Wilbert came unexpectedly into our lives about 5 years after the passing of our beloved Albert, a yellow lab. He was a rescue being fostered by a friend. He was only 5 weeks old and my friend allowed us to care for him over a weekend, and that was all it took. He was so calm, so loyal following us everywhere and always sitting as close as possible. Love at first sight. Wilbert is so energetic even at 10 years old. He loves long walks and playing. You would never know by looking at him the difficulties he has with his diet, protein absorption and Irritable Bowel Syndrome that requires a very specific, expensive diet that includes special enzymes, B-12 injections and multiple medications just to try and maintain him. Wilbert loves to talk and is very vocal. He plays, leaps, runs, skids still just like a puppy. He is a cozy snuggler that always finds his way to be close with us but he also has extended family that he enjoys visiting and always gets excited when we mention his name. Wilbert is a mix part boxer/pit bull and rottweiler. We heard all the negativity about this pit breed and he destroyed that myth. My wife and I have spent 10's of thousands on Wilbert's special care over his lifetime (as we did with our Albert before him that also needed numerous surgeries) We both worked and it was never a difficult decision. We now are both retired and on a fixed income.

We got Rusty about 9 years ago. We were watching dogs on Rover and we kept him for a man that had gotten him to replace a 16 year old pup that had just passed. The man was in his 80s and Rusty was a wild puppy. He broke his foot while on vacation and when he picked Rusty up he went home for a day or 2 and called me and said, if you guys want this dog ill drop him off, if not hes going to the pound We had Rusty in Robertsons 24 hour vet in fernandina beach fl. He was in the ICU for 4 days and we brought him home on hospice told he probablyhad cancer. My husband just couldn't accept not having a complete diagnosis. We took him back for a bit more workup and decided to do a scope. They found a hard peice of plastic in his small intestine and about 30 bladder stones. Hes currently still there Rusty has the BIGGEST personality. Hes full of life and so entertaining for anyone who meets him. Hes a huge cuddle and loves all the snuggles. Everyone that meets him absolutely loves him. We recently moved to a new area and are just getting over putting our 14 and 15 year old lab and pitt down in July due to cancer and severe arthritis. Our bill is now up to 13,000 for rusty. We really need a little help to pay it.

On veterans Day 2025 we became aware of a dog that had a litter of puppies and passed away. We decided to take one of the puppies and try to keep it alive which we did. She was very healthy and had just gotten her first set of shots at 7 weeks. Unfortunately we believe that the previous owners of the house had a case of parvo which of course stayed in the yard and she contracted it We took her to Canadian valley animal clinic in El Reno Oklahoma under the care of Dr Ross but unfortunately they cannot keep her in-house so we have to do in-home care. With the weather moving in as it is in Oklahoma getting care any other way is going to be almost impossible before it's too late Athena is a character she does the butt waggle all day everyday and bounces around until my husband gets home and then she is absolutely fascinated with his beard she just buries her face in it and stays there as long as she can when she's not buried in his face she is curled up next to me as if to say I love you too One of the reasons that we decided to get Athena is because we took in our five grandkids when their mother overdosed. We are in our '50s and were not prepared or planning to raise five more children all under the age of 12 it has depleted any savings or emergency funds that

Lincoln came into our lives in November of 2023 just after we moved back into our home after being displaced from water damage caused by a negligent roofing company. As you could imagine, a catastrophic event like that can wreak havoc on a person that struggles with their Mental Health. Lincoln brought me hope, comfort and an unconditional love that I needed so desperately. On January 3rd we lost Lincoln’s best bud, Maple to Mast Cell Cancer. He was grieving, we all were. I took him to the dog park to lighten the mood and for him to get some interaction again. Well, he went hard. We woke in the night to him screaming in pain. Leg shaking. The next day the vet confirmed progressive and advanced spinal spondylosis with potential for nerve compression and disc disease. Lincoln is the most loving and friendly dog. He has been an emotional support animal for me as well as for my son since losing his support doggo, Maple just weeks ago. He brings us so much joy and peace. Financially, I have only been working part-time as I am still battling with health issues. My husband has soley supported our family of 6. When Maple got Cancer in June, we exhausted a significant amount of savings on her surgery, only to lose her shortly after.

Goblin

Goblin came to us as our Secondhand Hounds foster (now The Bond Between) in October of 2021. He was a very anxious guy, but he got along great with our resident dog, Roo. After a few rough meet and greets with potential adopters, it became obvious that meeting new people was very stressful for him and we decided to welcome him into our home permanently so he could have a stable place to flourish. In the SPRING of 2025, we noticed Goblin limping on his left rear leg, and took him to be evaluated. We had x-rays done and discovered it was likely a torn CCL, and that it was recommended he have TPLO surgery. We were able to get him TPLO surgery on 9/30/25 at Rice Creek Animal Hospital in Lino Lakes, MN. At the time of his x-rays, it was also discovered he had arthritis in his back. Goblin is such a sweet boy, once he has learned he can trust you, which takes a while. The discovery of arthritis in his back (from a previous, unknown injury before he came to us) helped explain a lot of his guarded behavior, as he's always disliked hard floors, and being touched near or around his rear end. But if you have his full and complete trust, he just melts into you! We have a maxed out CareCredit due to Goblin's left leg TPLO surgery, and the failing health/loss of our 5 senior rats recently. We also know that Goblin's right leg is also starting to show signs of needing eventual TPLO surgery, as well as rehabilitation for his back pain.

Choupette was found wandering the streets by an SPCA rescue north of Montréal, CA in 2020 where she had 5 puppies upon arrival. They texted us a photo, & we adopted her over the phone, then began the arduous process of getting her across the border which was closed because of COVID. We are a couple living on a fixed income but have given her the best life possible, spoiling her beyond belief. Choupette's hind legs suddenly became paralyzed in December due to a herniated disc. She needed emergency spinal surgery, so we drove three hrs to Portland Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Care. Though it would be a huge financial burden, we weren't going to let her down since she had given us nothing but love. The total cost of her care came to $11,750, financed through CareCredit. As a Lhasa Apso Scottish Terrier mix, Choupette's breed was bred for cold, so she LOVES the snow in Maine! She romps through it, burying her head till it completely disappears. She also loves riding in the car & is anxious to go everywhere with us (which she does.) She takes us for long walks & runs & she is so sweet, gentle and loving that everyone she meets loves her instantly. We live on a fixed income & never anticipated Choupette's sudden paralysis & the cost of emergency surgery. We didn't hesitate to give our beloved dog what she deserves, many more years of good health, & she is already moving her hind legs & doing better than expected!

He has been diagnosed having a perineal hernia I have found who is able to do those services it is the Carolina Veterinary Specialists- Dr Martin I'm taking him to another vet tomorrow to have a tube go into his anal so he can be able to poop cuz the hernia has been obstructing him to be able to he has been scooting and straining so hopefully He has his certain way that he likes to love he will cut his head and half his body on my chest and just stay there up against my chest wagging his tail he has always been loving It's a struggle nowadays with working in a restaurant the paycheck doesn't come nowhere near the amount that I would need I haven't had anything quoted on the precise of the procedure but I looked it up online that it's not anywhere near my ability from the price ranges

Carrera found us in 2018 when a friend and client of mine, who helps rehome pets, posted a pic of her saying that she needed a home and she tagged me in the post. We instantly fell in love and she was ours. I have two daughters and we had lost our other labrador in 2016 to cancer. She lives with me and my younger daughter, our cat and two bunnies. Last fall, Carrera was diagnosed with AV Malformation in her right front leg. These are either congenital or caused from some type of trauma. We visited so many vets and had multiple tests to finally get a diagnosis. Her cardiologist team recommends surgery to correct this. They have to do a CT scan and angiogram prior to pinpoint exactly where to fix it. She is with Access Pasadena and Dr. Cole. Carrera is the sweetest, most gentle dog. She loves the cat and she also will just hang out with the bunnies and even lets them walk on her. She follows me everywhere I go and loves to cuddle on the couch. I take her everywhere I can and on road trips. She's been to San Diego, Ojai and Big Bear. She just loves being around us all the time and is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever had. Although I have pet insurance, this complication and surgery is an enormous unexpected expense for our family. Insurance will cover up to $4000 and the expected cost may be between $12,000-$15,0000. It is something that needs to be fixed and will only worsen over time.
