Mochi
Help Mochi get Medial patellar luxation (MPL) — San Fransisco, CA
San Fransisco, CA
Mochi chose me when I needed him most. Five years ago, during a very lonely season in New York, I walked into a Long Island adoption space and he immediately climbed onto me and followed me from room to room. The staff laughed and said he had made his decision. Since then, he has been my talkative, playful, catnip-crazy shadow—and my best friend. After a big leap during play, Mochi landed awkwardly and developed right-hind-leg lameness. He was diagnosed with a grade 3 medial patellar luxation: his right kneecap slips from its position. His regular and emergency veterinarians agree he needs surgical correction to prevent pain, instability, and joint damage. Dr. Olivia Winson at Maverick Veterinary Surgery Service will provide his care. Mochi is my best friend, my emotional rock, and my little shadow. He got me through some of my darkest, loneliest times and made my home feel like home. He follows me everywhere, curls beside me when I read, talks back with perfect sass, and asks to be held every day. Watching my normally playful boy struggle to move and not be able to play freely has been heartbreaking. I work in nonprofit development, a field I love, but I cannot absorb an unexpected $3,300 surgery. I was declined by CareCredit and ScratchPay and have pursued other aid (no luck). I am asking my community for help so finances do not keep Mochi from the care he needs.
