Barney
Barney is a 5 month old Peking Duck in Des Moines, IA, who needs $600 for Blood Tests for Environmental and Wellness Symptom.
Des Moines, IA
Meet Barney! I got Barney as a rescue last month as the farmer didn’t want a blind duck 😞 Barney was scared at first but when he got home to his brothers and sisters he started talking and was happy. Ten days ago Barney started to show signs that something was wrong. He started flipping backwards, swinging his head around unable to stop it couldn’t keep his balance. Then the seizures started! Barney went to the vet and unfortunately his symptoms are not of the norm and his vet thinks it is neurological. With that Barney will need to go through many expensive tests and probably be treated for his whole life for him to maintain a stable future. Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic is Barney’s vet and only one of the two vets in our area that treat birds! We know he is in good hands Being that Barney is partially blind he is an indoor duck. But he has a lot of siblings to play with in the house and to visit in the yard. His favorite thing to do right now is to sit outside on the grass and take showers. Much of his time is spent being held and cared for with his condition Unfortunately the cost of Barney’s tests and treatments were not something we could have guessed when we rescued him. We felt that with his blindness he should have a fair chance for life. We are not in a position to afford however the expenses for this serious illness

Leo
Leo is a 10 year old Mix-Breed in Iowa City, IA, who needs $2,000 for Tumor Removal.
Iowa City, IA
Leo was acquired as a scraggly little orange kitten full of fleas living outside. I brought him home and fixed him up. He is a spicy orange boy who loves bathing in the sun. Leo went in to the vet for what we thought was issues with his teeth. Instead we found out he has a large tumor and it's causing him to not eat and lose weight. The veterinarian is Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic in Ankeny, Iowa Leo likes pets and cuddles on his own terms. He likes to lay on you but if you pet him too long or when he doesn't want it, you'll get yelled at! Leo spends a lot of time snoozing in a sun beam, it's his favorite thing to do. We've exhausted all financial options for him. We are hoping to be able to raids the funds to get him help removing the tumor so we do not have to euthanize him.

Maddox
Maddox is a 3-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier in Des Moines, IA, who needs $149 for consultation to determine options.
Des Moines, IA
I got Maddox when he was 10 weeks old. He was unconscious and barely breathing, but this little guy who was only 4lbs then and is only 40lbs now, has the heart of a lion. He made it and is now almost 4 years old. Maddox is special needs. He has canine dysfunctional behavior which is the equivalent of autism in dogs. He is the sweetest most gentle boy. Everyone who knows Maddox loves him. Maddox keeps to himself for the most part. He lives with 3 other dogs but rarely interacts with them. He is not a social happy go lucky dog. But that's okay, we accepted Maddox for who he is a long time ago. Much like a human with autism Maddox is socially challenged. He doesn't like change. It scares him so we keep things simple and routine here. I lost my job last February. I am currently in the process of starting my own business making dog clothes and pet memorial jewelry. This could not have happened at a worse time. Maddox started having what appeared to be pain in his legs when he would sit down. X rays were done that revealed nothing. 3 weeks ago it got worse. I took him back to the vet and they think it is neurological. AVS in Omaha has a neurology department so Maddox will be seeing them this Tuesday. We are praying it is not neurological. Maddox will not walk on hardwood floors. He has to be on carpet or he isnt going. Maddox has ocd. He also doesn't play or wag his tail. He's a very monotone dog who likes to keep things calm and simple. We haven't rearranged the furniture since he was a puppy. He has one bowl he will eat out of but only that one bowl.
