Sampson

Sampson is a 4-year-old Domestic Longhaired, mix in Eureka, CA, who needs $1,136 for Lump Removal & Biopsy.

Eureka, CA • Sequoia Humane Society

Sampson is a cat rescued from another facility who was transferred into our program in ______. Sampson currently resides at Sequoia Humane Society as an adoptable cat. After arriving, we found out that Sampson has a special condition. Sampson is FIV positive, meaning he may need additional veterinary needs throughout his life. Sampson is an adoptable cat at Sequoia Humane Society. He is friendly to all that pass by his kennel, and he gives the best hugs to the closest human he can find during his free time. Although he is FIV positive, you wouldn't know there was anything different about Sampson. He is a very active, curious, vocal cat here in the shelter, and we are honored to help him find his furever home! Sequoia Humane Society is a nonprofit animal shelter. We rely on grants, events & fundraising, and the generosity of the public to continue doing the work we do. Every dollar means so much to us, and it means the whole world to a pet in need! After arriving at SHS, Sampson visited Broadway Animal Hospital to get his checkup and to see about a lump that has developed on his neck. The vet ran some tests on Sampson, and determined removal and a biopsy would be the next step to determine whether or not he may have cancer, and what treatment course would be needed. Fortunately, the biopsy showed no cancer, so Sampson is looking great! Sampson is special, and quickly became a shelter favorite. He makes everyone who interacts with him smile instantly. He is eager, verging on aggressive with his cuddles and affection, but so gentle with his touch. Sampson gives full arm hugs whenever he is close enough to a human, but he makes sure that his claws do not injure the hug recipient. He's purrrfect as far as we're concerned!

Dennis

Dennis is a 2-year-old American Shorthair in Eureka, CA, who needs $1,160 for Saving Dennis.

Eureka, CA • Sequoia Humane Society

Dennis is a cat that is available for adoption at Sequoia Humane Society in Eureka, CA. He joined us through a rescue transfer in early February, so he has been with us a little over two months. Since joining us, Dennis has had medical conditions. Dennis' lifesaving care has been costly, but we know it will be worth it once he is in his forever home. Dennis is a sweetheart, and although we did not know much about him when he first arrived, that much was apparent! This cuddle-bug can't wait to get his paws on whoever happens to pass by his kennel, and we can't resist him whenever we walk by. His friendly greeting and warm meow are so welcoming that you just can't help but love him! As a nonprofit animal shelter, we rely on grants and the generosity of our community to achieve our mission. Medical expenses that extend beyond the expected animal care plan are supported by our Shelter Medical Fund. Contributing to these procedures helps us save more lives After visiting with our shelter vet at Broadway Animal Hospital in Eureka, CA, Dennis was diagnosed. Knowing that this was an important procedure, our shelter vet got right to work on getting Dennis back to healthy. We are so grateful that Dennis is back and in good spirits! Dennis is quite the standout here at the shelter. Since joining us around two months ago, everyone has become familiar with Dennis and his antics! You can usually tell when Dennis is feeling good by his expressive body language in his kennel. His cuddle dance is so tempting that you have to stay for just a few more pets.

Marvin

Marvin is a 6-month-old Shepherd Mix in Eureka, CA, who needs $2,000 for Dental Extraction for Tooth Embedded in Nasal Cavity.

Eureka, CA • Sequoia Humane Society

Marvin came into Sequoia Humane Society in September 2020 in a large group of puppies. All but Marvin have been adopted from that rambunctious group of pups, but not for a lack of sweetness. Marvin has stayed behind in the shelter for a little bit longer so that he can get treatment for a dental issue that would affect him (and possibly worsen as he grows) for the rest of his life. Marvin is a friendly face for all that he comes into contact with! Even when you aren't directly crossing paths with Marvin, he makes sure you know he is there. His big paws and wet nose pop up over the fence and beg to be seen! We know that Marvin will make the perfect companion for the lucky human that adopts him! Sequoia Humane Society is a non-profit, no kill shelter. We ensure all pets are healthy and cleared by our shelter veterinarian before entering their forever home. Getting Marvin the treatment he needs will mean getting started on the rest of his life in a real home. Marvin's tooth is embedded in his nasal cavity, which causes some breathing difficulty. At only six months old, Marvin is still growing, so his problem may worsen as he gets older. If left untreated, Marvin's outcome possibilities could include cyst/abscess development at the site of the tooth, or the tooth may continue to be pushed even further into his nasal cavity as he grows into an adult dog. Marvin is a goofy guy! He makes you laugh with his antics, and it feels like he is trying to get you to smile. It is amazing to watch the incredible dog that Marvin is becoming, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for him and his forever family. He is going to fit into life in a home just great!

Igor

Igor is a 4-year-old Terrier in Eureka, CA, who needs $1,701 for Digestive Distress & Lethargy.

Eureka, CA • Sequoia Humane Society

Igor is a dog that was transferred into our shelter from a high volume shelter in California. We brought him into our program to give him a second chance at life and a loving home. We believe he is around four years old, and his estimated breed is a Cairn Terrier/Mix. We have been working with Igor to get him neutered, vaccinated, and otherwise ready for his new family. Igor may take a little more time to warm up to his new family than some other dogs. We have been working hard to make him comfortable and healthy. Shelter staff is making sure to give him extra love and attention to help him come out of his shell. We have seen him make some great progress towards learning to trust, and are very excited to see how far he has come since arriving in our shelter. We rely on grants, our partner thrift shops, pet store sales, and the generosity of the public for donations. Donations help us stretch our funding to help even more pets in need. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a negative effect on some aspects of our fundraising. Igor was treated at Broadway Animal Hospital and is recovering very well! He was treated after shelter staff noticed he was lethargic and experiencing bloody stools. He was rushed to Broadway Medical Hospital for emergency treatment and was hospitalized overnight. He was treated and given fluids, and given a special food to help him get back to full health. Igor is a very special guy! We have been working with him a lot since his arrival in order to help him adjust to life with loving people, and are so proud of his transformation so far. We know he will make a great, loving companion once he finds his forever family. He is going to make someone very, very happy!

Eureka, CA • Sequoia Humane Society

Ash is a rescue from a high volume shelter out of the area. He was recently transferred to our shelter so that we can help find him a forever home to live out the remainder of his years in. While he is in our shelter, we are working hard to get him healthy so that he can get a fresh, new start in his new home. Ash is a friendly and sweet little guy. He has been friendly with all of the shelter staff despite all of the medical problems he came to us with. He has been such a trooper with all of the treatments that he has gone through and continues to be a happy go lucky little guy. We are excited to help him find a forever home once he has recovered enough to be ready for adoption! As a non profit, no kill shelter, our funding is limited and based on donations, grants, and other fundraising methods. When we have a pet with outstanding medical costs, we often have to get more creative with our funding to make sure we can provide the care needed. When Ash came to our shelter we quickly realized that he had some severe kidney issues. We took him into Sunny Brae Animal Clinic since he was getting very sick and they tested his kidney levels and found they were way above the normal range. Luckily his levels have dropped significantly after spending many days at the vet. He doing much better and is now on a special diet to help his kidneys. He have found Ash to be special for a number of reasons. He has been consistently friendly and sweet despite all that he has gone through since he arrived at the shelter. Maci

Maci is a 5-year-old Terrier mix in Eureka, CA, who needs 1,739 for bladder stone removal.

Eureka, CA • Sequoia Humane Society

Maci is a female, terrier mix that is around five years old. Although she was originally introduced to shelter life through an owner surrender, we received her from a shelter transfer. It didn't take long before we noticed Maci was experiencing some troubling symptoms. Maci's urine had blood in it. In an attempt to remedy the issue, we worked with our regular veterinarian to start her on a treatment for a urinary tract infection. Upon completing the treatment series, we found that her symptoms had, sadly, not improved. We then brought her back to our vet, where the completed some x-rays that told us more of the story. It turned out, Maci had a bladder stone the size of a chicken egg that was preventing her from successful urination. The vet figured she must have had this issue for quite some time before we had gotten her. In an effort to relieve her long-term discomfort, we decided quick action was the best route. She had the bladder stone removed immediately, and returned back to us blood (and probably pain) free! We are so happy that we were able to provide care for Maci so that she can live out the rest of her life comfortably. Since her surgery, we have also had the stone tested to get down to the cause of its formation in the first place. She is now on a special diet to ensure that this problem does not happen in her lifetime again!
