Nyx

Nyx is a 4 year old American Staffordshire Terrier in Asheville, NC, who needs $4,000 for Bi-Lateral TPLO and MPL Repair.

Asheville, NC

Nyx came into my life after I saw her at the local shelter, so scared of the world and all the people in it. She looked me in the eyes as if to say "help me, I promise I am worth it!", and I knew that she would be coming home with me. Now she has an older Lab sister and a little kitten she adores, and an entire family at her beck and call! Nyx was diagnosed with a partial tear of the CCL in both hind legs by her doctor at Asheville Veterinary Associates- West. We have taken multiple x-rays and sent referalls to specialty orthopedic surgeons to confirm this diagnosis, and have her surgery set for February 11th, 2026. Nyx is a comedian, an actor, a track star, a couch potato, and a cuddle bug all in one. She has been so afraid of the world since she was a puppy, but through love, dedication, and patience has become one of the bravest, kindest, and most loving animals I have ever known. She LOVES to run and leap with her doggy friends, which makes this diagnosis especailly difficult for her. I currently work full time as well as pet sit and sell art, and my partner also works two jobs just to make ends meet. This surgery will allow Nyx to live her life to the fullest again, and enjoy hiking trips and pack outings with her dog friends.

Mia

Mia is a 11 Year Old Australian Cattle Dog in Asheville, NC, Who Needs $2,000 for Large Sarcoma Mass Removal.

Asheville, NC

Mia is the STAR of my life! We’ve been friends for 11 years now. My mom texted me one day and said, Dylan there are free speckled puppies at some neighbor’s house. I went and fell in love immediately. She was the last one. I named her Mia after the Princess Diaries, a wholesome comfort movie of mine. She has a brother named Dawson, who is her rescue buddy! We love hiking and exploring and BALL! Mia has a large sarcoma mass that needs to be removed. It’s on her back left leg, and if left unattended for much longer there could be the possibility of amputation which would alter her life and I want to avoid. We go to Asheville Vet Associates-West. Dr Goff has been so helpful to us. Mia is know for her “Chewbacca” noises when you enter the house! Especially if you know her, she loves her human friends, her bestie dog friend, Harlowe and her Nana and MeeMaw! She’s obsessed with my pittie mix (her bubba) and she nibbles his whiskers quite often to show her affection. We are running on a very small budget. Living in Asheville after Hurricane Helene is proving to be difficult on us financially because I’m in a work industry that relies heavily on tourists.

Molly

Molly is a 9-year-old Dachshund in Asheville , NC, who needs $800 for Oral Dental Surgery.

Asheville, NC

Molly was a rescue. She liked to run away and the dog catchers got her. I found her in a shelter in AR. Immediately I fell in love with her, she melted my heart. She had a crook in her tail. I'm thinking it was a screen door slamming on it. She continued to scoot out the door whenever the opportunity arose. She has finally slowed down at the age of 9 years Molly has a little brother that was adopted also. I gave him to her as a tiny puppy for her to mother. Although, he is larger than her, she is definitely the boss. They clean each other's ears daily and play together like crazy. My little Molly rules the roost in our household being only 10 lbs. My grandson cherishes her and takes care of her when we are away, with the help of his mom. Molly likes to play with the smallest of toys. She has torn apart at least a dozen sqeeky rabbits. Will do anything for a treat. She's very smart and will outwit her brother for a certain toy or treat. She had back trouble 1 1/2 yrs ago but with lots of TLC she has made a full recovery. She's a spunky little girl. Molly has a very bad abcessed jaw tooth. Dr. BRAD GOFF with Asheville Veterinary Ass. In Asheville, NC, is her vet. He also says her teeth needs to be cleaned and scraped. Her abcess is draining puss and therefore her breath smells like a skunk died in her mouth. Dr. Goff says the surgery will cost about $1000, depending on how long it takes to extract this jaw tooth that has 3 roots on it. I am a senior living on a fixed income. I receive social security and disability. Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. I love my Molly and don't want her to suffer anymore. She'll be taking antibiotics and pain meds until her surgery. Thank you for reading

Cami

Cami is a 9-year-old Black Labrador in Asheville, NC, who needs $1,209 for Surgery Mass Removal Medium.

Asheville, NC

In July of 2015, I arrived at the guide dog training facility to meet my third guide dog. She was presented to me by the trainer who told me that she was a black lab named Cami. We live with Cami’s sister Gem, guide to my best friend. Cami is a bundle of curiousity who loves treats of all kinds and hording all of the chew bones, her favorite toys. Cami loves to get belly rubs from everyone in the house! When she wants something, she will put her paw in my hand or my knee. When I’m rubbing her belly, she likes to hold my other hand in her mouth. She likes to sleep in her crate which is next to my bed. She gets as close to the side by my bed as possible. She loves to play with her sister best of all! She likes for me to cuddle her. She secretly has a friendship with our 3 year old cat. She can be quite talkative, but only on her terms. She loves to play tug and is very competitive. Of utmost importance is her work as a guide dog which is superb! She has kept me safe for 8 years now. Durring a recent vet visit to address her chronic allergies, which had greatly improved with treatment, a lump was discovered. Upon investigation, it was determined that she had a massed celled tumor which is malignant. I was heartbroken. How could I help my companion who had helped me for all these years? The surgery for the removal of the tumor and testing is extremely costly and I have very little discretionary income. I know that she could have several good years ahead of her. She has always been there for me, and now I want to be. there for her helping her to get well.

Odin Clovis

Odin Clovis is a 8-month-old Mixed Breed Dog in Asheville, NC, who needs $1,800 for Femur Surgery.

Asheville, NC

Odin was adopted from Blue Ridge Animal Shelter at 4 months old. He’s been living with us for 4 months now! He was a rescue as they found him in a ditch as a puppy. He had worms and was very desperate for attention going into the shelter. We saw his photo and had to have him! Since being rescued he has been loved by us and by the community we live in. Odin brings so much love and light to our house hold. I, Taylor, am a US National Guard vet with mental health issues. I am diagnosed with multiple things and Odin is my service animal. He gives me a new purpose in life, when I’m having an episode he knows exactly how to calm me down, and he is always by my side. He is super cuddly with the boys and loves every person who comes into our home. His favorite toy was a hedgehog that got sent with him from the shelter. That thing has been torn apart and lost all stuffing but he still loves to cuddle and throw it around. He loves playing with all the neighborhood dogs at the dog park and even has 2 best friends he’s made. He will run around in circles with toys in his mouth trying to be chased and it’s precious! In a freak accident, Odin fell of the couch and hit the coffee table just right. He has a hairline fracture to his femur bone and shattered his growth plate. It will not heal on its own and without surgery he may not walk on that leg ever again. This was an unexpected injury that is way too expensive to cover on our own. All attempts of loans have been denied so this is the last attempt to save my dogs leg.

Leroy

Leroy is a 11-year-old German Shepard Mix in Leicester, NC, who needs $2,000 for Osteochondritis Dissecans OCD Surgery.

Leicester, NC

Leroy was adopted in July of 2022 from Almost Home Animal Rescue in Cedar Mountain. He was one of 9 puppies from Momma Mia who had her pups almost as soon as she arrived to the rescue! Leroys best friend is Randy, our sweet 7 year old orange cat. He has spent the past 7 months in Asheville NC, hiking, swimming and playing with his friends! Leroy had never met anyone he didn’t like, he especially loves children, small dogs and cats. When I first adopted Leroy, he was terrified of other dogs, especially large dogs. He quickly fell in love with my sisters dog Ranger - who taught him how to play, speak, share and snuggle. His cat brother, Randy, also played a huge role in shaping his personality - teaching how to “swat” and pounce. Leroy’s goofy, loving personality and puppy clumsiness is what makes him so special. We like to joke that he has 2 left feet because he is constantly running into things. He more often than not has his tongue out and it a rarity I get a picture where it isn’t. He remebers every person he meets and is eager to bring you his toys as soon as you get to the door! In December I noticed Leroy was favoring his right paw. He was in incredibly active pup and I figured he had just over done it one day. After a week of no improvement we went to the vet. I was advised to keep him off and to come back for X-rays in 6-8 weeks if no improvement. Recent x-rays have shown canine ocd. If left untreated Leroy’s could face lifelong joint issues and incredible pain. I am a teacher here in WNC and have already spent around $800 to get a diagnosis. I myself struggle with an autoimmune disease and am currently paying off my last hospital bill. I’m hopeful that this can help me cover the down payment for his crucial surgery.

Smudge Pudge

Smudge Pudge is a 8-year-old Domestic Shorthair Cat in Leicester , NC, who needs $950 for Bloodwork and Dental Extraction.

Leicester, NC

We recently adopted an 8 year old domestic shorthair cat from Brother Wolfe Animal Rescue and brought her home on Aug 30th of this year as a surprise for our daughter for an early birthday present. She had been volunteering for a while and fell in love with this “little old lady” so we made the decision to bring her home after weeks off begging. Smudge is a shy girl and was very small when she came home. Only 5 lbs. within two months she’s come out of her shell and even gained 2 lbs. She loves napping in the sun and is very curious and quite silly at times. Before finalizing the adoption we were told she had developed a URI and needed a round of antibiotics before they could release her. This was on the 18th of August. We got the green light to pick her up on the 30th and went to get her. We were told her URI had cleared up and the watery discharge from her eye was normal. She’s been a vocal cat from the start and at times will walk around the house crying out for what seems like no particular reason. We thought this was just her not wanting to be alone and crying out for some company. We’ve had Smudge for two months and over time her watery discharge began to get progressively worse… it’s gotten to the point where she has snotty discharge from her nose, coughs and sneezes constantly and has a difficult time breathing at times. Our vet clinic is in Asheville. I called to make an appointment on Wednesday 10/26 and got her in the same day. Turns out it’s not a URI at all. It’s a severely abscess tooth with root exposed and needs extracted… the quote is almost $1000 and that’s just impossible right now. We have children, bills, groceries and can’t just fork out a grand to pull a tooth. I don’t know what to do.

Leicester, NC

We found Cas an a pet finder website. He was living with a foster household. He was found wandering the streets and was severely malnourished. We adopted him and he was brought to us here in NC. We have since nourished him back to health and we show him and our other sheppard as much love and attention that we possibly can. He has regulat vet visits and is well taken care of. It has taken a bit for him to not be so timid. His doggy personality is coming thru more each day. He is such a pleasure and loves to be loved on. He is well behaved and a good guard dog. He is scared of fireworks, thunder, etc. Such a loving dog and deserves the best life possible. He does good with our family members and they all love him too. Cas makes us smile and laugh everyday. He has a funny bark that he does as he is calming down from alerting us of a possible threat. He plays alot with jade, our female and it's cute to see them interact. Both want the attention and both want to be dominate. It's a constant battle. He loves salmon and bacon. Cas is seen here in Asheville at Asheville veterinary clinic on Leicester hwy. He has 2 teeth needing to be pulled. One of them has been cracked and nerves are showing and it's very painful for him. It radiates into his jaw and up around his ear. I noticed he was in pain a couple days ago when he would just stop in his tracks and his jaws would quiver and he slobbering alot. Cas has been thru so much that we don't even know about. Both our dogs are well taken care of, up to date on all shots, taking preventative medicines, hip and bone supplements, high quality vet recommended dog food etc. My husband is the only one working at the moment.

Maynard

Maynard is a 3-month-old Tabby in Asheville, NC, who needs $2,000 for Orthopedic Surgery for a Fractured Elbow.

Asheville, NC

I've been with Maynard since he was born. His mother is a friendly semi-feral cat who dropped a litter right next to my van while I was working on it. I did what I could to assist the birthing process but had no intent to keep any of the kittens. One day Maynard at around 5 weeks old stood next to my foot until I picked him up and then he started purring. That's when I knew I had to adopt him. Maynard is very outgoing. He loves meeting strangers whether they're people or other cats. I began harness training him at an early age and would regularly take him in the car with me to get breakfast. He enjoyed the rides and being held out the window (while harnessed of course) so drive-through workers could pet him. Their faces would light up with smiles. Maynard enjoys food so much that as a tiny kitten he would push past his own mother to get his head into the food bowl. Since getting injured he's become a little more reserved but he's a total sweetie and everyone loves him. He travels well and my hope is that I'll be able to take him with me on the road for many years. Before his injury I'd let Maynard hang out with his mother during the day and then bring him in at night. One evening he didn't come home and the next morning he was waiting outside for me with a hurt leg. I took him to Asheville Veterinary Associates-West who said he had a broken elbow and that an orthopedic surgery would be required for him to keep his leg. No one expects a bill for $2,500 that must be paid quickly to help a 3 month old kitten keep his leg and I wasn't ready for an expense like that. I'm doing what I can to make the surgery happen but I'm looking at some difficult upcoming months financially.

Tinsel

Tinsel is a 6-year-old in undefined, undefined, who needs $1,500 for Dermatologist consult and treatment.

Tinsel was welcomed into our home in January of this year. She was found in a cow pasture in our town dirty, covered in fleas, and her ears were infected and full of ear mites which led her to be almost fully deaf. As I continued to work with her each day, our bond grew stronger, which led to me fostering her. After fostering her, we fell in love and couldn't let her go. She is now home! Tinsel is a quirky, fun-loving kitten! Her and out other 2 cats spend most of the day napping together, and chasing each other around the house. One of her favorite activities is doing acrobats in the shower while making turkey-like noises. She is mischievous, playful, energetic, and she brings such love and joy to our lives every single day. Along with her being nearly deaf, she has a permanent head tilt. It doesn't cause her any pain, and makes her totally unique. She walks around with her head tilted to the side, which makes her look like she is curious about every single thing she sees! She also has the biggest, beautiful green eyes. When I brought Tinsel home, I noticed she started over-grooming to the point of losing fur. I thought it was due to stress, but it seems to be deeper than that. After many exams, tests, a food trial, and medications, we are left stumped. Her next step will be to see a dermatologist to see if she is allergic to anything, and if so, what it is and how to treat it. Unexpected expense, and a costly visit to the dermatologist for allergy testing is needed. With no emergency fund available, I am reaching out for help for Tinsel. She needs help so her itching can be put to rest.

Walter Tipton

Walter Tipton is a one-year-old Irish Wolfhound in Leicester, NC, who needs $1,700 for emergency and ongoing care.

Leicester, NC

Jennie R. tells Waggle the moment she saw her dog, Walter Tipton, walk inside the house with both his front legs bleeding and covered in lacerations, her heart shattered. "There were areas with exposed bone, tendon, joints," she says. "When we arrived at the ER, he got on the stretcher to go inside for treatment and laid his head on my shoulder. Despite the pain, shock, and fear he was feeling, he was telling me we were going to be OK." Now Jennie is struggling to pay for the urgent and ongoing medical care Walter requires. "I can't imagine life without Walter. The counter-surfing, food stealing, shoe-eating, mischievous turkey he is keeps our little family together. I am a single mom to a 14-year-old, and sometimes, Walter is the glue that holds us together. His bills average $500 a week." And Walter is not only the glue that holds Jennie's family together. He also helped Jennie change how she looked at the world and brought her so much happiness. "Walter came into my life at a time when I needed a reason to keep going. I was working 90+ hours a week as an infection preventionist and felt nothing but fear and dread. Walter changed all of that. He taught my son and me that there was still laughter. There was still love, and it brought us back together as a family. He taught us how to love life again," Jennie says. Jennie adds his antics also keeps them laughing. "He is nothing beyond extraordinary. Don't get me wrong; he is far from perfect. He ate my mattress while I was in the shower and ate countless pairs of shoes (to the point that you are getting ready for work and realize you don't have shoes to wear to work). He literally spreads joy everywhere he goes." And they can't imagine life without him. That's why they hope you'll give to help him get the care he needs at Asheville Veterinary Associates West. "The bond Walter and I share is unexplainable," Jennie says. "I love him for his naughty, mischievous behavior, even when I am barefoot with towels stuffed in the mattress. He essentially has a fan club. Going around in our small community with Walter is like hanging out with Norm from Cheers. In a time with so much misery, he brings smiles and laughter to everyone he meets. He is absolutely one of a kind."
