When our 13-year-old daughter Tallee was 3, we got Roxy from a horse rescue in Bosque Farms, NM. Roxy was in bad shape but Tallee loved her into good health and has spent every day with her since. They learned to ride together in our backyard until one day we discovered Roxy's true passion-roping! When Tallee was 7, she and Roxy started roping together. In April 2024, Roxy was healthier than ever at 19 and Tallee had finished riding her when she choked on her senior equine. We rushed her to Thal Equine horse hospital and removed the choke. Sadly, Roxy developed pleural pneumonia. Roxy has been in the horse hospital ICU ever since. Dr Thal thinks he can save her. Tallee visits her in the hospital every day and prays she can bring her girl home. Our kids affectionately refer to Roxy as the Rock. Roxy takes care of Tallee like her baby and Tallee teases us that Roxy is her second mom. I have been battling cancer for the past 12 years, so when I couldn't be there, Roxy was. Roxy ferociously protects Tallee and won't let any other horses come near her. Roxy is the most loving, strong, noble horse who will do anything for Tallee. This unexpected medical expense blindsided us. We are public school teachers up to our eyeballs in medical debt from my cancer. We have always taken great care of Roxy and consider her family. Our vet bill is $8000 and climbing. Of course, we will do whatever it takes.

10 yrs ago we got our daughter Roxy, a paint horse from a rescue in Bosque Farms, NM. Roxy was in bad shape but Tallee loved her into great health. Over the years we trained Roxy to ride and then discovered her passion-roping. Tallee and Roxy have been roping since Tallee was 7 years old. Roxy was in perfect condition and super excited about spring living at home with us until 4-7-24. 4-7-24 perfectly healthy, Roxy choked on her senior equine feed, we immediately took her to the Thal Equine horse hospital and he removed the choke but she developed plural pneumonia. Dr Thal still has hope that Roxy can recover but our bill is currently $8000 and climbing. We love Roxy she is a member of our family and we will do anything for her. Our kids affectionaly refer to her as THE ROCK. Roxy is the Rock of our family. Our daughter thinks of her as her surrogate mom and teases us that Roxy raised her. I couldn't always be there since I jave been fighting cancer for the past 12 years but Roxy was always there. Tallee has ridden Roxy everyday for the past 10 years. They have become partners. When Tallee approaches Roxy whinies and Roxy won't let any other horses near Tallee. My husband and I are public school teachers and we have 4 children. We are in medical debt due to my 12 year battle with cancer. Roxy is everything to our 13 year old daughter and we will do whatever it takes to get her healthy and bring her back home.
