Hugo

Hugo is a 12-year-old Tailless domestic brown tabby (former stray) in St Francisville, LA, who needs $1,900 for Bladder surgeries and hospitalization to save Hugo’s life.

St Francisville, LA

Hugo wandered on to the school grounds where I was teaching. Some mean boys were trying to kick and stomp him. I rescued him from the boys. He was so beautiful and unique - he didn’t have any tail. I took him to the vet, had him treated and neutered. Then I took him home with me. Hugo has been my constant companion ever since - 10 years. With Hugo as company, I don’t feel lonely living alone. Hugo loves to hug & give kisses. He spends his time with me and two other cats — Toes & Papa. All three are former strays. They sleep together in a pile on my bed just like kittens. Hugo will tug at my hand when he wants petting. He uses his paw to pull a food bowl away from the other cats, so he can get their food. He will go to his food or water bowl and “Meow” to let me know what he needs. Hugo has never met a human he doesn’t like since his rescue. He has endeared himself to his vet and her staff with his desire to interact with them despite his painful UTI and subsequent blockage. When he woke up from his first procedure, the vet said Hugo was purring and trying to give them hugs and head butts, but was too sedated to be able to stand up. Hugo suffered a UTI. But it turned out he had crystals and stones that had to be surgically removed from his bladder. A damaged part of his bladder had to be removed. An additional surgery was needed to stop a leak that developed a week after the 1st surgery because his bladder was more damaged than it appeared to be at first. He has been under the vet’s care since 1/27 and is still hospitalized I am 70 years old and live on my Social Security benefits, which barely cover normal living expenses. Hugo means the world to me, and he deserves every chance to live. His catheter should be removed 3/2. He is doing remarkably well, but his medical bill is beyond my means
