New York, NY
We adopted Winnie two years ago after losing our beloved 16 year old cat. Winnie brought light back into our lives after that loss. She was the shy, itty bitty girl at the shelter and we needed to get her out of there. She came home and became more confident as she felt safer and comfortable in her forever home. She’s our tiny sweetheart, who now has two cat siblings who love and miss her. Winnie is at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center in NYC. She’s been there 5 nights so far. We brought her in jaundiced with fluid in her abdomen, dangerously anemic and with low BP. Her ultimate diagnosis is FIP. She’s been on anti viral meds but showing minimal signs of responding to the drug. She’s had blood and human albumin transfusions. Prognosis is guarded. She needs is more time and care. Winnie is the oldest of three cats. She has slowly bonded with the others and even though she’s much smaller than them she stays in the mix. She is a vocal girl who “chatters” at birds and the sound of a soda can cracking open. She’s very tiny but mighty. Her favorite time is the evening when she gets to hang on the couch with us and get her favorite treats. This expense is a shock but we just couldn’t give up on our sweet girl, who’s only 4 and deserves a long comfortable life after being in shelters from the start. We see her fighting. She is bright and alert, despite being so sick, and we see she isn’t ready to leave us yet. Update- we have adjusted our current goal so our community can see exactly what their impact looks like in real-time. This new $3,000 target is focused on the immediate cost of saving Winnie while we continue her care through check-ups at the hospital and FIP medication.
