Iggy
Iggy’s Fight for Survival
Warwick, RI • Scruffy Paws Animal Rescue
Just another day at Scruffy Paws—they received a call about a mother cat and her kittens living deep inside a rock wall. The caller mentioned something heartbreaking: mama cat appeared to have a severe leg injury. That's how their journey with Iggy and her five kittens began. They teamed up with one of their best trapping partners and rushed to the scene. The urgency was clear—their field cameras had recorded coyotes lurking nearby, and poor Iggy, already limping on her badly injured leg, was being mounted by male cats. She didn’t stand a chance out there much longer. But they got them all. The kittens thankfully were in good health. They will need vaccinated, dewormed, spayed and neutered, and taming before they can be adopted into loving homes though. Mama Iggy, however, broke their hearts. When they sedated her to examine her injury, they discovered the leg was beyond saving. The break was so severe that the limb dangled uselessly, flopping with awful popping and snapping sounds when moved. We can only imagine the constant pain she endured while trying to care for her babies. Now this rescue faces a difficult reality: 5 kittens and Iggy’s road to recovery will not come at a cheap cost. She will need medical treatment, time to heal, and eventually a safe placement where she can live comfortably and securely. Iggy fought so hard to protect her kittens against all odds—now it’s our turn to fight for her. 💛 Will you donate today to help cover Iggy’s surgery, recovery, and the care of her kittens? Together, we can give this brave mama the second chance she so deserves. Update 10/22/25 Iggy is doing fantastic in recovery after her surgery and healing well! Her kittens are getting the attention and love they deserve and will be fixed soon.

Potato
From the Streets to Safety—Potato Needs Your Help!
Warwick, RI • Scruffy Paws Animal Rescue
Meet Potato—also known as Mr. Potato Head or Sweet Potato—an orange tabby with a heart as big as his many names. For years, he lived on the streets, toughing it out like a true tomcat. But when one of Scruffy Paw's dedicated volunteers spotted him, she knew he needed help. At first, Potato proved to be a tricky rescue—evading traps for weeks. But with patience and trust from his feeder and expert trapper, Potato turned out to be so tame that the trapper was able to just put him into the carrier. Once at Scruffy Paws Animal Rescue, his battle scars told the story of his rough past—scabbed ears, fresh scratches, infected abscesses, and an FIV-positive diagnosis. After treatment and neutering, Potato was placed into foster care; however, he recently had to make an unplanned visit back to the shelter because his ears were bothering him. After being given a full exam, he was diagnosed with a heart murmur that did not present in his earlier exams. An in-house test suggested potential heart disease, and now, he needs to see a cardiac specialist for further testing. His specialist visit and testing will cost around $750. This has put a strain on an already tight budget for Scruffy Paws, but they're determined to do right by this sweet and loveable boy by assuring all his medical needs are identified. Please help them get the care Potato needs, so he can fully heal and be ready for adoption! Thank you!
