Limpy’s Long Road to Healing — From the Streets to Safety

Miramar, FL • Florida Animal Rescue Alliance

Limpy is a community cat whose rescue by Florida Animal Rescue Alliance was the result of more than a year of patient, determined effort. From the beginning, he was known for his visible limp—how he earned his name—and his clear struggle to survive outdoors in a high-risk environment. Volunteers spent months attempting to humanely trap him, but Limpy remained extremely cautious, often avoiding traps even when hungry. Over time, however, he began to show signs of trust, slowly approaching caregivers and revealing a more social, curious nature beneath his fear. After more than a year of consistent effort, Limpy was finally safely brought into care. His condition upon intake reflected the toll of long-term survival outdoors. He required treatment for respiratory infection, parasites, skin and dental infections, and was found to be FIV positive, meaning his immune system is compromised and requires ongoing management. Further evaluation revealed additional medical concerns, including: \- A likely old, improperly healed leg injury affecting mobility - Painful, damaged paw pads requiring ongoing care - A mass/abscess near the throat requiring continued monitoring - Recurring skin issues linked to allergies and immune suppression Most recently, Limpy was diagnosed with diabetes after showing significant symptoms. He has begun oral treatment and now requires daily medication, routine monitoring, and follow-up veterinary care to maintain stability. Despite this complex medical picture, Limpy has shown an incredible spirit. He is affectionate, social, and vocal—often seeking attention and leaning into affection as if he has been waiting for kindness all along. Even during handling and treatment, he remains calm and trusting. Limpy is now safely indoors for the first time in his life, finally able to rest and receive consistent care. While his conditions require lifelong management, cats like Limpy can thrive with proper treatment, stability, and love. Florida Animal Rescue Alliance is committed to giving him that chance. This campaign will help cover Limpy’s ongoing medical care, diabetes management, and long-term treatment needs so he can finally live safely and comfortably after years of survival on the streets. Thank you for supporting Limpy’s second chance at life. 5/21/26 Update: Limpy Still Needs Your Support Limpy continues to settle into foster care with Florida Animal Rescue Alliance Inc., and there have been some encouraging updates regarding his overall comfort and health management. After further evaluation, it was discovered that Limpy only has his four canine teeth remaining. Because of this, along with his diabetes diagnosis, he is now being maintained on a high-protein wet food diet to help keep him comfortable while also supporting better blood sugar management. Since transitioning fully to wet food, Limpy has been drinking a more normal amount of water and urinating less frequently, both positive signs that his condition may be stabilizing with his new care routine. However, he is still dealing with ongoing skin issues, including masses and hot spots that continue to require treatment and monitoring. Florida Animal Rescue Alliance Inc. continues to closely monitor Limpy’s health and provide the ongoing care, nutrition, and medical support he needs to stay comfortable and continue improving. Thank you to everyone continuing to support Limpy and his recovery journey. 8/14/26 Update: Limpy Is Thriving in His Foster Home Limpy continues to do wonderfully in his foster home! Her cats have become much more accustomed to him and mostly ignore him now, which has allowed him more freedom to roam throughout the house. He even has free rein overnight while the other cats sleep in their bedroom. After nearly six months with his foster family, Limpy seems completely settled in and comfortable in his new environment. Given how well he has adjusted, Florida Animal Rescue Alliance will also be checking in with his foster to see if she may be interested in making Limpy a permanent member of the family. Thank you so much for supporting Limpy's campaign and giving Florida Animal Rescue Alliance the opportunity to share his progress with everyone who has followed his journey. Your support has meant so much to Limpy and his rescue! ❤️
