Smokey

Smokey is a 6 month old Mix-Breed in Portage, IN, who needs $2,000 for Nasal passage C/T scan, scope, and surgery.

Portage, IN • Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue

Smokey, a 6-month-old kitten, was brought to Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue this summer with his 4 siblings. Smokey struggles to breathe. When he's sleeping he snores and snorts, and sometimes seems like he will stop breathing. His throat and chest cave in with each breath. His foster family has to keep him propped up when he sleeps and provide a humidifier and nebulizer. Smokey needs to have a C/T scan, nasal scope, and surgery in his nasal passage. Local vets do not have the specialized and tiny equipment needed for such a small kitten, and have referred him to the Purdue Small Animal Hospital. Smokey is scheduled to see a specialist Dec 11. The the cost will be $3,000 -$4,000 for the tests and surgery. Smokey is a sweet little guy who loves to be held, and loves to be with the other cats in the foster family’s home. His foster family wants very much to adopt him. Our rescue is trying to get him healthy so that he can live a happy life in his forever home. Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue struggles to house, feed, and provide medical care for all of our cats and kittens. This extra cost for tests and surgery is not in our budget. Yet Smokey desperately needs this care to survive. 4/25/26 Update: Smokey Update - Adopted and Living a Good Life Smokey has recovered from his surgery and is doing well. He just snores a bit when he's sleeping, but otherwise his nasal passages are clear and he can breathe easily. Smokey's foster family, who took such good care of him, have adopted him. Smokey now has a loving forever home, and a healthy future to look forward to. Thank you to all who donated toward the cost of his surgery.

Kittens

Kittens is a 5 month old Mix-Breed in Portage, IN, who needs $2,000 for Medical Care for Newborn Kittens.

Portage, IN • Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue

In the last month we have rescued 3 momma cats and 15 kittens. We have been feeding and caring these young families. One litter was so young they had to be had to be hand fed, every 2 hours, around the clock. We have taken them to the vet for check ups and medications, when needed. They are gaining weight. The moms are doing well All of the babies we have rescued needed to be wormed, get flea treatments, and start vaccinations. Now we are nearing the time when they are old enough to be spayed/neutered. We need to pay down our balance at Hero Pet Animal Hospital (Westville, IN) before they will provide any more surgeries. These kittens are as sweet as can be - healthy and frisky. They need vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery before we can put them up for adoption. The momma cats were all terrified when they came to us, but they are feeling more relaxed and welcoming affection from our volunteers. These mommas need to be spayed as well. We have a $3,000 balance with Hero Pet Ani al Hospital, and we need to pay that bill before they will provide additional service. We need to raise money for spay/neuter surgeries

Stevie

Stevie is a one-month-old Domestic Shorthair kitten in Portage, IN, who needs $1,200 for urgent care.

Portage, IN • Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue

Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue received an urgent phone call, a plea for help they could not ignore! The situation was dire. Someone left a Rubbermaid tote with 12 kittens on the property of an older couple. They called different animal welfare groups desperately trying to get the babies help, but every organization said, "No." Until they called Hagrid's Hope, a beacon in the face of adversity, who said, "Yes!" When the rescue got the kittens, they were shocked to see little Stevie and rushed her to an animal hospital. "She had severe eye infections and is on antibiotics," Jennifer G., with the rescue, tells Waggle. "Seven veterinarians have seen her and agree she is healthy in every other way but needs eye surgery." Now Hagrid's Hope needs your help. Your support could be the difference in giving Stevie a fighting chance. "Stevie was born with this eye condition," Jennifer says. "The veterinarians say they cannot in good conscience recommend euthanasia. She can live a full and happy life once the surgery is completed." The rescue is so impressed with Stevie's sweet disposition. "Stevie is a sweetheart," Jennifer says. "She loves to cuddle and play with her siblings. She gobbles her food and is full of life and energy. She likes it when our volunteer sings to her and holds her in her arms." Hagrid's Hope Cat Rescue has been overwhelmed with calls to rescue kittens and momma cats this year. The group is struggling to house, feed, and care for all of the kittens and pay medical costs. Please give to this campaign to help this hard-working rescue give Stevie a shot at a better future. They are deeply grateful for your support; every contribution, regardless of size, makes a significant impact.
