Mini Donut’s Life Was Spared, But He Still Needs Vet Care

NY, NY • NY Cat Warriors

Just hours ago, tiny Mini Donut was at the Animal Care Center and at risk of being euthanized. With very little time to act and without yet knowing the full extent of his medical needs, NY Cat Warriors moved quickly to pull him and give him a chance. Mini Donut is incredibly small and looks like he has had a rough start. He may need intensive medical care, and right now, the priority is keeping him safe, nourished, and closely monitored while his veterinary team determines exactly what he needs. One of NY Cat Warriors’ experienced fosters immediately rearranged things at home to make room for Mini Donut and provide the hands on care such a vulnerable kitten needs. And this little guy is already showing everyone just how sweet he is. Mini Donut is being bottle fed by his foster and seems to have a healthy appreciation for mealtime. He has also discovered one of his favorite things: chin rubs. After everything he has just been through, it’s wonderful to see him safe, eating, and soaking up affection. Getting Mini Donut safely out of the shelter was only the beginning. NY Cat Warriors now needs help covering his veterinary care as they work to understand his condition and determine what treatment he may need. When a tiny life is on the line, there isn't always time to have all the answers before stepping in. Sometimes rescue means saying yes first and figuring out the rest once they're safe. Just hours ago, Mini Donut's future was uncertain. Now he's safe, being bottle fed, enjoying chin rubs, and surrounded by people determined to give him every opportunity to get stronger. Please consider donating to Mini Donut's Waggle fundraiser and help NY Cat Warriors give this tiny kitten the veterinary care and second chance he deserves.

From a Hoarding Home to Healing: Help Three Rescued Kittens

NY, NY • NY Cat Warriors

When NY Cat Warriors rescued Newt, Toast, and Baby Veg from a hoarding situation, all three kittens came into their care with medical issues and in need of help. Toast, a young tabby, was suffering from severe diarrhea and an upper respiratory infection. One of his eyes was so swollen that it was completely shut, requiring immediate veterinary attention. Newt, a little black kitten, was also battling an upper respiratory infection and was vomiting when he came into the rescue's care. Baby Veg, the white and black kitten, was part of the same group rescued from the hoarding situation and, like the others, arrived with medical concerns of his own. These kittens had already been through far too much at such a young age, but with veterinary treatment and the dedicated care of their foster families, they have been given the chance to recover. Toast's eye is improving, his appetite has returned, and he is now eating like a champion. Although he remains shy and a little skittish, he continues to show everyone what a brave little boy he is. Newt has been just as resilient. He may be understandably tired of all the medications and treatment, but he continues taking everything in stride as he works toward feeling better. Unfortunately, the group recently encountered another medical setback. As Newt was preparing to go to a foster-to-adopt home, testing revealed that he has coccidia, an intestinal parasite that can cause gastrointestinal illness, particularly in vulnerable young kittens. Because Newt, Toast, and Baby Veg all came from the same hoarding situation, there is concern that the entire group was exposed. NY Cat Warriors is treating the kittens with Albon to address the coccidia and help them continue on the road to recovery. The good news is that their eye infections are resolving, and these little ones are moving in the right direction. But getting three kittens healthy after such a difficult start takes time, medication, veterinary care, and a lot of hands on support. Your donation will help NY Cat Warriors cover the veterinary expenses, medications, treatment, and follow up care Newt, Toast, and Baby Veg need as they continue recovering from the medical problems they brought with them from the hoarding situation. Newt, Toast, and Baby Veg have already made it out of a difficult situation. Now they need help getting through the next part of their journey. Please consider donating to help NY Cat Warriors give these three kittens the care they need to leave their illnesses behind and move toward the healthy, safe futures they deserve.

A Ruptured Eye Couldn't Break Scarr's Spirit

NY, NY • NY Cat Warriors

At just a few months old, Scarr has already endured more pain than any kitten ever should. When NY Cat Warriors rescued him, he was suffering from a devastating ruptured eye that required immediate emergency veterinary care. Despite the severe pain he must have been experiencing, Scarr remained incredibly sweet, trusting, and full of the gentle spirit that has captured everyone's heart. After being evaluated by a veterinary specialist, it became clear that his eye could not be saved. Scarr recently underwent enucleation surgery to remove the damaged eye. While losing an eye is heartbreaking, the surgery has given him something even more important: a chance to live without constant pain. Now that he's recovering, Scarr is showing everyone just how resilient he is. You would never guess everything he's been through as he continues embracing life like any happy kitten would. His playful personality is beginning to shine, and his rescuers are looking forward to watching him grow into the healthy, carefree cat he was always meant to be. But his journey isn't over. Emergency veterinary visits, diagnostics, surgery, medications, and follow up care have created significant medical expenses. Every dollar raised will help NY Cat Warriors cover the cost of Scarr's emergency treatment and ensure they can continue saying "yes" to kittens like him who have nowhere else to turn. Scarr's future is so much brighter because someone chose to help him when he needed it most. Please consider making a donation today. Your generosity will help cover Scarr's veterinary care and give this brave little survivor the healthy, pain-free future he deserves. Together, we can help Scarr leave his painful past behind and focus on what every kitten should be doing: playing, growing, and enjoying life. 8/13/26 Update We are absolutely amazed by the outpouring of support for Scarr. His fundraiser was fully funded so quickly that we barely had time to share an update before you all stepped up for him. Because of your generosity, NY Cat Warriors can receive reimbursement for the veterinary care that Scarr desperately needed, including the emergency treatment and surgery to remove his ruptured eye. Scarr may have lost an eye, but he has gained the chance to grow up without the constant pain he was experiencing. Now, this sweet little survivor can focus on healing and getting back to the important business of being a kitten. There may not be much new to report just yet because you funded his campaign so quickly, but that is the very best kind of update we could give. Scarr is recovering, surrounded by people who care about him, and has an entire community of donors behind him. To everyone who donated, shared his story, or helped spread the word: thank you. Your support made a real difference for Scarr and helps NY Cat Warriors continue stepping up for vulnerable kittens who need urgent care. We look forward to sharing more of Scarr’s progress as he continues to heal. For now, we hope you know just how much your kindness has meant to this little guy and the people who saved him.

Melbin

Help Melbin See a Brighter Future

NY, NY • NY Cat Warriors

Melbin’s story began when this young stray cat wandered into someone’s home in New York City looking for help. He was brought to the ACC, where staff quickly realized something was seriously wrong with his eye. As his condition worsened, ACC sent an urgent New Hope rescue plea asking for help for a cat with a very deep corneal ulcer requiring specialty care. NY Cat Warriors stepped in to rescue Melbin and immediately pursued specialty ophthalmology treatment. Veterinary Eye Center diagnosed a severe corneal ulcer and descemetocele affecting his right eye — a painful and potentially blinding condition that placed the eye at risk of rupture. In addition to his eye condition, Melbin was also found to have a heart murmur and abnormal cardiac testing; he required cardiology evaluation before surgery could safely proceed. NY Cat Warriors has already funded emergency ophthalmology care, medications, cardiology consultation, echocardiogram, and corneal surgery in order to save Melbin’s eye and relieve his pain. Despite everything he has endured, Melbin has continued to show what a gentle and resilient cat he is. The shy shelter cat who once hid in the back of his kennel has transformed into an affectionate lap cat with a relentless purr. He rolls onto his back for attention and rubs his nose against his foster mom’s face. He has been through an extraordinary amount in a very short time, but he remains loving, trusting, and deeply connected to people. We know that once he has fully healed, Melbin will make an incredible companion for a very lucky family. We are raising funds to help cover the substantial cost of Melbin’s specialty medical care so he can continue healing safely and eventually find the calm, loving home he deserves. 6/10/26 Update Melbin's surgery went smoothly, and he is now recovering under close supervision from his foster family and veterinary team. While we are encouraged by his progress so far, we are remaining cautiously optimistic. Earlier in his treatment, Melbin appeared to be improving before his condition unexpectedly worsened, so we know there are no guarantees. He is heading in the right direction, but he still has important healing ahead of him. One challenge has been convincing this energetic 2 year old that recovery requires rest. Despite his recent surgery, Melbin would much rather spend his days climbing, jumping, and exploring than taking it easy. His foster family has even had to rearrange furniture to make his environment safer while he heals. He is receiving eye drops and medications several times a day and is not shy about expressing his feelings about them. Thankfully, his moments of outrage are short lived, and he quickly returns to seeking attention, pets, and belly rubs. Melbin will return to his surgeon soon for his recheck. Until then, we are watching him closely and hoping for continued improvement. Throughout everything he has endured, Melbin has remained a loving, social cat. The staff at Veterinary Eye Center have become some of his biggest fans, and he continues to charm everyone he meets. Thank you to everyone who has supported Melbin's care thus far. Your donations have made it possible for him to receive the specialty treatment, surgery, medications, and follow up care he needs. We look forward to sharing more news after his upcoming appointment. 6/20/26 Update We’re happy to share that Melbin continues to make encouraging progress. At his most recent recheck appointment, his veterinary team was pleased with how his eye is healing. One of the biggest milestones so far is that Melbin has finally been cleared to stop wearing his cone, a change that has made this active young cat very happy. While this is an important step forward, Melbin is not out of the woods yet. He still requires ongoing monitoring and follow up care to ensure his eye continues healing properly and that no complications arise as he recovers from his surgery. His medical team will continue to watch his progress closely in the weeks ahead. Now that the cone is gone, Melbin’s personality is shining brighter than ever. He is thrilled to have a little more freedom and is making up for lost time with plenty of exploring, playing, and seeking attention from his foster family. Through every stage of this difficult journey, he has remained a loving, affectionate cat who wins over everyone he meets. Melbin has already undergone extensive specialty care, including emergency ophthalmology treatment, advanced diagnostics, cardiology evaluation, surgery, medications, and multiple follow-up appointments. While we are incredibly grateful for the progress he has made, the costs associated with his treatment and recovery continue to add up. Your support is what made this lifesaving care possible. If you are able to donate or share Melbin’s fundraiser, please consider helping us continue to cover the expenses of his specialty treatment and ongoing recovery. Every contribution helps ensure that Melbin can receive the care he needs as he continues healing and moves closer to the bright future he deserves. Thank you for being part of Melbin’s journey. We look forward to sharing more updates as he continues making progress. 8/10/26 Update We have some happy news to share: Melbin is thriving! After everything this young cat went through, it is hard to believe how different he looks today. The shy, fearful stray who arrived at NYC ACC with a devastating eye injury is now recovering happily in his foster to adopt home. He is playing, climbing, exploring, cuddling, and doing all the things a normal two year old cat should be doing. Most importantly, his eye is healing well, and he is no longer living in the constant pain and danger that brought him into our rescue. We are still watching him carefully to make sure his exuberance doesn’t cause any damage to his eye, but his veterinary team is very encouraged by his progress and tells us that he is on the right path toward a full recovery. W hile we are deeply grateful that Melbin's medical crisis is behind him, there is still one important part of his story left: the bill. It turns out this handsome boy is not a cheap date. Melbin's specialty medical care ultimately cost nearly $8,000, including emergency ophthalmology care, diagnostics, cardiology evaluation, surgery, medications, and follow-up treatment. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, we have raised approximately $1,800 through Waggle. That means NY Cat Warriors is still responsible for a substantial portion of the cost of saving Melbin's eye. So today, we're asking for help not because Melbin is still in crisis but because he made it through. Every donation helps us cover the medical care that gave this sweet cat the chance to become the happy, affectionate companion he is today. If you donated earlier in Melbin's journey, thank you. You helped make this outcome possible. And if you haven't had a chance to contribute yet, it's not too late to be part of his happy ending. Please consider donating or sharing Melbin's campaign. From a painful eye injury and an urgent rescue plea to a happy cat lounging, playing, and cuddling in his foster to adopt home. This is what your support made possible.
