We Went to Save One Puppy. We Couldn't Leave the Other Dog Behind

When D&A Animal Rescue set out to save a tiny puppy, we had no idea we would end up rescuing two dogs in desperate need of help. It took several hours, but we finally managed to get the little puppy to safety. We believe she is only about 10 weeks old, and what we found broke our hearts. She was severely underweight and covered in fleas, a tiny baby who had clearly not been getting the care she needed. But she wasn't alone. Standing nearby was an adult female dog who looked remarkably similar to the puppy. We don't know if she is the little one's mother, but one thing was immediately clear: she needed help, too. The adult dog was also covered in fleas. Her paws had visible wounds, and her back legs were extremely swollen and red. She was terrified of us, skittish and frightened, and in desperate need of a veterinary examination. We had come prepared to rescue one puppy. We hadn't planned for a second dog, and we didn't know what her medical needs would mean for our already stretched resources. But how could we walk away? We had seen her suffering. We knew she needed help. And we couldn't bring the puppy to safety while leaving another vulnerable animal behind when we had the chance to save her, too. So we made the decision to rescue them both. Meet Bella, the little puppy who deserves the chance to grow up healthy and happy, and Miley, the frightened adult dog who deserves relief from whatever is causing her pain. Now, both girls are safe with D&A Animal Rescue, but their journey is only beginning. Bella needs veterinary care to address her low weight and flea infestation, along with an assessment of her overall health. Miley needs a thorough examination to determine what is causing the swelling and redness in her back legs and to treat the wounds on her paws. Both girls will need appropriate parasite treatment, and we must wait for their veterinary evaluations to understand the full extent of their medical needs. We don't know what these dogs have endured or how long they have been struggling. We only know that they should never have had to reach this point before receiving help. Bella should be discovering the world, playing, and growing into a healthy young dog. Miley should be able to walk comfortably, feel safe around people, and experience kindness without fear. Instead, they are beginning their journey to recovery with significant needs and an uncertain road ahead. This is where we need you. D&A Animal Rescue stepped up for both dogs, even though the plan was to save just one. Now, we need help covering the veterinary examinations, medications, flea treatments, diagnostic testing, nutritious food, and ongoing care that Bella and Miley will need. Benji is a tiny rescue kitten who was born without a properly formed anal opening. At just 20 weeks old, he is already facing a serious congenital abnormality that makes it difficult for him to pass stool normally. His condition has caused fecal leakage, severe irritation and infection around his bottom, and a dangerous buildup of stool in his colon. He also has a congenital chest deformity. Benji needs specialized veterinary care, further testing, and likely corrective surgery-treatment that will be very expensive for our rescue. Despite everything, this sweet boy deserves the chance to grow up happy, healthy, and pain-free. He didn’t choose the challenges he was born with, but together, we can help change his future. My cat is a beautiful tortoiseshell girl who is much more than just a pet to me. She is part of my family, and I love her dearly. She has brought so much happiness, companionship, and unconditional love into my life. She has her own unique personality, and the bond we share is something truly special. As a single mother of three who works hard to support my family, unexpected veterinary expenses have been difficult to manage. Asking for help is not easy, but my cat means the world to me, and I want to do everything I can for her. Any kindness, support, or donation would mean more than words can express. My cat recently experienced a very difficult and heartbreaking pregnancy and delivery. She gave birth to three kittens, two of which were stillborn and appeared to have developmental abnormalities. Her only surviving kitten was premature, extremely small, and weak. Despite our efforts to keep the baby warm and provide supplemental feeding, the kitten sadly passed away the following day. I am extremely concerned about my cat's health and recovery after such a traumatic delivery. I want to make sure she has no remaining complications, infections, or other medical issues that could put her life at risk. She needs veterinary evaluation and any necessary treatment to ensure she recovers safely. Unfortunately, the cost of veterinary care has become a financial hardship for me. I am seeking assistance so I can provide her with the medical attention she deserves and make sure she has the best chance at a healthy recovery. The bond I share with my cat is incredibly special because she is so much more than a pet to me. She is family, a source of comfort, and a constant reminder of how powerful unconditional love can be. No matter what kind of day I am having or what challenges life throws my way, she brings me happiness and comfort just by being there. She trusts me to love, protect, and care for her, and that is a responsibility I take seriously. Watching her go through the heartbreaking experience of losing all three of her kittens has been devastating. I wish I could take away her pain and make everything better. She depends on me, and I never want financial difficulties to be the reason she cannot receive the care she needs. She has given me so much love and companionship, and now, when she needs me the most, I want to give her that same love in return. She is not just an animal in my home. She is a part of my heart and my family, and her life matters deeply to me. I am asking for help because I am struggling financially and cannot afford the unexpected veterinary expenses my cat needs. I am a single mother of three children, working full-time while also attending college to build a better future for my family. Although I work hard to provide for my family, I am already struggling to keep up with everyday living expenses, household bills, and my mortgage. Recently, my cat went through a heartbreaking experience when she gave birth to three kittens. Two were stillborn, and the only surviving kitten was premature and extremely weak. Despite my efforts to save her baby, the kitten sadly passed away. Watching my cat go through this has been emotionally devastating, and I am worried about her health and recovery. I have already tried to find ways to pay for veterinary care, including applying for CareCredit, but I was denied. I never imagined I would be in a position where I had to ask strangers for financial assistance, but I cannot stand the thought of my cat suffering because I cannot afford medical treatment. I am not asking for help because I am unwilling to take responsibility for my pet. I am asking because I love her, I am doing everything I can, and right now I simply do not have the financial resources to give her the care she deserves. Any assistance, no matter how small, would mean the world to me and help give my cat the chance to recover and live a healthy, happy life. Daisy first family abandoned her with some signs of abuse and mistrust. She was fostered by a man in Sacramento who tried returning her home but they didn't want her. She went through a few families that couldn't handle her energy as a pup. One day they came down to San Diego to visit the dog beach. From there we were lucky to run into them at my job, in a sushi restaurant. She was hit by a run away car. Her injuries involved broken tail, air in the lungs, fluid in the stomach, some scrapes and cuts, and the inability to control her bowels. She needed a catheter, a tube to drain the air around her heart, and she needs surgery to repair her bladder and potentially her lungs if the air continues to inflate. She also needs surgery to either repair or remove her tail. She is a really energized dog and we where able to give her the time to train and give her the home she deserves. She supper curious about everything, we always need to be careful about our things because she supper distructive, she loves to chew water bottles, and she is a picky eater. She always puts her head against you as if hugging you. She protects our home and she loves being around others My sister and I take turns to take care of her. We are both full time college students and only have part time jobs. We weren't able to pay the emergency care and x-rays, so we are in some debt already. We were able to get her to Mexico but the bills building, and more.

Morgan was gifted to us as a puppy and has been a loving companion to our girls. She’s full of energy, loves kids and has a passion for playing ball. Tragically, Morgan recently ruptured a disc in her back and was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). Because of this sudden injury, she has lost the use of her back legs and can no longer perform the daily therapy work that means so much to our school community. With the needed treatment, Morgan is expected to make a full recovery and get back to her daily job of serving students. At school, Morgan's daily "job" is to bring joy and comfort to children. She rewards students by letting them walk her to their classrooms or play fetch together. These small moments are a deeply special part of the day for many students, and this injury has completely taken that away for now. My husband and I are both teachers in KY. We’ve dedicated our lives to animal welfare and have rescued 57 dogs and puppies, successfully finding them all homes. The approximate cost of this surgery is $12,000 and unfortunately, it is too much of a financial burden for our family to bear. Morgan loves her job and wants to get back to her role of positively impacting the lives of students at Edna L. Toliver Intermediate School.

Harley is an American staff terrier she is 8 years old, she loves to play ball, very friendly, trained very well since 4 weeks old. I’ve had her since she was born. She came into my light at the darkest time and helped me through things in life I don’t think I would have made it without her. She’s my rider and goes wherever I go. Harley had a biopsy done on a spot on her stomach. It is a mass cell tumor and tested positive for cancer. She will need surgery to remove it. She also has a fractured tooth that needs to be removed as well. She came into my light at the darkest time and helped me through things in life I don’t think I would have made it without her. She is my emotional support dog. I need help with this surgery the estimate is in the pictures uploaded, estimated between 2,000$-2200$. I don’t have that kind of money and we caught the tumor early on for it to be removed before it spreads.
