Help Hodr Get His Second Chance at a Healthy Life

Boca Raton, FL • Chesed Foundation Rescue

Meet Hodr! This incredible little boy spent months at animal control, where he spent his days huddled under a blanket. At only about 9 years old, he seemed much older because of his severe arthritis and near blindness. Time and again, he was passed by—until Chessed Foundation Rescue found him and gave him a chance. Since arriving in rescue, Hodr has completely blossomed in his foster home. He is gaining confidence every day and has turned into an absolute Velcro dog, staying close to his foster mom like glue. In fact, it's a good thing he only weighs 4 pounds because Hodr loves spending his days zipped into her sweatshirt! While his veterinarians don't feel there is much that can be done for his vision or joints, there is still an important step that can help give Hodr the best possible future. Chessed Foundation Rescue has made the decision to have him neutered, which will reduce his cancer risk and also help make him more adoptable. After spending so long overlooked at the shelter, Hodr finally has a safe place to call home and people who believe in him. Now, we're asking for your help to cover the cost of his neuter so he can continue on his journey toward a long and healthy life. Every donation, no matter the size, will help Chessed Foundation Rescue provide Hodr with the care he needs and the second chance he deserves.

Help Jax Recover After Being Hit by a Car

Boca Raton, FL • Chesed Foundation Rescue

Jax is one of the coolest dogs the rescue has ever had! He is laid-back, happy about everything, and friendly to everyone—adults, kids, men, women, dogs, and cats. He truly loves them all. Jax has no teeth, so his tongue is always hanging out, giving him a uniquely adorable look. But as a senior dog, finding the right home can be difficult, and Jax has now been at Chessed Foundation Rescye for almost six months. Unfortunately, over the past month, Jax has started showing his age and exhibiting the beginning signs of dementia. Then, last week, something terrifying happened. During his usual 6 a.m. walk with his foster dad, a loud noise suddenly spooked Jax. He pulled the leash from his dad's hand and ran into the street. The noise was coming from a car speeding down the road, and the car ran right over Jax. Thankfully, Jax mostly went underneath the car. His foster dad immediately rushed him to the emergency hospital, where Jax received a full examination, X-rays, and ultrasounds. Thankfully, Jax's injuries were limited to a bruised hip and road rash. He is expected to make a full recovery, but the emergency visit and care resulted in a veterinary bill of more than $1,400. After everything Jax has already been through, we are asking for help covering the cost of his emergency care. Any donation toward Jax's veterinary bill would be deeply appreciated and will help ease the financial burden of this unexpected expense. Thank you for helping this sweet senior continue his journey toward the happy, comfortable life he deserves.

Help Sad Senior Shih Tzu Betsy Find Her Smile Again

Boca Raton, FL • Chesed Foundation Rescue

Betsy was a stray who found herself alone in a city animal shelter, frightened and vulnerable. Severely matted and struggling with limited vision and hearing, the shelter environment was especially overwhelming for this sweet senior girl. But when Chesed Foundation Rescue stepped in to give her a second chance, Betsy’s gentle spirit began to shine through. After she was safely out of the shelter and received the grooming care she desperately needed, her true condition became clearer. Beneath the mats was a sweet dog in need of medical attention, including treatment for an umbilical hernia and severe dental disease. Betsy is now safe in a foster home where she is receiving patience, comfort, and care as she adjusts to everything she has been through. While the transition has been difficult, everyone is hopeful that with time, healing, and support, Betsy’s loving personality will continue to emerge. Despite her challenging past, Betsy still has so much love to give. She deserves the chance to feel comfortable, healthy, and surrounded by the kindness and compassion she should have always known. Your support will help Chesed Foundation Rescue provide Betsy with the veterinary care she needs and give her the second chance she deserves. 8/8/26 Update: Betsy Had Her Surgery! Betsy had her dental surgery this week and it was a little more intensive than we anticipated. The doctors were able to repair her hernia at the same time. She is now back in her foster home, slowly recovering, and indulging in her new pastime, stealing shoes! Honestly, it is impossible to be mad at her- we're just so happy to see that she is getting some of her spunkiness back! We think that the surgery made a huge difference in how she was feeling and are thrilled that we were able to do this for her. She has many good years ahead of her and now she can really enjoy them! But now comes the part where we need to pay the bill. Betsy and all of us at Chesed Rescue would appreciate any donations; no amount is too small to help! Please help us pay for Betsy's surgery so we can go on to help more dogs in need!
