Last December I went to the LASPCA to specifically adopt the cutest little one-eyed cat, who I named Wahid (which means 1). He had been in foster and I was excited to bring him to be a part of our family. We immediately noticed he was drooling a lot, so when we took him to his new kitten visit we told our vet. She told us unfortunately he had juvenile periodontal disease, and our adventure began. Wahid is relentless in his pursuit of cuddles. He is a lover to everyone and anyone who will allow it. Despite having tolerated so much pain from this horrible auto-immune disease, he is always the most loveable creature. Wahid is my three year old daughter's best friend. She is constantly loving and hugging him. I know it would break his heart if we had to surrender him due to the medical bills. We lost our other cat early this year when he was hit by a car, and I really don't want her to experience this heartache twice. We first took Wahid to the dentist last year and he had some teeth extracted. We were hoping he would outgrow the disease but he hasn't and now is developing painful sores in the back of his mouth and throat. He needs a full extraction of all of his teeth in order to have a healthy and productive life. Without the extraction he will continue to have difficulty eating without significant pain. The estimate for the extraction is $5,500 - $6,000. Luckily, we have insurance through ASPCA, however, they will only cover up to $3,000. I am teacher and a single mom, and really can't afford another $2500-$3000 on top of the insurance to save our cat,
