Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
* Stop the Suffering * Josie is a 3-year-old English Bulldog with a heart of gold that's in a delicate condition. Josie is looking for someone to willing to invest in her well being so her life is healthy. Josie has a heart arrhythmia that is better, but needs regular meds. She also requires seizure meds. Adopters should anticipate covering $200.00 a month on average for her medications for the foreseeable future. Josie recently had a cardiology evaluation that show she is no longer a surgery risk so she is finally being spayed and will also undergo surgery on an ulcerated eye. Josie is otherwise healthy and a very well behaved girl who loves to roam around in the yard. She is potty trained and crate trained. Her care has primarily been managed at the Cheshire Animal Hospital. She walks well on and off leash. Josie does well with other dogs, loves car rides, humans, being petted. Josie's quirks: people with hats make her nervous, loud noises like a vacuum cleaner make her run to another room, and she loves to shred trash bags if you shake them around her. She is an absolute joy in her foster home! We are a non-profit rescue group. We rescued Josie from a family who could not afford her care. As stated, she has had several consults and procedures in our care. Her medication averages at least $200 per month.

Flossie
Flossie is a 12 year old Labrador Retriever in Columbus, OH, who needs $2,000 for Extensive Dental Surgery, Mass Removal, and Meds.
Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
Flossie came to STS after being left at a rural shelter when her elderly owner was hospitalized with a poor prognosis. She is best guess a 12 year old yellow lab and although loved, hasn’t had the best care. This sweet senior hadn’t seen a vet or been bathed for 7 years. She has many physical needs about which we are still learning. Flossie is a sweet dog, with everything imaginable medically: She has cataracts, horrible dental disease, multiple subQ and dermal masses, red, inflamed infected skin on the back half of her body, ear infection, and probably the worst joint disease that we have ever seen. She was covered in fleas. She is being treated at the Animal Care Center of Polaris in Lewis Center, Ohio. Flossie' elbows were so thickened: could barely bend them and her shoulders have very limited range of motion. Same with hips and knees. There is muscle atrophy as well. Flossie started on Librela injections, carprofen and amantadine, & joint support. She is also on 2 antibiotics for skin infection & kennel cough. But she LOVES her foster home and 2 canine siblings & will cuddle with them. We are a non-profit animal rescue organization. We intake numerous senior & medical cases from rural Ohio, KY and WV shelters. We also intake from puppy mills. Many of our population have serious veterinary needs like Flossie. With lots of care, Flossie will thrive.

Figgy
Figgy is a 4-month-old Cava-Poo in Columbus, OH, who needs $2,000 for Surgery for Humerus Lat Condylar Fracture.
Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
Our rescue group rescued Figgy from a puppy mill who no longer had a need for him or his siblings. When he was seen at our veterinarian for intake, it was determined that he had a broken elbow. He was immediately placed in his foster home where he has been getting much needed TLC. Figgy absolutely loves everyone. Despite the pain of his broken bone, he still wanted to play and be totally social. He loves his crate, loves to eat and has learned at this young age to keep his crate clean. A bit of a comedian, Figgy seemed to relish be dressed in his early Halloween outfit, "Figgy the Piggy" as pictured. Figgy is fun-loving and so far has had no glaring issues from his time at the puppy mill. He absolutely loves his people and adores other dogs. He loves to cuddle and has the cutest little turn of his head when the camera is around! Figgy, as stated, came from a Puppy Mill. At veterinary intake he was diagnosed with an elbow fracture, then seen at a specialty vet for further evaluation. His diagnosis was humerus Lat Condylar Fracture. We are an animal rescue group in Ohio. We have many pets in need in the area we serve (rural Ohio, KY and WV) and several puppy mills. Lately we have had more medical cases than ever. At the same time as Figgy we dealt with two other difficult and expensive medical cases.

Wilhelmna
Wilhelmna is a 6-year-old Pomeranian in Columbus, OH, who needs $2,000 for Femoral Head and Neck Ostectomy.
Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
Wilhelmina, Willy for short, may be one of the most deserving dogs around. Willy came to us this summer from a very rural shelter. She was nothing but big wiggles, kisses, and kindness. You would have NEVER known she was suffering from a shattered hip (ball joint shattered) consistent with being kicked. She also had cherry eye and tested positive for 3 tickborne diseases. All of Willy's ailments described above had to wait just a little longer because she was also very pregnant! Willy gave birth to 8 babies. Despite her own issues Willy waited patiently, taking care of her babies with love and giving it her "all". Willy absolutely loves everyone in the family including the 2 family dogs. Willy had to be in incredible pain. But wanting to be a good mom and with stoicism, no one would ever know how much pain she endured. She was nurturing, sweet with everyone and of course would wiggle and be cute as can be just to lie on her back and get her treasured tummy rubs. We wanted to get Willy's surgery completed as soon as possible. She weaned her babies and then was treated with doxycycline and not until meds were completed could she have surgery. Willy just had surgery at VCA Sawmill in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Tod Beckett performed the surgery. She had an FHO, was spayed, had her cherry eye fixed. We just could not wait any longer. We are a rescue group, in Ohio. The pressing need to intake is always there but has been far worse this past year. So many of our pet population has had medical issues. At the same time as Willy's need, we faced and completed a surgery of a higher cost.

Boogie
Boogie is a two-year-old Labrador mix in Columbus, OH, who needs $2,000 for leg surgery.
Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
Boogie is so happy and full of love he doesn't know his legs look a bit different than other Labradors. Stop the Suffering rescue calls him an amazing and resilient boy. "He was abandoned by his owner. Most likely because his front legs have a deformity," Lynne A., with the rescue, tells Waggle. The rescue brought Boogie to Met Vet Columbus. The orthopedic team found Boogie has angular limb deformity, where his ulna and radius didn't grow at the same rate they were supposed to. Now the nonprofit group wants to get Boogie's legs fixed, and they need a lot of financial help! "Angular limb deformity is treatable with surgery," Lynne says. "Without it, Boogie will have constant pain and weakening in his limbs. It is a difficult and complex surgery; however, according to the specialists, Boogie is healthy and can tolerate this." Not having the surgery is heartbreaking to the rescue, who says Boogie is full of love and has a zest for life in that way only Labradors do! "You wouldn't know that he has a disability because he loves to play," Lynne adds. "His tail never stops wagging, and he offers up non-stop kisses and belly rubs. He is a wonderful boy and will make a family very happy. Boogie is one of many who deserves to live out his best life."

Maggie
Maggie is a five-month-old Shi Tzu in Columbus, OH, who needs $2,000 for urgent care.
Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
Maggie was one of a dozen puppies Stop the Suffering rescue saved from an Ohio puppy mill. "Puppy mills are rampant in our state," Lynne A., with the rescue, tells Waggle. "They are dog breeding facilities that produce puppies for profit, with no real interest in the needs of the babies or their moms." Maggie was terribly dehydrated and needed to be hospitalized. She then became extraordinarily lethargic and declined rapidly. She could no longer respond or open her eyes. The team at Med Vet Columbus suspects she has a brain lesion. Then a miracle happened, and Maggie stabilized. She's being closely monitored and is finally back with her foster mom, who loves her very much. All Maggie's tests, scans, and time in the hospital rang up a hefty tab for the rescue. "This was a huge expense for a nonprofit rescue group," Lynne says. "We knew Maggie was a fighter and deserved the chance to live her best life. She is a happy and spunky little girl. Maggie's foster mom is entirely devoted to her." Please give and help the rescue fight for Maggie and other puppy mill pups!

Gus
Gus is an eight-week-old Pug mix puppy in Columbus, OH, who needs $1,080 for treatment of pneumonia.
Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
Gus is defying the odds, and he needs your help! He's hospitalized with aspiration pneumonia, and his rescuers at Stop the Suffering are doing all they can to keep him going. "Aspiration pneumonia for a puppy this size does not generally have great results. Gus is being treated by a team of professionals at Med Vet," Lynne A., with the group, tells Waggle. "The treatment has involved two full days on a ventilator and now high-flow oxygen through a nasal tube. We are hopeful he has no setbacks, and the plan is to move him to the oxygen chamber next." Puppy Gus is one of six puppies born in the rescue's care when they saved a pregnant mother dog left at a rural shelter on Christmas. "Gus lives with canine siblings in his foster home," Lynne says. "He is a very spunky and alert puppy. He loves to play, loves to be held, and is always in a super happy mood. Gus's foster mom is really in love with him and hopefully will be adopting him since he fits in so well at her home. Gus loves his crate and everything about life as a puppy." Now the rescue is widely trying to raise money to pay for all of Gus's emergency, life-saving care. "We are an all-breed rescue and go to the ends of the earth for our charges," Lynne says. "We are all praying for little Gus. It will mean the world to his foster home and to us to have him healthy after everything he has survived."
Louise
Louise is a five-year-old Shih Tzu in Columbus, OH, who needs $2,000 for urgent surgery.
Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
Before Stop the Suffering animal rescue saved Louise; she lived an agonizing life. "Louise spent her life in a puppy mill having litter after litter," Lynne A., with Stop the Suffering, tells Waggle. "Recently, when her litters were not good enough, she was taken to a vet to be euthanized. The vet, knowing Louise had much life and joy to give, contacted our rescue group." Louise was very sick. All the years of breeding culminated in a severe and life-threatening case of pyometra, a terrible infection in her uterus, and needed emergency surgery. "It was so intense that specialty intervention and hospitalization was needed," Lynne says. "Louise was hospitalized at MedVet in Columbus, Ohio. A veterinary surgeon, Dr. Kevin Benjamino, performed a miracle handling her needs. She had a long, intense period of care but survived." What has amazed everyone is despite all Louise has been through, she still has such a positive outlook on life. "Louise was entirely trusting, loving, and strong. Louise remained the ultimate trooper, loving the support from her foster family," Lynne adds. The rescue is astonished. They've saved dogs from puppy mills before and never seen one adjust so well. "Louise is the most incredible little girl. Despite her horrible life, she came to her foster home, and unlike many dogs who lived similar lives, she showed trust, overcame fears, and eventually melted with much-needed attention. She loves to cuddle and loves warm, comfy spaces. She does great with her foster siblings. Her foster mom anticipated sadness and lots of fear, but Louise overcame that quickly," Lynne says. The rescue spent about $7,000 on Louise's care. The group has now launched significant fundraising efforts to pay her bill. They are hoping this holiday season you will give to make sure Louise's new year is happy and bright!

Lola
Lola is an eight-year-old Border Collie in Columbus, OH, who needs $2,000 for urgent care.
Columbus, OH • Stop the Suffering
Lola narrowly escaped death! She was found stuck in a creek in rural Kentucky and could not get out because she is blind. Luckily someone called a local animal shelter and staffers went out and saved her. Then the shelter contacted Stop the Suffering rescue. The group took Lola in immediately. "The shelter said, 'Oh please take this dog, she is breaking our hearts,'" Lynne A., with the rescue, tells Waggle. "I was like, 'How the hell did she get in a creek? Who put her there?' I had so many questions." And soon after Lola was saved, it was clear she needed urgent medical care. "The condition that she was found in made rescuers cry," Lynne says. "This sweet, submissive Border Collie mix was picked up with her eyes bulging out of their sockets. She was matted and covered in feces. It was clear that she had not received love in a very long time. She was very traumatized by her situation." Veterinarians found Lola was not only blind, but she also had diabetes, heartworms, and severe hookworms. The rescue is raising money to pay for all her care and bringing Lola to a specialist to see if anything can improve her vision. "It's difficult to imagine what she has been through, but we do know that it's all behind her. A nice warm bed and love will be all she knows from here on out," Lynne says. Stop the Suffering rescue says their main goal is not to be needed one day, not get pleas of help for abandoned and neglected animals daily. Until that day arrives, they are fighting what seems like a never-ending battle. They depend on donations to help dogs like Lola. They hope you will give to her campaign so she can get the much-needed treatment she requires. "We take a lot of special needs dogs, and we love seniors," Lynne adds. "We always need extra funding to care for the special needs pets we take. We cannot wait for Lola's restored health and placement into a forever home."

Click the blue donate button and choose the Monthly Donation option. * Floyd came to Stop the Suffering animal rescue in pain and agony. "He was found as a stray and ended up at a very caring shelter who contacted our rescue for help," Lynne A., with the group, tells Waggle. "Floyd was either attacked by animals or beaten with something like a shovel. He is covered in wounds. He's been abused; his body and legs were bleeding from bullets. He is very thin under his fluffy fur. He's had the worst life I could imagine." His eyes and general condition tell his sad story. Floyd had a fever and a significant infection from his wounds. A bath was impossible due to his many skin lesions; he needs extensive medical care but is expected to eventually heal with all the TLC he's getting at the Animal Medical Center of Gahanna. Although the rescue does not know his past, the severe weight loss, gunshot wounds, bites, and skin infections suggest he was on his own, trying to defend himself for months. Despite everything, he still loves people and craves being near them. "He is so forgiving. You think he'd be afraid of people. He only wants love. He will sit on your lap," Lynne adds. The rescue takes in numerous sick and injured pets. Floyd's recovery, both physically and emotionally, will be long. The rescue depends on donations to survive and hopes you will contribute to help Floyd live happily ever after. "Thank you," Lynne says. "Everything that's done for him is going to change his life!"
