We drove several hours to pull 3 dogs from a shelter after they put out an SOS needing help because they were full. While there we also pulled Bentley because he was declining in the shelter. He had been there for months and was starting to lose weight and didn't seem to be interested in anything let alone food. So, we added him to our transport to see if we could make his life better. Bentley is now in a foster home, trying to sleep in tiny dog beds rather than the large ones. It must make him feel better. He is no longer sleeping on the concrete in a shelter. He gets along with all his fur siblings in the foster home. He is gentle, quiet and acts very grateful to be out of the shelter. Bentley ended up in the shelter from a hoarding situation. Since we pulled him from the shelter, he has been such a happy boy. He no longer looks depressed. He is learning what treats and toys are all about. He makes us so happy now to see him enjoying a dog bed and having a look of relief rather than worry. We immediately took him to our vet. Lab work confirmed several medical issues. He is Lyme positive, heartworm positive, was full of whip and hookworms and underweight. He was started on a medical treatment plan to get him feeling better. He then had some GI issues. He has an enlarged prostate. He will be weaned off Prednisone to be neutered and then restart treatments. We are a 501c3 with 100% volunteers. We rely on donations. All animals are in foster homes so we have minimal overhead. Donations go directly to animal care instead of utilities and building maintenance.

Maria

Maria is a one-year-old Malinois in St. Clairsville, OH, who needs $2,000 for urgent care.

Maria was dealt a terrible blow. Three of her legs and her tail were somehow crushed. Now she's hobbling in casts as The Road Home Animal Project gets her top-notch care. "She has been sedated numerous times for procedures to remove bone fragments and increase blood flow to the left front and right rear leg. The swelling and vessel injuries were extreme. She is doing better but not out of the woods," the rescue tells Waggle. The rescue needs your help to get Maria back on all four paws again! The group relies on donations and fundraisers to help the animals they save. They are 100% volunteer and foster-based. They do not have facility expenses, so all money goes to the animals. What has impressed everyone is despite her severe injuries, Maria has such a tenuous, fighting, spunky spirit. "This pup is such a pleasant sweetheart, and she is such a fighter that she deserves every chance at a great future," the rescue says. "She is a trooper, and you can't help but smile when she looks at you with her beautiful eyes. Even with broken bones, she is the most pleasant pup and gives kisses and will fall asleep upside down in your arms."

Click the blue donate button and choose the Monthly Donation option.* Sir Don was so sick he was on the verge of death. His owner faced the bleak option of euthanizing the puppy because he could not afford his medical care. That's when the Road Home Animal Project heard about Sir Don. "Sir Don was brought into our vet's office, which was closed. We just happened to be there when the owner showed up with a puppy that had a blood sugar level that didn’t even register because it was so low. He was also hypothermic with a temp of 93 degrees. (A dog's normal temp is 101 to 102.5) The owner surrendered because he could not care for the pup," the rescue tells Waggle. The organization says the owner told them, "This pup was from a very rural area, and all of the puppies die at his place." The group admitted the dying puppy to New Horizon Animal Hospital. The medical team believes he may be suffering from distemper. A very deadly virus. "Sir Don is just now starting to have enough energy to lay and squeak a toy the vet just gave him," the rescue group says. "He will cry and whine and bark at the vet staff so they will pay attention to him. He wants the staff to pick him up and hold him but still being in isolation means he cannot be held the way they would like." He is the only puppy who survived in his litter. "He is improving and gradually was able to sit up after days of being too weak even to lift his head. He has finally started to eat, and we shared the video of his first bites of chicken after days and days of being in the ICU isolation unit at our vet's office," the rescue adds. The rescue has rung up a huge bill trying to save Sir Don's life with round-the-clock care and hospitalization. Fighting economic euthanasia is Waggle's mission, and we're all hoping you can support it too by giving to this sweet pup's campaign. "Sir Don's owner was not financially able to cover costs for his medical care," the rescue says. "He was unselfish and avoided euthanasia. He signed Sir Don over to us so he would have a chance at possibly saving his life."
