Huey
Abandoned, Broken, and Still Fighting: Help Huey Get the Care He Deserves
Lauderhill, FL • Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation, Inc.
Someone left Huey on a bench outside Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation in nothing more than a carrier. There was no note. No explanation. Just a frightened little Yorkshire Terrier mix who could barely keep his balance. Huey was walking in circles, his eyes darting uncontrollably, and he struggled to stay on his feet without falling over. It was obvious something was terribly wrong. Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation immediately rushed him for veterinary care. Initial diagnostics, including X-rays, painted a heartbreaking picture. Not only was Huey suffering from serious neurological problems, but the imaging also revealed evidence of horrific trauma. Veterinarians found a fractured back, approximately seven new fractures and nearly twenty healed fractures, leading them to suspect that Huey had endured prolonged, severe abuse before he was abandoned. Despite everything he has been through, Huey has never stopped fighting. Huey was referred to a veterinary neurologist after showing persistent neurological signs, including involuntary eye movements (nystagmus), circling, difficulty walking, and suspected vision and hearing loss. While he has made encouraging progress with supportive care and antibiotics, he continues to circle in unfamiliar environments, has an abnormal high-stepping gait, and still shows signs of neurological impairment. After a comprehensive neurological examination, specialists determined that Huey's condition likely involves multiple areas of his brain, including the cerebellum, which controls coordination and movement. There are several possible causes, including previous head trauma, a brain infection, congenital abnormalities, a stroke, or another neurological disorder. While his improvement is encouraging, the exact cause remains unknown. Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation is continuing conservative management for now while Huey remains on antibiotics and restricted activity. Due to his previous spinal fractures, he must avoid jumping, rough play, and other high-impact activities while he continues to heal. One thing is abundantly clear: Huey has not given up. Even after everything he has endured, he greets his caregivers with a happy spirit and a determination that inspires everyone who meets him. His neurologist believes his quality of life is good and that he deserves every opportunity to continue his recovery. Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation is committed to giving Huey that chance, but they cannot do it alone. Your donation will help cover the cost of Huey's neurological evaluations, ongoing medications, follow-up care, diagnostic testing, and the specialized treatment he needs as veterinarians continue searching for answers. Huey has already survived unimaginable cruelty. Now he deserves compassion, healing, and hope. Please donate today to help this resilient little survivor continue his journey toward the safe, pain-free life he's always deserved. 7/23/26 Update After everything this little dog has endured, we're so grateful to share that Huey continues to make encouraging progress. While his recovery has been slow, it has also been filled with hope. Huey's neurological condition has improved with time, supportive care, and medication. Although he still faces significant challenges, he's adapting remarkably well. His veterinary team has determined that Huey is mostly deaf and mostly blind, though he is still able to detect shadows and navigate familiar surroundings with increasing confidence. Despite these lasting impairments, Huey's joyful personality continues to shine through. His journey is far from over. Huey will continue to need ongoing veterinary monitoring, medications, and follow-up veterinary care to ensure he remains comfortable and continues making progress. While some of the damage caused by the unimaginable abuse he suffered may be permanent, his improvement is a testament to the incredible difference that compassionate medical care and a safe, loving environment can make. Your continued support will help cover Huey's ongoing medical care, follow-up appointments, medications, and specialized treatment as he continues his recovery. Every donation—no matter the amount—helps Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation give this resilient little survivor the care he deserves. Please consider making a donation today. Together, we can help ensure Huey continues moving forward toward the happy, safe, and loved life he's fought so hard to find.

Sir London
Sir London is a 2 year old French Bulldog in Plantation, FL, who needs $3,500 for MRI and Surgery.
Plantation, FL
I’ve had London since he was 5 months old my friend brought him to me from Georgia. He’s a purebred with a British mom and a California dad. London is playful, friendly, and full of energy. He’s never been on a date but has met a few female dogs he liked. He currently lives with me and enjoys plenty of love and attention every day. London was perfectly fine earlier playing, eating, and walking normally. Later that night, his back legs became weak, he was panting nonstop, and felt very hot. I rushed him to the ER, where he was diagnosed with spondylosis. The ER visit cost $3,500, and he now needs to see a neurologist for an MRI and possible surgery estimated at $14,500. London is such a special boy he loves playing fetch and chasing us around the house. He’s very social and runs to greet everyone. When we come home, he jumps and dances on his hind legs with excitement. He loves snuggling in the boys’ beds and protects them like he’s big and tough, even though he’s just our sweet, playful companion. London had insurance and a wellness plan until I went back to school full-time. With my program’s restrictions, I haven’t been able to work, making his medical costs overwhelming. Having him healthy again would mean everything he’s family and deserves a pain-free life.

Ryder
Ryder is a 5 year old Dachshund in Delray Beach, FL, who needs $2,000 for IVDD Surgery.
Delray Beach, FL
Ryder came into my life 4 years and 5 months ago and has been my heart ever since. He’s 4 years, 7 months old, the goofiest little guy with the best zoomies and cuddles. I call him Bugs or Buggy because he’s my snuggly bed bug. He’s my soul dog — I truly believe we found each other at the exact moment we both needed it most. I’d be lost without him. Ryder went in with a limp and was diagnosed with DJD in his shoulder and possible IVDD in his neck. He got a neurological exam and presented normal. About a week later his limp came back on the opposite leg. He has an MRI tomorrow to know the exact cause and next step is surgery-but everything’s piling on so fast. I’m doing my best to keep him comfortable and get him what he needs. Ryder is so vocal—he loves to “talk,” snuggle, and be close. He’s the most loyal, loving, and hilarious little dude. I truly can’t imagine life without him. He brings so much joy, love, and light into my world every single day. He’s not just my dog—he’s my heart, my happiness, my everything. He's so brave and strong and loves his toys, getting the zoomies and of course his treats. I’m doing everything I can for Ryder, but with vet visits, tests, the costs are piling up fast. I just want him happy and pain-free again. He’s my whole world, and seeing him struggle breaks my heart. I just want to give him the care he needs.

Juliet
Juliet is a 1 year old French Bulldog in Dania Beach , FL, who needs $2,000 for MRI/Spinal Surgery.
Dania Beach, FL
My sweet Juliet came into my life on September 3rd 2023 as a rescue. I saw her lil face and I could not resist taking her home to be loved forever. It is just me & my other dog in the house and I knew she would fit in perfectly for both of us! I gave her the name Juliet because its a beautiful name and my other babies name is Romeo. My heart belongs to the both of them. Juliet began having some pretty bad spasms/twitching along with trembling, and excessive panting, loss of appetite and became very restless & uncomfortable. She was taken to LeadER Animal Specialty Hospital for evaluation and it was determined that she may have a neurological problem going on and we were referred out to Southeast Veterinary Neurology. Juliet loooves her treats and to play with every dog she sees. Juliet loves everyone and always wants to be included in everything. She is the best cuddler and kiss giver. I can't wait to get home everyday because I know she is waiting there to love on me. She makes me happy when I am feeling sad or depressed and makes me even more happy when I am already happy. Juliet is in need of an MRI and surgery. They need to determine if she has IVDD or meningitis and get her the treatment she desperately needs. I am on a fixed income and do not want to lose my baby. It would mean the world to me to have her running & playing like she use to.

Darwin Von Netwon
Darwin Von Netwon is a 6-year-old Bichon Fris in Pompano Beach , FL, who needs $2,000 for MRI & Surgery with Post Hospital Care and Recovery.
Pompano Beach, FL
My ex and I wanted to start a family at the time but knew a child would not be in the cards yet. We choose to get a dog instead. Darwin was purchased from a verified Bichon fries breeder, as I have allergies to pet dander, it was imperative that I picked a purebred due to their hypoallergenic properties. She has since left and my new gf absolutely loves him as does his brother Mewtu who is worried Darwin has an awesome life, he gets smothered with love and kisses from both myself and my current gf of 3 years. He loves sleeping on the bed, esp on my pillow, but knows to go to the floor when its time for us to sleep. He loves to welcome each of us with happy kisses and tail wagging when we get home. Loves to be outside running and playing especially his long walks in the am and pm. Darwin has been with me since he was 8 weeks old, and has been a critical part of my life in helping me through some of the worst times I encountered and would not be here if not for him. He has so much kindness and love in his heart and it breaks mine to see him a mirage of his former self due to the intense pain he is always in. Hi, I'm Jonathan, I am trying to raise funds for my loving dog Darwin Von Newton; who injured himself when he fell off the bed and landed with his hindquarters on the foam roller for my old injury recovery. Darwin's X-rays revealed that he has a prolapsed disc between his L2/L3 vertebrate, the Nero stated that he would need to get an MRI to get a base then surgery to correct the issue. We are on a fixed income and his injury came at a time where we were recouping our savings from christmas. His initial appointment finished wiping it out with the x rays and medications, his upcoming MRI and Surgery are something we cant afford on our own.
