Blu is a 6-year-old Miniature Blue Pit Bull in Abilene, TX, who needs $900 for surgery to repair damage to scalp and ear.

Blu is a rescue who came into our life barely 9 months old. He had been so neglected and undernourished that he never got his full size, so we call him a pocket pittie. My great nephew took to him immediately and actually named him, calling him Blue because of his color. He also became firmly attached to my late sister. Blu is the family clown. He has the best attitude, and will go out of his way it seems to make everyone smile. He also seems to have a special talent for helping people with seizure disorder, which is good since one of our present household does suffer from seizures. When this occurs, Blu is immediately by his side and will nudge or lick him gently until he comes around. My wife and I are both over 50 and on disability. Blu is special to us, and we would be heartbroken to lose him after the year we have had due to health crisis. Our Vet is Animal Health and Medical Center. Last Friday, Blu killed a rabbit in our yard, and he and another of our dogs got into a fight over it. The other dog got the best of the deal and Blue was badly torn up. We are rehoming the other dog, and I used my medic training to try and close the wound. Unfortunately Blu will not leave it alone, even with a cone, and he keeps opening it up, and now needs major surgery to get it closed. Blu is our mobile heating pad. If anyone is in pain, Blu is there trying to make it better. At night he will lay next to my right knee that has been operated on a number of times and just be a tail wagging heating pad. His whole attitude seems to be "how can I help you feel better". If you are down, he is there to cheer you up, and loves to snuggle up with you and smile.
