Mindy
Mindy is a 1 year old Mix-Breed in Gaylordsville, CT, who needs $1,999 for surgery.
Gaylordsville, CT • Despurate House Cats
Mindy is a gentle ~9-year-old lady who was trapped in Bridgeport alongside another adult cat believed to be her daughter. From the moment she arrived, it was clear she wasn’t feral—just a cat who had gone far too long without the kindness and comfort every animal deserves. When she first entered Despurate House Cats rescue, Mindy was shy, uncertain, and overwhelmed. But even behind the sweetness, her sweetness showed through. At the end of December, Mindy will undergo a full dental extraction due to severe stomatitis, gum recession, and painful tooth resorption. This surgery is essential. She has been living with chronic, debilitating oral pain, and this procedure will give her something she has not had in years: comfort and relief. Mindy is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and FeLV/FIV negative. She will finally be ready for adoption in January after her surgery and given a chance at the soft, safe indoor life she has waited nearly a decade to experience. If Mindy’s story touches your heart, please consider donating. Your support directly covers her dental surgery, medications, and recovery care—and ensures that older cats like Mindy, who have suffered quietly for far too long, finally receive the compassion they deserve. 12/28/25 Update: Mindy Update 💛 Dental Surgery Complete Last Monday, Mindy underwent a full-mouth dental extraction performed by Dr. Trish — and every single tooth was removed. In the \_before\_ photo, you can clearly see just how inflamed, red, and irritated her gums were due to severe stomatitis. It’s heartbreaking to look at, but it also shows just how badly this surgery was needed. Recovery took a few days, but Mindy is steadily bouncing back. She’s currently on a watered-down pâté diet while her mouth heals, her wounds close, and her sutures dissolve. Each day, she’s acting more and more like herself — brighter, more comfortable, and clearly relieved. We can’t wait to see her full potential once she’s feeling 100%. This surgery was the final medical step in Mindy’s journey to adoption, and now all that’s left is finding the loving family she deserves. While the total cost came in slightly under the original estimate, the bill was still $1,400, and we’re continuing to work toward covering it. If you’re able to donate or share, it truly makes a difference for cats like Mindy. 4/18/26 Update Thank you to everyone who supported Mindy on her healing journey! She is doing well and are thrilled that she can now live out her life as a happy and healthy adult cat. Thank you for your continued support.

Mommas
Mommas, a Beloved Community Cat, Needs Your Help
Gaylordsville, CT • Despurate House Cats
Meet Mommas, a sleek black cat, who has been a community cat in Bridgeport for at least 6 years. Some people in the community had her spayed when she was younger, and the neighbors all take turns feeding and caring for her. But in the past couple of months, one neighbor found that she was more sluggish and had not only an abscess on her back but also a mass on her belly. So they contacted Despurate House Cats for help but Mommas was very trap savvy and hard to catch at first, and then went missing for 3 weeks and showed up again, but this time more sluggish, which made it easier for the rescue to catch her. She is currently in the care of Despurate House Cats and gets along with the other kitties and staff great but is also a bit scared. They gave her an exam, and it turns out she will need surgery to remove the mass on her stomach, which is going to cost the rescue about $1,275, along with a biopsy. Mommas will need to have this removed as soon as possible as the vet thinks it is likely cancer and does not want it to spread. On top of this, she came up faintly positive for FeLV and FIV on an ELISA test so they are running a confirmation test, which runs a little more than $300. The bills are quickly stacking up for Mommas, but Despurate House Cats is determined to provide her with the best care possible, so she can get back to enjoying the outdoors and soaking up love from the community. Thank you for your support!

Figgy
Saved From Abandonment: Help Figgy Heal
Gaylordsville, CT • Despurate House Cats
Figgy is a stunning 4-year-old tortie with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She was abandoned outside in Waterbury and rescued after suffering a painful paw injury. At first, Despurate House Cats Rescue believed her injury was from frostbite, but her condition was later diagnosed as a combination of frostbite and a skin disease known as pillow foot. Thanks to her amazing foster mom who stuck by her through every setback, Figgy received emergency care that included surgical debridement, laser therapy, and daily dressing changes. She is now doing incredibly well and is on a low-dose steroid. They’re hopeful she will be completely off medication soon. She is FIV/FeLV negative (double tested) and will be spayed and vaccinated as soon as she’s medically cleared. Figgy is playful, curious, and loves watching the world go by from the window. She’s also completely litter-trained and enjoys affection on her own terms. While she currently lives with other cats, she has shown some behavioral shifts, which may be related to the medication or lingering discomfort. For now, she’s being kept separated, and they’ll be temperament testing her once she’s fully healed. Despurate House Cats is working hard to make sure Figgy gets the love and medical attention she needs to fully heal; however, their resources are being stretched thin with the volume of animals they are currently caring for. Please consider supporting this small rescue. Every dollar counts. Update 6/3/25 Figgy's healing journey is going so well that she is now up for adoption! But Despurate House Cats is still paying off her stack of vet bills. They are so grateful for every dollar that has been contributed to her health and ability to find her forever home. Thank you for your continued support. Update 6/23/25 Figgy is all but healed and is still waiting for her forever, hopefully with her best bud, Saint! Thank you to everyone who is supporting her on her healing journey. She wouldn't be where she is without all of your support!

Saint
Will you help give Saint a second chance?
Gaylordsville, CT • Despurate House Cats
Meet Saint--a young male cat, who's estimated to be between 1 and 3 years old. He came into the care of Despurate House Cats Rescue about 2 months ago after being found outdoors. He was unneutered and in need of medical attention. While it's unclear how long he was living outside, it's evident that he was not receiving the care he needed prior to rescue. After he had his internal medicine consult, the vet discovered a polyp in his airway, making it an extremely delicate location. Due to a high chance of recurrence, he now needs a CT scan to determine the safest and most effective way to remove it. There’s a real possibility that part of his airway may need to be resected, or even that the mass may be inoperable, requiring radiation for complete removal. Saint has since entered foster care and has truly blossomed. He’s affectionate, social, and adjusting beautifully to indoor life. He loves lounging in sunny spots, playing with toys, and cuddling up to his foster family. It's clear that he is grateful to be safe and loved. What’s most remarkable about Saint is how quickly he bonded with his foster family. It was like he was waiting to be saved. Despurate House Cats is a small, passionate 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue, supported 100% by donations from animal lovers like you. Every cat they take in is promised that they’ll never have to struggle alone again; however, the expense Saint has racked up for the rescue has really stretched their funding thing. But of course, he is worth it. Now, they really need your help to cover the cost of his medical care. His exams, biopsies, leukemia virus/FIV test, injections, antibiotics, surgery supplies, and other vet bills have amounted to approximately $750. Can you please help this rescue give Saint the life he deserves? Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you for your generosity!
