💙 Where It Began: For nearly two weeks, a pregnant German Shepherd had been spotted wandering around a Home Depot parking lot. Our rescuers were able to approach her and get her safely loaded into our vehicle. Within minutes, Mama began to deliver. We transported her to our Medical Director quickly, helping her give birth to her first few puppies in the back seat. With our assistance, she gave birth over several hours to nine puppies. Mama and her pups were named as a tribute to the place where their journey began: 🧡 Maisie Dee 💛 Milwaukee, Kobalt, Bosch, Rigid, Ryobi, Hilti, Mikita, DeWalt, and Delta 💙 Where We Are Now: After weeks of being cared for by Mama Maisie, her pups were ready to find their forever homes. As the pups found their people, we started noticing something strange with one in particular, Delta. She wasn’t eating her food consistently and she wasn’t gaining weight. After a vet visit and bloodwork, it’s been determined that little Delta is severely anemic and she needs help. Her little body isn’t producing red blood cells correctly and she needs a blood transfusion (possibly multiple). We don’t know yet what Delta’s recovery will look like, but we are dedicated to getting her the help she needs. 💙 What We Need: To care for Delta, we have to cover her vet visit, bloodwork, and transfusion(s), as well as future visits and tests, medical supplies, and any other needs that come up. We are currently at VEG pleasant hill and are faced with a $5500 emergency vet bill just to stabilize her with transfusions, and that amount most likely will climb. As a non-profit we rely entirely on donations and adoption fees to pay for our rescues, and for the most part, we make ends meet. Cases like Delta’s, however, require more than what we have. But she’s a fighter- currently trying to bite at her IV and wagging her tail and giving kisses even though she is life threatening sick. She is fighting so we have to fight for her too. This sweet girl deserves to live a long, full life like her siblings and Mama Maisie, and we will do everything we can to make that happen for her.
