Fred was found in a park in October. He was curled up in a field, watching the other dogs walk by with their humans, who were avoiding him because he was off-leash. At first glance, I was scared too but realized he wasn't a threat, so I approached and called out for him to come. He slowly got up, came to me, stealing my heart with his gentle way of being. Fred was undernourished with a limp. I decided to keep Fred in my home for the stray wait, as advised by the shelter due to overcrowding and his condition. When his owners didn't come forward, I decided to keep him, unaware of his medical needs. Then I learned he has a cruciate ligament tear causing his limp. A Loyal Companion can make a brace to heal his knee without surgery to keep him mobile and using the stairs to my home. Fred is the sweetest, happiest little dude. He loves all people and all dogs and just wants to play and have a good time. His pain and mobility challenges have not diminished his zest for life or his spunk and he loves to explore. I was told he spent a lot of time in a crate because his teeth are mostly gone or worn down, but he has a diverse palette and enjoys eating tasty, soft treats. I was not planning to get a new dog after my dog passed from cancer in August because I am still paying her bills and was deeply grief stricken. I am on a fixed income and can't cover Fred's medical care, but I love him and want to keep him happy and comfortable in my home.
