Rescued from a Kill Shelter: Captain Needs You

Salem, NH • Mary’s Dogs

Captain’s story begins on the streets of Texas—alone, unwanted, and in danger. She was picked up and brought to a high-kill shelter, where her time was quickly running out. But as fate would have it, Mary’s Dogs Rescue stepped in and gave her the second chance she never thought she’d get. She arrived at the rescue with a wagging tail and a brave heart—but she was heartworm positive. Her treatment is extensive and urgent, and the cost is steep: $7,000. Right now, Captain is under the care of a dedicated vet, receiving two powerful and expensive medications. Captain is nothing short of a sweetheart. She has excellent manners, gets along with all 17 other dogs at the rescue, and just wants to love and be loved. She’s already been spayed, fully vaccinated, and Mary's Dogs Rescue is doing everything they can to help her heal—but the rescue or Captain can’t do it without your help. The cost of care is overwhelming. They simply don’t have the funds to cover the remainder of Captain’s treatment, and she’s so close to the finish line. Will you help Captain complete her journey? Your donation, no matter the amount, helps cover her medication, vet visits, and daily care. It helps this gentle, loving dog move from surviving to thriving. 💛 Captain has the heart of a fighter. Now she needs a village to help her win. Please donate today and help her find the forever home she's been dreaming of.

Poppy

Poppy is a 8 month old Siamese in Seattle, WA, who needs $1,200 for FIP Treatment.

Seattle, WA

We rescued Poppy with her brother from an animal sanctuary. She now lives in a home that she loves with a family of 4 who adore her and her playful brother. She had a bad eye when we brought her home, but the kids were already in love and they are so gentle and caring with her. The sanctuary said she may lose the eye and that they would pay for that. We love her and she gets lots of love. We knew she had an issue in her eye - but we were told it will go away. We went to the vet the next day and received treatment. We returned almost every week for more testing and medication. Her brother grew more than twice his size, while she stayed the same. (she is currently still 3lbs, he is 7.5lbs). She is now diagnosed with FIP and will die if she does not receive treatment. Our girl, Poppy is only 8 months and already a HUGE part of our family. She fills our conversations and our hearts. She's a cuddle bug and shows such happiness to us, even though we know she's struggling. She loves going outside on her leash and resting in the sun with us. She sleeps with my kids at night and is just beginning to gently play. She rubs her little cheeks against ours frequently. We recently moved to Seattle from NYC. Having gone through serious burnout as a public school teacher during the pandemic, I left my teaching job and started my own business. My kids are proud, I'm happier, and I'm able to work at home - but it is a financial struggle.

Lexie

Lexie is a 4 year old American Staffordshire Terrier in Phoenix , AZ, who needs $2,000 for Removal of Mast Cell Tumor and Attached Digit.

Phoenix, AZ

Our fur baby entered our lives on a grocery store run. Her and her siblings were being sold by some youngsters out of their van and Lexie began to move towards my wife's voice so she grabbed her up. Lexie's eyes weren't even opened yet. We had to bottle feed her then ween her onto solid food just like a baby. My son, who was 7 at the time, named her Lexie. And the name has stuck. She's family. About 5 months ago Lexie had developed a mass that would come and go. If we played around it would swell, then go recess a little later. A few weeks prior to her last appt (the invoice is included w/ vet info) the mass swelled and stayed swollen. The vet has informed us the it is common unfortunately they have to take the toe as well. She also has a heart murmur which may complicate things. As most fur babies they're special in their own way. Lexie a family member and certainly not a pet. She's a protector, softy, sweetheart, lovable, & playful soul. She knows each one of us by our names and our roles in the family. Dad plays rough, Darius is good for throwing the ball, and Mom is all about love. She's our daughter. The vet said that this cancer may spread if not taken care of. Something we DON'T want to have happen. So we're trying to catch this ASAP. We live paycheck to paycheck and this was certainly an unexpected expense. Her insurance will only cover a portion.
