Rosalie

Rosalie is a 1-year-old Pug in Cortaro, AZ, who needs $2,000 for Portosystemic shunt ligation.

Cortaro, AZ • HOPE Animal Shelter

Rosalie was found as a stray and taken into a foster home under HOPE Animal Shelter. Her owners were not found. She was malnourished when she was found and immediately saw our primary vet for a wellness exam. Rosalie was doing well in her foster home and her condition seemed to be improving, but there was always something a little off about her. She never had crazy puppy energy. Rosalie has always been very sweet and loving towards all humans and dogs, but she was always very calm. Since the Portosystemic shunt was diagnosed and medical management began, she has been a typical crazy pug puppy. She is non-stop all over the place and just always is having a good time. She loves to play and tell everyone how good she feels now. After spending over $5000 to diagnose Rosalie and get her back in good health, our foster program was left with no funds to cover the surgery to permanently fix the shunt. Medical management is not a long term solution, and she needs the surgery to live a long life. Rosalie began presenting with neurological symptoms while in foster care. She was rushed to Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson, and after over $5000 in testing and treatment, she was diagnosed with a Portosystemic shunt. She is currently being medically managed and has gone from not being able to walk and having seizures, to being a normal puppy. Just look at her pictures! Rosalie is goofball. She makes the best little faces with her buggy pug eyes. Since she is feeling better now, she is non stop entertainment for her foster family. They are so happy to see her true personality and this surgery will allow her to feel better all the time!

Sky

Sky is a three-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat in Cortaro, AZ, who needs $2,000 for emergency care.

Cortaro, AZ • HOPE Animal Shelter

No one knows what happened to Sky before she came to HOPE Animal Shelter. All rescuers knew was that she was a stray cat who was very sick. You could tell by looking at her watery, heavy eyes that she felt miserable. "Sky wasn’t eating, and the situation was dire," Susan S., the executive director of the shelter, tells Waggle. "I was very worried. She was breathing with her mouth open. We brought her to our emergency vet, and she was diagnosed with pneumonia." Dr. Karyn Carlson and her staff at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson immediately gave Sky antibiotics and IV fluids. She's been in the animal hospital for days fighting for her life. The shelter needs help paying for Sky's mounting medical costs. Every pet owner knows each day an animal spends in the ER usually ends with a big bill. The rescue says Sky is worth it and shows a lot of promise. "When she first came to the shelter, she wanted no part of us, but now she's turned into a little love bug. When I went to visit her at the vet, she came and curled into my lap and sat there," Susan adds. Donations keep HOPE Animal Shelter's doors open, and without their organization's love, care, and devotion, many animals would suffer. "We were the first no-kill shelter in our city, and many of the animals will live their entire lives in our care because of behavioral or medical problems," Susan says. "We will take animals from other shelters who are at high risk, have behavioral problems, or medical issues." 2020 was a rough year for everyone-- with your help, Sky will have an incredible new year, hopefully with a family who loves her.
