Bend, OR • People Saving Animals
Perla Negra, ike many dogs in Latin America, was born and survived on the streets of Guatemala. She was rescued and arrived at a shelter where she lives with other dogs. She is in a cage with her friends Fiore and Estrella. She was given the name Pearla Negra because she has beautiful black hair. The veterinary student who cares for the dogs at the shelter noticed that her ear was filled with blood, like a pillow. It was so heavy that it was drooping. According to the vet, this happens when they scratch their ear so hard that they break the blood vessels. This requires veterinary attention because it is painful and may burst. Perla Negra has a good relationship with her friends, Fiore and Estrella. She is a little shy with people, she hides and trembles, although when she gets to know them she lets them pet her. Perla Negra lives in a shelter in rural Guatemala. It has limited resources and is full. Therefore, it does not have enough resources to pay for this dog's medical treatment.

Princesa
Princesa is a 5-year-old Mix Breed in Bend, OR, who needs $654 for Hospitalization, Kidney & Liver Disease, and Wound Treatment.
Bend, OR • People Saving Animals
Princesa is a homeless dog. She was rescued from the streets of Guatemala months before. People who rescued her took her to a shelter, where she receives food and has a place to sleep. She also has the opportunity to share with other dogs. Princesa is a calm dog and shares with other dogs. When she goes for a walk, she walks slowly, so they let her walk at her own pace. She lives in a cage with 2 adult dogs. However, at the same time, she is a very nervous dog, she gets agitated easily, especially if she is in a kennel. Therefore, when she was hospitalized, the veterinarian had to give her a tranquilizer of natural origin; in addition, she tried to keep her out of the kennel part of the day, since she was calmer that way. Shelter staff observed that Princesa's tail had a wound and was swollen. A volunteer took her to Guatemala City, where the veterinarian examined her and indicated how the wound should be treated daily so that it heals. However, the weeks passed and the wound opened up even more. This was dangerous for her since she could get infected. Princesa is in a rural shelter that is at full capacity and with limited resources. There is no veterinarian at this shelter, so she had to be transferred to a veterinary hospital, where she could be treated appropriately.

Cecilia
Cecilia is a 10-year-old Mixed Breed Dog in Bend, OR, who needs $553 for Infection, Liver, and Scabies Treatments.
Bend, OR • People Saving Animals
Cecilia is a senior dog who has lived in a shelter in rural Guatemala for several years. She, like the other dogs and cats at the shelter, was rescued from the streets. The shelter is looking for a home for all the animals that live there, but unfortunately it did not find one for Cecilia. There she has a roof, water and food. Cecilia shared a cage with other dogs her age for several years; Little by little, these were dying, so she joined another pack made up of two younger dogs. She adapted very well and they respect her. Like every senior dog, she's calm. Since she has lived in a shelter, she is not used to being loving; however, let them stroke her head. She, like all rescued animals, is special because she is a survivor. She was born and lived in difficult conditions, on a street, without taking the care that is required. She probably had to forage for food since she was little and maybe someone mistreated her while doing it. She was fortunate enough to arrive at a shelter where she has lived for years. Shelter staff observed that Cecilia began to lose weight, despite the fact that she did eat. They dewormed her, but this did not help. Therefore, a volunteer took her to a veterinary clinic to be evaluated. The blood test revealed anemia and an infection. Liver damage was also observed. Skin examination showed scabies. Cecilia lives in an overcrowded shelter with limited resources. People Saving Animals supports the shelter by taking sick dogs and cats to the vet and then takes care of finding financial support to pay the bill.

Bend, OR • People Saving Animals
Trishia is a homeless dog. She was rescued from the streets of Guatemala when she was a puppy. Whoever rescued her took her to a shelter, where she receives food and has a place to sleep. She also has the opportunity to share with other dogs. She has 6 years now. She, like all the dogs at the shelter, hopes to find a family that will adopt her. She is a happy and playful dog. She likes to share with other dogs. Her best friend is Meghan, they have shared the same cage for many years. They are the same age and arrived at the shelter at the same time. They both really like to go for walks. Every day, a shelter employee takes them out for a walk and that is their favorite time of day. She, like other homeless dogs, had difficult experiences on the street. She probably got hungry and cold; maybe someone yelled at her. However, she does not lose her joie de vivre... and has not lost trust in people. When a person approaches its cage, it will jump up and bark to get your attention. For reasons unknown to shelter employees, at mealtime, several dogs started a fight. Trishia was bitten on the tail and it fractured. The vet determined that amputation was necessary. In addition, the tail area needed to be disinfected and treated with antibiotics. It was especially important to treat her with an antibiotic, so she wouldn't get infected. Trishia is in a shelter in rural Guatemala that is at full capacity and with limited resources. There is no veterinarian at this shelter, so she had to be transferred to a vet in Guatemala City, where she could be treated appropriately.
