Born With a Broken Heart, Xena Needs Surgery to Survive

Royal Palm Beach, FL • My Why Rescue

Xena came to us as an owner surrender—not because she wasn’t loved, but because her family simply couldn’t afford the life-saving care she needs. And now, she’s depending on us. At just 6.5 months old and only 4 pounds, Xena is full of life, love, and puppy energy. You would never guess anything is wrong… but inside, her little heart is working overtime. Xena has been diagnosed with PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus)—a serious congenital heart defect. This means that a blood vessel near her heart that is supposed to close after birth… didn’t. Because of this, her heart is forced to work much harder than it should, and over time, it can lead to heart failure if left untreated. The good news? This condition is treatable with surgery. The heartbreaking part? Her surgery is estimated at $9,000. Without it, Xena’s future is uncertain. With it, she can live a long, happy, completely normal life. We are doing everything we can—but we simply do not have the funds to cover this on our own. We are urgently trying to raise the money to get her into surgery as soon as possible before her condition worsens. Please, if you can donate—even a small amount—it truly makes a difference. If you can’t donate, sharing this campaign could be what saves her life. Xena deserves a chance. She deserves to grow up, to play, to love, to live the life every puppy should have. 5/26/26 Update Xena recently went in for her post-op checkup after undergoing lifesaving surgery for her PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus), and we are overjoyed to share that her heart murmur is GONE. For a puppy who once faced an uncertain future because of a serious congenital heart defect, this is an incredible milestone. Thanks to her surgery, Xena’s heart is no longer working overtime the way it once was, and she is already showing everyone just how strong and resilient she truly is. She still has a couple more important follow-up appointments ahead of her, including another echocardiogram with the cardiologist as well as a recheck with her surgeon. These visits will help determine what her long-term outlook will be and ensure that everything has healed properly. Right now, everyone is hopeful that the valve has fully closed and that Xena is on her way to living the long, happy, normal life she deserves. And true to form, Xena is already back to being her spunky little diva self. She currently has no restrictions and was even finally able to enjoy a much-needed bath after everything she has been through. As she continues through her recovery and follow-up care, donations are still deeply appreciated to help cover her ongoing cardiology appointments, imaging, and surgical follow-up expenses. Every bit of support continues to make a difference for this tiny fighter. 6/14/26 Update We are thrilled to announce that Xena has found her forever home! She has officially been adopted and is settling beautifully into her new life. The future that once seemed uncertain is now filled with love, comfort, playtime, and all the happiness every puppy deserves. Watching Xena go from a fragile puppy facing a life-threatening condition to a healthy, beloved family member has been nothing short of amazing. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, shared her story, and cheered her on throughout her journey. Your generosity helped make her surgery and recovery possible and gave her the chance to live the long, happy life she was meant to have. While Xena's story has the happy ending we all hoped for, her veterinary expenses did not end with surgery. Her cardiology evaluations, echocardiograms, surgical follow-up appointments, and ongoing medical care have left the rescue with significant outstanding veterinary costs. If you are able, please consider making a donation to help cover the remainder of Xena's medical expenses. Every contribution allows us to continue saying "yes" to animals like Xena when they need us most. 7/15/26 Update When Xena first came into our care, she was just a tiny 6.5-month-old puppy weighing only four pounds, facing a life-threatening congenital heart defect. Her family loved her deeply but simply couldn't afford the specialized surgery she needed to save her life. Today, we are overjoyed to share that Xena's story has the happy ending we all hoped for. After undergoing her lifesaving PDA surgery and making an incredible recovery, Xena has officially found her forever home in Tampa. She has settled in beautifully with her new family, who have given her a new name—Adriene—where she now has her very own Rocky to share life with. The once-fragile puppy who faced an uncertain future is now living exactly the life every dog deserves: surrounded by love, enjoying adventures, and making up for lost time as a cherished member of her family. While Adriene's surgery was a tremendous success, her journey isn't quite over. She will continue to see her veterinary cardiologist every six months for routine checkups to ensure her heart remains healthy. These follow-up visits are simply part of making sure she continues to thrive for many years to come. We cannot thank our supporters enough for making this incredible outcome possible. Every donation, every share, and every word of encouragement helped give this sweet little girl the second chance she deserved. Because of your compassion, a puppy who once faced heart failure now has a bright future filled with love, happiness, and endless tail wags. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in Xena—now Adriene. Your generosity didn't just save her life. It gave her a lifetime of love.

Willow Was Used for Breeding. Now She’s Fighting for Her Life

Royal Palm Beach, FL • My Why Rescue

Willow’s life until now has been one of exploitation and neglect. This sweet, gentle girl was used repeatedly for breeding — her body pushed beyond what it should have endured. When she was no longer profitable, she was left behind… suffering from painful tumors caused by the very life she was forced to live. When Willow finally came into rescue, the reality of her condition became clear. She was diagnosed with transmissible venereal tumors (TVT) — a painful but treatable and highly curable cancer that dogs often develop when they are used for uncontrolled breeding. Despite everything she has been through, Willow has remained incredibly gentle. Even while she was in pain, she endured it quietly, her body trying to fight a disease she never should have had to face. But there is hope for Willow. With proper treatment, she has a 90% chance of survival and the opportunity to live the healthy, happy life she has always deserved. Her veterinary team has already created a treatment plan, and it’s one with an excellent success rate: ✔️ Weekly chemotherapy (Vincristine) ✔️ 4–6 treatments total ✔️ Tumors expected to begin shrinking within weeks ✔️ Full recovery possible with proper care Right now, Willow is hospitalized and receiving medication and chemotherapy. Because TVT is contagious between dogs, she must remain isolated while she receives treatment. She is being carefully monitored by the veterinary team while her body begins the fight to heal. The good news is that she has already started responding to treatment, and we are incredibly hopeful. But her recovery will depend on how her body continues to respond in the coming weeks and whether additional care will be needed. We couldn’t wait. She needed help now. We named her Willow because it represents exactly who she is — healing, gentle, and quietly strong. Despite everything she has endured, she continues to show resilience and grace Rescue often feels like a never-ending cycle. There is always another dog in need, another emergency, another life depending on someone to step in. Right now, Willow is that life. Your donation will help cover: 🐾 Life-saving chemotherapy treatments 🐾 Hospitalization and medical monitoring 🐾 Medications to manage pain and support recovery 🐾 The veterinary care she needs to fully heal Every contribution — no matter the size — helps give Willow the chance to recover from the life she was forced to live and begin the one she deserves. If you’re unable to donate, sharing Willow’s story can help her reach the people who can. She didn’t deserve the life she was given. But together, we can give Willow the life she deserves now. 4/27/26 Update Willow is showing us exactly why her name fits her so perfectly — quiet strength, resilience, and healing. After beginning her chemotherapy treatments, Willow’s body had a difficult adjustment period. The medications initially made her very sick, leaving her weak and uncomfortable as her system worked to tolerate the life-saving care she desperately needs. It was heartbreaking to watch this sweet girl endure yet another hurdle after everything she has already survived. But thankfully, Willow is now doing much better. Her veterinary team is pleased with how she is responding, and she is healing nicely as treatment continues. The side effects that were making her feel so ill have begun to subside, and Willow is starting to regain some of her strength. Most importantly, she is continuing the fight against the painful transmissible venereal tumors that have stolen so much of her comfort. This is the turning point we had all been hoping for — but Willow is not finished yet. She still needs continued chemotherapy, medical monitoring, supportive medications, and follow-up veterinary care to ensure her body keeps responding the way it should. These next treatments are critical to fully eliminating the cancer and giving Willow the healthy future she deserves. We are so grateful to everyone who has stood beside Willow so far, but we still urgently need donations to carry her through the remainder of her treatment plan. Please consider making a gift today to help cover Willow’s ongoing life-saving care. 7/16/26 Update Thanks to your compassion and generosity, Willow has officially completed her chemotherapy treatment, and we are thrilled to report that she is doing very well. When Willow first came into rescue, she carried the physical scars of a lifetime of neglect and exploitation. After being used repeatedly for breeding, she was left to suffer with painful transmissible venereal tumors (TVT). Despite everything she had endured, Willow never lost her gentle spirit. She faced every treatment with quiet strength and reminded us every day why we chose her name. There were moments during her recovery that were difficult. The chemotherapy initially made her very sick, but Willow never stopped fighting. With the support of her dedicated veterinary team and the kindness of donors like you, she persevered through every hurdle. Today, Willow has completed her treatment and is thriving. She is feeling well, enjoying life, and finally getting the chance to experience the love, comfort, and security that she was denied for so long. Your donations made this possible. Because of your support, Willow received the lifesaving chemotherapy, medical care, medications, and monitoring she needed to overcome this highly treatable cancer. You gave her the opportunity to leave her painful past behind and begin a bright new chapter. From all of us—and especially from Willow—thank you for believing that every dog deserves a second chance. Your generosity transformed her story from one of suffering into one of healing, hope, and a future full of possibilities.

Help Winston Heal: A 5-Month-Old Corgi Fighting to Walk Again

Royal Palm Beach, FL • My Why Rescue

Meet Winston, a 5-month-old Corgi puppy whose life nearly ended before it truly began. Winston arrived at My Why Rescue as an emergency after his owner requested euthanasia without seeking treatment or even asking about a prognosis. We were told that one minute Winston seemed fine—and the next he suddenly couldn’t move his back legs. What veterinarians discovered next was devastating. Initial concerns included possible botulism, but diagnostic testing quickly revealed the real cause: severe trauma. Winston was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia, meaning a tear in the muscle separating the chest and abdomen that can prevent normal breathing and organ function. Even more heartbreaking, X-rays confirmed bilateral fractures in both of his hind legs. This wasn’t illness. This was trauma. We don’t know exactly what Winston endured—whether he was kicked, beaten, or thrown—but it’s clear his tiny body went through something unimaginable. Despite that, Winston has shown incredible resilience and a will to live. Instead of giving up on him, we chose to fight for him. Winston underwent lifesaving surgery to repair his diaphragmatic hernia, followed by another surgery to repair the fractures in his hind legs. Thanks to the dedicated veterinary team and quick action, Winston survived. Winston has officially been discharged from the hospital and is resting safely with a loving foster family. He still isn’t putting much weight on his back legs yet—which is expected after everything his body has been through. He remains bruised, swollen, and sore, but he is finally somewhere quiet where he can begin to heal. The good news is that Winston is already making progress. His veterinarian has cleared him to begin water therapy and physical therapy, which will help him rebuild strength in his injured legs. His first rehabilitation consultation is already scheduled, and he will return to the specialist in two weeks for follow-up X-rays to check how his fractures are healing. This rescue happened in a matter of moments. There was no time to fundraise first—only time to act. If we hadn’t stepped in, Winston would have been euthanized that day. Because we said yes, this sweet puppy now has a chance at life. But lifesaving care comes with a cost. Winston’s medical treatment—including emergency diagnostics, multiple surgeries, hospitalization, and ongoing rehabilitation—has brought his total veterinary bill to $10,423.90 and his journey is not over yet. Now we need your help to finish what we started. Your donation will help cover: 🐾 Emergency and surgical care 🐾 Hospitalization and medications 🐾 Follow-up veterinary visits and X-rays 🐾 Physical therapy and water rehabilitation to help Winston walk again Every donation—even $10—brings Winston one step closer to a full recovery. If you’re unable to donate, sharing Winston’s story can help him reach the people who can. Winston has already survived the worst moment of his life. Now, together, we can help him learn to run, play, and be the happy puppy he was always meant to be 3/28/26 Update Winston continues to amaze us with his resilience and sweet spirit. This brave little 5-month-old has officially started week two of his rehabilitation, including both water therapy and laser treatments to help him regain strength and mobility in his hind legs. We’re happy to report that Winston had a follow-up visit with his surgeon yesterday — and everything looks great. His surgical sites are healing well, and he has officially been cleared with no restrictions. This is a huge milestone in his recovery journey. While this is wonderful news, Winston still has an important road ahead. After everything his body endured, he needs time and consistent therapy to rebuild the muscles in his hind legs. Physical therapy, water rehabilitation, and continued strengthening exercises will be key to helping him walk, run, and play like the puppy he’s meant to be. Through it all, Winston continues to steal hearts everywhere he goes. His care team describes him as incredibly sweet, gentle, and full of love — despite everything he’s been through. He greets everyone with trust and affection, reminding us daily why we fought so hard for him. Winston is making excellent progress, but his rehabilitation is ongoing — and so are the medical costs. His therapy sessions, follow-up care, and continued monitoring are essential to helping him regain full mobility. Please consider making a donation today to help cover Winston’s ongoing rehabilitation. Every contribution supports his water therapy, laser treatments, and continued veterinary care as he works to rebuild strength in his hind legs. If you’re unable to donate, sharing his story also makes a meaningful difference. 4/7/26 Update Winston has officially been adopted and we truly could not have dreamed of a more perfect match for this incredible little survivor. After everything he endured — the trauma, multiple surgeries, and weeks of rehabilitation — seeing Winston step into a loving forever home is the moment we have all been working toward. While Winston continues his therapy in Delray Beach, his future is already so bright. Soon, this resilient puppy will be jet-setting and spending his summer in East Hampton, NY — a life filled with love, adventure, and comfort that once felt impossible for him. Winston has been such a joy throughout his journey with us. Watching him heal, grow stronger, and show his sweet, gentle spirit every single day is something we will never forget. Despite the unimaginable trauma he experienced early in life, Winston never stopped trusting, never stopped loving, and never stopped fighting. He reminded everyone around him why giving animals like him a chance matters so much. While this is the happy ending we hoped for, Winston’s journey came with significant medical costs. His emergency diagnostics, lifesaving surgeries, hospitalization, and ongoing rehabilitation quickly added up to an extensive veterinary bill — and those expenses remain. We stepped in without hesitation to save his life, and now we need your help to cover the cost of the care that made his happy ending possible. Please consider making a donation today. Your support helps cover Winston’s outstanding veterinary bills and allows us to continue saying “yes” to the next dog who needs urgent, lifesaving care. Every contribution — big or small — truly makes a difference. Thank you for helping us keep our promise to Winston… and for helping us be there for the next one who needs us. 5/2/26 Update We are so happy to share that Winston is continuing to do wonderfully. After enduring lifesaving surgery for his diaphragmatic hernia, surgery to repair fractures in both hind legs, and weeks of rehabilitation, this brave little Corgi continues to make incredible progress. Winston is still attending water therapy and physical therapy to help rebuild muscle strength in his hind legs, and at his recent follow-up with the surgeon, he received the best news possible: Winston has been cleared with no restrictions. That means he is now free to run, play, and enjoy life like a normal puppy — something that once felt so uncertain when he first came into rescue. He is getting stronger every day, and with continued therapy, his future looks incredibly bright. Best of all, Winston is now safe in his loving forever home, surrounded by the care and happiness every puppy deserves. This amazing outcome would not have been possible without your support. From emergency care and multiple surgeries to ongoing rehabilitation, Winston’s journey was extensive — but because of you, he got his second chance. Thank you for helping Winston heal, grow stronger, and step into the beautiful life ahead of him.
