A friend of mine had a litter of puppies that he couldn’t get rid of, and he called to ask if I wanted a puppy. I was hesitant at first, but I went over to his house and this sweet, energetic, bull-headed big ole puppy came charging directly at me as I got out of the car. I knew immediately, he was the one I’d be taking home. He got his name nearly instantly, “King Arthur”. He ate something while I was at work, in the evening he began wrenching and gagging, and threw up half digested food and grass about 5 times. I was worried his stomach flipped, after getting some x rays at the emergency clinic, they showed an object in his belly. I’m now at a point of waiting for him to pass it, or it will require surgery. I can’t afford it, and my only other option is euthanasia He has never displayed an ounce of aggression, he thinks everyone is his best friend. Arthur has kept me in good spirits through some of the most difficult times I’ve experienced, and this sweet, lovable, annoying curious dog doesn’t deserve to die because of some object he ate while I wasn’t home. This comes right as I got a flea treatment done on the house, and paid rent. I’m a seasonal asphalt worker, and work is slowing down for the year. I haven’t been getting as many hours and they’re only going to grow shorter.

Baby Sheba couldn’t eat. She couldn’t heal. She needed rescue. Seven-month-old Sheba was suffering from a severe rectal prolapse for at least a week before help was sought. The only care given was to “clean her at home” while this sweet puppy stopped eating and continued to decline. By the time Sheba reached us, she needed emergency surgery to save her life. Doctors initially attempted to replace the prolapse and place a purse-string suture, but became concerned that something more serious was happening internally. During exploratory surgery, they discovered necrotic tissue in her colon that had to be removed immediately. To spare Sheba future surgeries, she was spayed, and her painful cherry eye was corrected. We are so grateful Sheba made it to rescue in time, but her medical care has been extensive, and she will continue to need close monitoring and follow-up care during recovery. Please help us give Sheba the second chance she deserves Sheba has already endured more pain than any puppy ever should. But today she is finally safe. She is finally being cared for. And for the first time in a long time, this baby has a chance to heal – with you by her side. 6/10/26 Update Sheba is slowly recovering but is still going to the bathroom more frequently than she should. She is receiving the best care possible right now. 8/3/26 Update After the extensive surgery she needed to remove damaged colon tissue following her rectal prolapse, healing is going to be a gradual process. The good news is that she is happy, playful, eating well, and enjoying all the love she's missed. But, healing takes time. The biggest focus is helping Sheba’s digestive system recover. She still has very frequent bowel movements and some straining related to the healing process, so we're continuing to work closely with her veterinary team to give her body the time it needs. We don’t yet know yet what her long-term needs will be. For now, Sheba is exactly where she needs to be - with a loving foster family, excellent veterinary care, and so many people (YOU!) cheering her on.

Puppy Ed is a true underdog who needs a chance. Love Leo Rescue first saved Ed when he was just a few weeks old and was abandoned in a park. "He was covered in ringworm and needed weeks of treatment," Sasha A., with the rescue, tells Waggle. Then Ed's foster mom noticed something was not quite right with his back legs. An MRI revealed Ed has a cyst on his spine that is compressing his discs and causing difficulty walking. If the cyst is not removed, Ed could lose his mobility permanently. "It was clear we only had one choice for him: to get him a complicated and big surgery to remove the offending cyst," Sasha says. "Love Leo Rescue is a non-profit 501c3 that takes in many medical dogs in need, just like Ed. Donations toward his treatment and care would help tremendously so we can continue to save more lives, just like him." Please help Ed get his operation and a fantastic future. "Despite his mobility issues, Ed loves to play and be as active as he can," Sasha says. "Ed is perfect with other dogs, cats, and kids. We love and need this young Corgi in our lives and are crushed that she has this health problem We got her from Big sky corgis in Montana. We had another old Corgi who recently had to let pass. We have a 1-year-old Kitty. We have our other Corgi. Our other corgis had names with the letters k that started the name so she became Kloe. She's very smart and affectionate and loving. She lets me dress her up and take her to dance class. We're supposed to talk We so want a way for her to live with meningitis because she'll live her whole life with it. There's no cure, just treatment. So sad. We love her very much. I'm everyday is She is very special to us because we got her after one year of recovering from a total house fire last year. Bane has an issue he doesn't like to discuss. His pooper is a bit broken and needs some medical intervention. "He began to have this anal gland issue in June, which has progressively worsened. He struggles to go poop and possibly has an abscess," Karianne R., Bane's human mom, tells Waggle. Now Bane needs surgery to give him some relief, and his family is so worried. Karianne R. and her husband adopted Bane one day years ago when they just went to "look at dogs" at the local shelter. (You know how that goes!) "When we walked up to Bane's kennel, he came over, turned his back to us, sat down, and promptly looked over his shoulder at us," Karianne says. "The volunteers said he had a rough life and has the scars to prove it." They took Bane home on the spot; he was the most well-behaved dog they had ever met! Bane is also an excellent and gentle big brother to two human twins! But the family can't afford Bane's surgery, and they're panicked his pooper might get worse. "We have had an unbelievably difficult summer with finances," Karianne says. "I had to have three surgeries since June. My husband and I have had time off due to having twins in the NICU last year and all the added expenses that come with twins. Bane being healthy would mean the word to us!" Lady Charlie is a hilarious, perpetually hungry, and irresistibly lovable basset hound who bounced into our lives as a puppy in January 2020. She has been our resident thief from day one reaching the counters with the skill of a Great Dane and swiping everything from pizza to sticks of butter. She shares the home with two other dogs, three cats, and three humans. During a routine checkup in April, an anal sac mass was found. The vet found Lady Charlie to have hypercalcemia - a sign of AGASACA - and biopsied the mass. Once those results confirmed the diagnosis, we were sent to Metropolitan Vet for a surgical consult. The surgeon felt that with excision of the mass, Charlie's prognosis was good. Life would be boring without Lady Charlie's shenanigans! She carts shoes, socks, pillows, and small items into our backyard through her doggy door. She tore up so much of my garden that I surrendered and planted her a carrot patch, fencing off the rest. I call her aggressively affectionate because she absolutely loves everyone she meets and is not shy about wanting belly rubs or treats. Over the past year, I have reduced my work hours to assist my youngest child with a medical condition. We have kept a strict budget, but we also encountered other significant expenses. Having to not worry about this surgical bill would bring such relief to our family.

Chewbarka Cannot Beat Parvo Without Help

Chewbarka, lovingly called Chewy, almost didn’t make it. Chewbarka, along with two other dogs, was surrendered to Rags to Riches Animal Rescue by members of an unhoused community who were trying to get the dogs help. All three dogs were suffering from parvo and needed immediate emergency veterinary care. On top of the parvo diagnosis, they were also battling hookworms and coccidia, making their condition even more serious. When Chewy was picked up, his condition was critical. He was so cold. His gums were completely white. His tiny body was shutting down, and honestly, the chances of him surviving were slim. The rescue team feared the worst. But Chewy kept fighting. After emergency treatment, there was finally some hope. He started doing a little better, and everyone breathed a small sigh of relief. But recovery from parvo is not a straight line, especially for puppies this fragile. Just a few hours after leaving one emergency vet, Chewbarka had to be rushed right back to another ER when his temperature dropped again, he became lethargic, and his gums turned pale once more. He just cannot seem to catch a break. Right now, Chewy is still fighting for his life. While he has shown incredible strength, he is not fully out of the woods yet and continues to need intensive medical care, monitoring, medications, and support. Emergency veterinary care for parvo is incredibly expensive, especially when complications continue and multiple ER visits are needed. But Rags to Riches Animal Rescue refused to give up on him because Chewy deserves the chance to live the happy, healthy life every puppy deserves. Now we are asking for your help. Every donation, no matter the amount, goes directly toward Chewbarka’s lifesaving medical care and helps give this tiny fighter a chance at survival. 5/19/26 Update Chewbarka’s story has already touched so many hearts, and we are so happy to share a much needed update on this brave little fighter. After multiple emergency vet visits, countless medications, sleepless nights, and a very uncertain road, Chewy is now doing much better than he was when he first came into our care. The tiny puppy who once struggled just to stay warm is now outside playing, running around, and finally getting to enjoy being a dog again. Seeing him happy, active, and full of life feels nothing short of incredible considering how critical his condition was when he first came to the rescue. There were moments when survival seemed unlikely, but Chewy never gave up. Thanks to the dedicated veterinary teams, his foster caregivers, and the overwhelming support from compassionate donors, he's getting the second chance he deserves. While Chewy still has some recovery ahead of him, his transformation has been amazing to witness. Watching him play outside and act like a normal puppy again is the update everyone was hoping for. After everything this little guy has been through, from battling parvo, hookworms, and coccidia to multiple emergency vet visits when his condition was hanging in the balance, it’s amazing to see him continuing to grow stronger every day. Recently, Chewy’s foster family noticed he was walking a little differently than usual, so they took him back to the vet to make sure everything was okay. The vet discovered that he had developed a blister, which is now being monitored closely. During the visit, they also noted that Chewy is a bit bow legged, something his care team will continue to keep an eye on as he grows. For a puppy who once struggled just to survive, his strength and determination continue to amaze everyone who has followed his journey from the very beginning. Even more exciting, Chewy is getting closer to the next chapter of his life. If all continues to go well, he should be ready to be neutered in the near future, another important milestone on his road to a bright and healthy future. Looking back at where Chewy started, cold, critically ill, and fighting for his life, it’s hard to believe how far he has come. Every tail wag, every playful moment, and every positive vet check is a testament to the incredible impact of rescue, veterinary care, and the generosity of supporters like you. Today, that same puppy is healthy enough to be adopted and begin the life he always deserved. But while Chewy's rescue story has reached its happy ending, his fundraiser is not over yet. The reality is that lifesaving medical care comes with a tremendous cost. The emergency hospitalizations, treatments, medications, diagnostics, follow up appointments, and ongoing veterinary care that saved Chewy's life generated significant medical bills that the rescue is still working to cover. Rooster has been with me since he was 12 weeks old. He got his name because as a puppy his barks sounded like a rooster in the morning. We instantly connected and I knew he was meant to be my dog. Rooster recently slipped on ice during the cold weather and tore his ACL. Due to the fact he is a three legged dog he has to have a surgery called a TPLO at Purdue. Rooster likes to chew on bones. He always wants to play and cuddle with his friends. He loves wearing clothes, sweatshirts, and t shirts. He will do anything for food. I recently graduated college. I didn’t have an emergency fund saved up yet. This surgery is pretty expensive and all I want is for Rooster to be healthy again so he can go back to playing with his friends.

Rocket is just a puppy. She should be spending her days playing, exploring, and discovering the world—not fighting to recover from devastating injuries that no young dog should ever have to endure. Just days ago, Rocket was surrendered to a shelter after suffering for more than 24 hours following a brutal attack by another dog. By the time she arrived, the extent of her injuries was heartbreaking. Her head was severely swollen, covered in multiple puncture wounds, and it was clear she had been living in unimaginable pain. NYC Second Chance Rescue immediately stepped in to give Rocket the emergency care she desperately needed. Although Rocket is now in stable condition, her fight is far from over. She has developed a significant infection from her wounds and remains incredibly weak. While antibiotics are beginning to help combat the infection, Rocket still has very little interest in eating, and her veterinary team is working around the clock to keep her comfortable with aggressive pain management and supportive care. Despite everything she's been through, this brave little puppy continues to fight. Rocket's recovery will require ongoing hospitalization, medications, wound care, diagnostics, and close monitoring as her body heals from the trauma she endured.
