Hopps

Hopps is a 8-year-old DSH Cat in Pittsburgh, PA, who needs $2,000 for Stereotactic Radiation.

Pittsburgh, PA

I adopted hopps about 6 years ago, it was love at first sight. He had been hit by a car and has his back right leg amputated. When I first brought him home he was very shy and hid under my bed for a couple weeks, he did warm up after awhile and even got used to the other pets in the house. Right now we live in pittsburgh with my sister, his auntie. Hopps is the center of attention all of the time and he absolutely loves it. He takes turns sleeping with me and his auntie and his favorite hobbies are cuddling with us, watching birds on YouTube and scratching his cardboard scratchers. He loves cookies and meats and usually expects to eat anytime we do, even if he just had his dinner. Hopps is such an easy going, loving cat. He loves cuddling and even though he was very shy at first he has really opened up and as long as they're going to pet him he loves meeting new people, even doctors. He likes to sleep in a basket or one of his houses, he has one for every season but they're all up year round. He loves to lick and headbutt you when cuddling and he enjoys making biscuits. Hopps was guven anribiotics in the beginning of october for a cold. Towards the end of the antibiotics he started sounding worse. We were referred to the hospital where we got a second round of meds that also didn't help. After 3 triage trips and 2 more visits to the hospital we got the CT and biopsy that led to his disgnosis of nasal lymphoma. I am currently a full time student and can only work 25-30 hours a week. Since the pandemic, I have only been receiving about 20 hours a week on a consistent basis. I have already spent $4000 on treatment for him. I will do anything to help my best friend.

Oliver Wendell Holmes - (Oli)

Oliver Wendell Holmes - (Oli) is a 4-year-old Maine Coon Cat in Edinboro, PA, who needs $2,000 for SRS/SRT Radiation.

Edinboro, PA

In August 2018 I went to a local pet rescue just to go pet kittens! When I got to the shelter, all the kittens came over to play for a few minutes. Then one kitten jumped on my lap & would not move. I said to myself I’ll come back in a couple of days and if he still does that, then he has to come home with me. I came back, and the kitten jumped on my lap again & refused to move. He picked me! We have a total of seven pets in the house, three dogs and four cats and Oliver gets along well with everyone. His favorite, however, is another cat named Blossom, who is also a rescue who I found in my flower bed a few days after I adopted Oliver they love to snuggle and groom each other, as well as run around the house in the middle of the night. Oliver also loves to snuggle and groom our dogs. One of my favorite things about Oliver is how he and blossom love to play with little pom-poms that they carry around in the middle of the night meowing like they’ve captured a mouse. After he is done with that, he usually comes into my bed and sleep there all night and is there first thing in the morning laying on top of me with his 14 pounds, purring, and getting as close to my face as he can! Oliver was extremely healthy up until the morning of August 21, 2022 when he came into the bedroom and I saw he had a lump on his head. I thought he had been playing rough and went to the vet to check it out. Well it turned out to be a fibrosarcoma, and the amazing vets at PSVEC in Pittsburgh removed the tumor, but because of the location, he will need radiation treatment as well to try to beat this. I do not have any back up money to pay for Oliver’s treatment. I take care of 7 pets in all, but Oliver picked me and he means the world to me. He is always there for me and loves me unconditionally. I promised him I would always be there for him too.

Mia

Mia is a 12-year-old Chihuahua mix in Randolph, NY, who needs $2,000 for CT to proceed to Radiation Treatment (SRT).

Randolph, NY

I rescued Mia 3-4 years ago and she was the best addition to my other dog Roxie. Mia has bright fun loving energy. She loved to go on long walks and sometimes runs. She is very vocal and sings too. She is a sweetheart and one of the best decisions I have ever made to adopt her. She didn't come with much history but I don't think she received as much care and attention before me. Mia likes to "go outside for a walk" and "treats". She plays pretty well with my older dog Roxie. She is very vocal and likes to speak her mind if she is anxious. I keep a relaxed household and that helps her anxiety. I believe she is mixed with jack Russell from her body structure, color, and the excitement of long walks. Mia loves her sister Roxie and they play with each other without a toy. They kind of dance around each other making noises. Mia enjoys her walks the most. She used to play with toys but she gets bored easily. Outside is her friend, where she can chase bunnies and squirrels, run in the grass, and lay under the sun. Mia did not come with a history or any illnesses or problems. She recently fell in love with her new vet at Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center - 3930 North Buffalo Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127 - (716) 662-6660 She has been taking very good care of there and I am impressed with Dr. Erin Toone who was very thorough. Sudden major expenses with no emergency fund. I am a hard working independent woman who does not have any savings because of debt. I have been able to keep up with bills and medical treatments for Mia up until now. It would mean the world to me to see Mia feeling better!

Zeus

Zeus is a 7-year-old Boxer in Pittsburgh, PA, who needs $2,000 for radiation.

Pittsburgh, PA

We adopted Zeus from St. Louis Stray Rescue on May 11, 2019. He then moved with us to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in August 2020 as we began attending graduate and law school. Zeus is our only pet, and he definitely gets the benefits of being the only "child." We try to spoil him as much as we possibly can because he deserves the world. Zeus LOVES water. We have a water bottle with a special straw that is for watering succulents, but he has to have a drink from the bottle any time he sees it. He is definitely the king of our apartment. He will huff at us if we take up too much of "his" couch, and he is a huge snuggler at night. He likes to sleep right in between us for optimal cuddles. The total costs for treatment include CT, brain mapping, MRI, and radiation. Without radiation, we would only have a couple of months with our sweet boy. With radiation, we could have over a year. We're grad students, so we don't earn much money. About 4 months ago, Zeus started showing symptoms of neck and back pain. We tried different medications. Since we moved to Pittsburgh, we've worked primarily with Dr. Scoda at PVSEC. She's amazing and initially treated Zeus for intervertebral disc disease due to x-ray evidence consistent with the disease. Unfortunately, Zeus got worse, and an MRI revealed a tumor on his brain stem and spine. Zeus just wants to be wherever we are. He does not care what we are doing as long as he can lay next to us. He thinks it's even better when we make eye contact with him, at which point he slowly rolls to his side for belly rubs. Zeus has the most soulful eyes that melt your heart. The look in his eyes when we saw him at the shelter is what drew us to him.

Niko

Niko — b45b02

Munhall, PA

My 6 year old son was devastated after he lost his best friend Laura at only 4 years old. All he wanted for Christmas was a new puppy. Christmas morning arrived and in the middle of our living room floor was a small round box. AJ was so excited as he opened it to find that Santa left a tiny 7 week, little Golden retriever named Niko after one of his reindeers. Niko was a gift for our whole family. Niko is one of the best dogs we have ever owned. He’ll greet you at the door and still greet you 2 hours later. He loves company. If you try to leave he will grab onto whatever you have and hold you back so you can’t leave and stay to scratch his chin. Niko loves to go on daily walks with his family and takes and play with all his toys in his yard. He definitely rules the roost and is my 3rd baby. Due to COVID my husband & I were laid off for months. My husband just recently returned to work & we are trying to catch up on bills. I run a day care in a public school building which hasn’t opened yet therefore I haven’t returned to work yet. This surgery will set us back. Niko has always been a happy bouncy dog. Recently he started coughing and coughed up some blood clots which scared us all. After a vet visit thinking he had a lung torsion we headed to the emergency vet thinking he needed emergency surgery. They did some tests and found that he had a tumor in his lung. A pulmonary carcinoma. They believe it’s one that is operable which would save his life. Niko is always making us laugh and keeping us on our toes. He’s a very needy dog who loves and craves your attention. Whether it’s grabbing whatever he can to “Scratch my chin”, where he will sit until your arm falls off from scratching his chin and as soon as you stop he’ll flip his head under your arm to start all over again. Niko lives his 2 best friends Aj age 14 and Grace age 10.

Xerxes

Xerxes — cf6759

Ambridge, PA

I received Xerxes as a gift for Christmas back in 2013 after my dog Xena passed away. We’ve always lived alone, and when I was at work he would go to my mothers house for the day and be with his two sisters Molly and Callie. We all just recently moved to a new area so things remain the same with daily play dates with his sisters. Callie is actually from the same parents just different litter. Everyone loves Xerxes wether it’s family or strangers. He sleeps all over the house but his favorite place is in the bed. When he takes his daily trips to his sisters house they’re usually running around the yard endlessly, but once tired they all squeeze up on the couch with my mother and rest. Xerk was diagnosed with lymphoma in early spring. I have an entry level job that barely pays my expenses and to date I have paid over $7000 for his treatment. At this point, I used all of my savings and have borrowed over $5000 from family. Diagnosis: Stage IVb B cell (medium cell size, high class II MHC) Lymphoma- PR/nCR post Elspar/pred - SD post vinc, mild PD post Cytoxan, CR post Adriamycin - OR on 8/18/20 - CR post Elspar/pred/metformin, PD post CCNU, PD 9/18/20 post Elspar/dex, improve post Cytosar - SD to slight PD He’s been going thru treatment and doing well. He loves going to the dog park after I get home from work and seeing all his friends and running around. He also love to play fetch, although his way of playing is standing at the top of a hill and dropping the ball making it roll to me and then I kick it down the dog park, he’ll retrieve it then back to the top of the hill again. His favorite song is “everybody dance now”.

Buttercup

Buttercup is a 9-year-old Boxer mix in Aliquippa, PA, who needs $2,000 for MRI and probable brain surgery .

Aliquippa, PA

In 2011 I got buttercup, I was 12 years old, and she was 7.5 weeks. Buttercup's birthday is July 2nd. We live with my two sisters, and my dad. My mother kicked us out when Buttercup was 4 years old, she was the only thing I brought with me. She's the core of our family dynamic, having been through everything with us. Buttercup is my best friend, she is also my entire family's best friend. She adores my 2 year old cousin, even though he only sneaks her carrots. She spends most nights in my bed, but if my dad or sisters are having a hard day she'll migrate to theirs. I struggle with anxiety, and she has always been there to sooth and center me when I can't help myself. Covid-19 ruined my credit rating, being out of work and UE benefits being delayed, barring me from Care Credit. Buttercup is my everything, my baby, my rock. I depend on her to feel safe and stable. My family as a whole will struggle without her sneezes. July 11th Buttercup suffered a seizure, her first ever. She was taken to Rainbow Emergency Vet, who referred me to a neurologist at PVSEC for an appointment at the end of August. Unfortunately, she spent all of July 15th with neurological fits, and we can safely assume it's a brain tumor. With surgery, as she's very healthy, we have another 3-5 years. Without, 1-3 months. Buttercup doesn't really enjoy toys, or treats, preferring to lay in bed with me when the curtains are open, letting the sun warm us. She likes sneezing in the mornings, because she's so excited to wake up beside me. She likes sneezing and doing a dance when I get home from work. We also enjoy hikes with lots of bugs and creatures to look at.

Sasha

Sasha is a 9-year-old miniature schnauzer, terrier mix in Pittsburgh, PA, who needs $2,000 for cataract surgery.

pittsburgh, PA

This is my Sasha, she just turned 9. She is a beautiful, energetic, lovable rescue pup that I've had since she was a baby. She lives with me and my boyfriend of 9 years and she gets all the love that we can give. She has her own pillow and likes to sleep on it between us. She loves to play used to chase all the bunnies. We have a small rancher with a good size backyard for her. Sasha loves to go to the park and see people, shes super friendly and everyone meets her they always say how cute and well behaved she is. She loves to visit my mom, shes 79 and Sasha is her buddy. She loves my sister and her dog Apollo too, they always played together. She is a kisser, she will lick you right in the face if you dontt watch it. Since the pandemic, my boyfriend has lost a lot of work and we have been going through our savings. It would mean MORE than the world to me to get Sasha's eyesight back so she can go back to playing and being healthy. She was hospitalized for pancreatitis on December 23rd and spent 4 days in the hospital, which was over $3,500, where they diagnosed her as a diabetic. We have done everything to help her with shots, a change in diet, walks in the park and she was fine. It took a week for the cataracts to set in, she started bumping into things and now shes blind. She is going to PVSEC hospital with Dr. Finn. My little Sasha is my life, She knows when I'm having a bad day and she always wags her tail and wants hugs when I'm feeling down. She loves TV, she used to watch it all the time as shown in one of the pictures, He favorite is cartoons like "The Secret Life of Pets" or Animal Planet. She used to run to the edge of the bed, barking and tail wagging, whenever another animal was on the TV.
