she could finally catch a break, another unexpected emergency struck. Willa was recently bitten by a snake and quickly developed a severe allergic reaction that caused significant swelling to her face. She was rushed to the veterinarian, where she received emergency treatment, including injections and medications to bring the reaction under control. Fortunately, no anti venom was required.. Thankfully, Willa is recovering well, but emergency veterinary visits are never something a rescue can plan for. A dedicated volunteer immediately stepped in and covered the cost of Willa's treatment to make sure she received the care she needed without delay. Now we're asking for your help to reimburse those expenses so Best Friends Furever can continue helping animals when unexpected emergencies arise. Despite everything she's endured, Willa remains exactly who she's always been—a gentle, quiet, affectionate girl who still trusts people and greets everyone with kindness. Cancer Has Returned—Willa Needs Surgery Now

On a scorching July day in Houston, Texas, Willa was found nearly lifeless, alone on the streets with no one to care for her. Somehow, she held on. And despite everything she’s endured, Willa is incredibly sweet, gentle, and easygoing—a dog who still believes in people, even after being so badly let down. Under the care of Best Friends Furever, Willa was found to have a tumor on her foot. What started as a small mass continued to grow and was diagnosed as a mast cell tumor, a dangerous and aggressive form of cancer. Veterinarians tried to save her leg by treating the tumor with a chemotherapy injection called Stelfonta, but heartbreakingly, the cancer has returned. Now, Willa’s veterinarians agree: amputation is her best—and only—chance to save her life. Without surgery, the cancer will continue to spread. With it, Willa has a real chance at recovery, comfort, and a future where she can finally know what it’s like to be safe and loved. Willa didn’t give up when she was left to die in the Texas heat. Because of the extent of what needed to be removed, some bone was left exposed, so her doctor performed a skin graft to help protect the area and promote healing. The good news is that the tissue underneath is healing well. The grafted area (which currently appears gray) is also healing — just at a slower pace, which can be normal with procedures like this. Her veterinary team is continuing to monitor her closely and is encouraged by her progress. Through it all, Willa has remained the same gentle, resilient girl who refuses to give up. She’s resting comfortably and taking each day one step at a time. Willa still needs continued care as she heals. Every donation helps cover follow-up visits, bandage changes, medications, and ongoing treatment to ensure she recovers safely. She underwent a skin graft, spent weeks receiving specialized care, and endured countless bandage changes, medications, and veterinary visits. Through it all, Willa remained the sweet, gentle, and loving dog who captured so many hearts. Today, we are thrilled to share that Willa's foot has healed beautifully, she is out of the hospital, and she is back to enjoying life. What once seemed like an uncertain future has been transformed into one filled with comfort, hope, and new possibilities. Sweet Andi’s Journey: A Lap Cat Worth Saving

Andi’s life before rescue was filled with hardship. She was found wandering an apartment complex, alone and searching for food and a safe place to be. No one knows how long she had been struggling to survive, but one thing was clear, this sweet girl had been abandoned. Andi’s gentle nature made it impossible to turn her away, and thankfully, Best Friends Furever stepped in to help. When Andi came into Best Friends Furever's care, it was clear she was in pain. Her eye was badly injured and needed to be removed. She also had severe dental disease that required immediate attention. Thanks to Glade Valley Veterinary Clinic, Andi underwent surgery and is finally on the road to recovery. Through it all, Andi has remained the most loving and easy-going cat. She’s a lap cat through and through—calm, cuddly, and full of quiet joy. She adores affection, gets along beautifully with other cats, and is wonderful with kids. Now that her pain is behind her, her personality is shining brighter than ever. But Andi’s care came with steep medical bills.
