Hello! This is Sephora, she is 4yrs old.. & I have had her since she was 8 weeks old! A week after I lost my cousin she was born November 8th 2020. From a family friends litter of kittens. Her and now my 3 yr old son share the same birth-date but a year apart.. She is very loved by us all. She was given her name due to her colors & beauty, some may know of the makeup brand SEPHORA. She’s my beauty Sephora is at the vets schedule to get surgery today 02/03/2025.. she was an unspayed female & got an infection which has lead to her surgery, a Pyometra Surgery. Jarrettsville Veterinary Center is taking great care of her and been extremely helpful regardless of me not having the funds to support her the way she needs.. I’m hoping to raise the 1,500 I need to pay my due to them. She is my world She is extremely special to me due to the timing I got her to everything she has shown and given to me over the years.. She is so lovable, she will greet me at the door every time I get home. At night ever since she was a kitten she has slept on my head on my pillow. She has her kitty sisters that one she acts like she’s her mama always licking and rubbing on her. She really is the best cat. This was a very unexpected financial burden that I was unaware of & not prepared for at all. She means everything to me, and getting the financial help to help her would mean the world to see her strive on in her life. I can’t imagine my days and nights without her..

A Holiday of Hope: Mistletoe Magic for a Courageous Soul

The resilience of an animal is always something to admire; but when it comes to Mistletoe, it's downright unbelievable. She’s just a puppy—only 6 to 8 months old, if that—and yet, has already endured so much. She was found cowering underneath a trailer in a heartbreaking condition: abandoned with an embedded collar around her neck, riddled with infections, and struggling desperately to survive. Her condition isn’t something that happens overnight. She's wounded, she's missing patches of fur due to the mites, fleas, and untreated Mange that were ravaging her skin. She's dehydrated and dangerously malnourished. Her belly was tender and sore. She was nothing but skin and bone, with her paws swollen and infected to the point they were oozing discharge. And to top it all off, she was also severely anemic and needed a blood transfusion upon getting to the ER. Unfortunately, this precious girl will be recovering for some time: Physical conditions like Mistletoe’s require weeks, even months, of extensive care. Her blood work has been concerning—though there are signs of improvement, she is far from out of the woods. Mistletoe's still fighting secondary infections, and her blood work results continue to raise red flags for neurological risks. And even beyond this, her emotional recovery will take not only months, but also lots of careful love, some sleepless nights, and most of all, worlds of patience. But Mistletoe deserves the world—and after all that she's been through, rescuers at ThisIsHouston are committed to making sure she gets nothing but the best for her future. This precious girl is just barely beginning her road to recovery, and she needs an army of help to heal: help from her rescuers; help from her specialty doctors; and help from all of you. Every penny matters, and will go a long way in supporting this resilient, deserving girl. Thank you for your kindness and support! Update 12/17/24: Mistletoe turned quite urgent. ThisIsHouston went to visit her this evening, and they noticed she was cheek puffing (breathing through her mouth with her cheeks puffing up). When ThisIsHouston got back home, the vet called them with an update that Mistletoe's on oxygen now. They took some x-rays which show she has congestive heart failure, likely from fluid overload or a complication due to refeeding syndrome. While ThisisHouston doesn't know what this means for her yet, they're not giving up on her! Update 12/18/24: Mistletoe has made improvements overnight and is off oxygen already. The hospital is anticipating she’ll require at least FOUR more days of care to ensure she reaches an adequate daily nutritional intake. ThisIsHouston transferred Mistletoe to another animal hospital for a second opinion and to help save some costs. It’s been a bumpy road so far with improvements and setbacks but ThisIsHouston is hopeful she’s finally trending in the right direction. Yesterday Mistletoe was put on oxygen and x-rays appeared to suggest she had congestive heart failure. The vet ran an echocardiogram today which showed no major concerns. Some measurements were high, but cardiac therapy is not indicated at this time. Prior to this, she was struggling with anemia levels and needed two blood transfusions. That has resolved. She was severely dehydrated as well, with bone fragments in her stomach. Her dehydration is almost completely resolved and she had a bowel movement yesterday with a bone shard piece in it, so we’re keeping a close eye on that. Her calorie intake is currently at 50% and she’s still tolerating her feedings well. She still has a central catheter placed, a urinary catheter and a feeding tube as well. Update 12/19/24: Mistletoe's labwork has much improved!! She had two blood transfusions since being rescued; her red blood cell count is currently normal and the vet is watching for any changes. She’s back on dextrose support as her blood sugar wasn’t where vet wanted it to be. But she’s eating appropriate amounts and the hope is once she’s eating more consistently, her sugar levels normalize. Update 12/20/24: Mistletoe is discharge ready tonight! Her bloodwork is much improved, blood glucose and sodium levels are normal, and she’s even up and walking. She will continue to need bloodwork rechecks every few days to make sure things are still stable. Mistletoe is headed into a foster home tonight. ThisIsHouston is so excited to start the spoiling 💗 She ran a hefty ER bill between the two hospitals so anything and everything is helpful. Update 12/27/24: Mistletoe had a setback today. Her foster mom noticed she was a little bit weak this morning. She already had a vet check up scheduled for this afternoon and when she went in, they referred her to the ER. The ER vet found her blood sugar was a little low and her esophagus was very dilated. Thankfully her lungs looked clear there was no evidence of any aspiration pneumonia. The vet said sometimes when animals are nauseas, they can get a bad case of reflux, or sometimes heart burn can make the esophagus irritated. He thinks once they figure out what is going on and get her better, the swallowing issues will return to normal. The major concern right now is that her sodium levels are creeping back up and there’s a big risk for neurological issues to develop when sodium levels are high. If it progresses, she could have seizures, so they’re keeping an eye on that. The plan is to keep her on IV fluids, antibiotics, anti-acids for her esophagus, and try to get her to eat. Update 12/30/24: Mistletoe was transferred this morning to an internal medicine specialist for further diagnostics. She's not doing well and looking very rough. She is extremely lethargic and dull. The ER vet worked hard through the weekend to maintain her vitals, but Mistletoe needed to see a specialty hospital for a swallow test and further imaging to figure out why she can’t drink and eat appropriately. Once at the specialist, Mistletoe's blood pressure and temperature dropped and the vet spent the day working to stabilize her. Something was wrong internally and none of the three hospitals she received care at had answers. ThisIsHouston focuses on dogs like Mistletoe and believe in giving them every possible chance to recover, but Mistletoe was rapidly declining today. The specialty hospital believed she was already septic and was also obtunded. ThisIsHouston came together as a team to make the best decision for Mistletoe. She was suffering and there was no end in sight and no answers, so they had to make the decision they always try to avoid. Mistletoe was the sweetest girl. She deserved the world, and ThisIsHouston desperately wanted to give that to her. ThisIsHouston wish she had more time, but made sure Mistletoe knew love and care before she passed. Mabud is a warm, friendly, curious and energetic former street dog from Mexico. Last winter he was adopted by Oja & Joelyn after being hit by a car, and came to Vermont where he has lots of space to go hiking and continue training as a service dog. Mabud loves frolicking in the snow, and adventuring on the local wilderness trails. He has become a beloved family and community member. When Mabud arrived in VT he was having frequent nosebleeds. We thought it was him recovering from being hit by a car. Or maybe a fungal infection. And then in August 2024 we took him to Peak Vet Services in Willison for more evaluation and discovered that he had a tumor in his nose: a type of cancer called TVT. He recently started his Chemo treatment and is recovering steadily. Having lived on the streets of Chiapas for the first year of his life, Mabud is incredibly grateful to have his own family now. He loves to snuggle or go on long walks - either is great! He particularly loves working on his service dog training. He knows many commands and listens carefully and attentively to whatever instruction he is given. His infectious spirit enchants all those he befriends. We borrowed $6000 to cover the cost his initial evaluation & are still paying it off. Now he needs 6 chemo treatments at $640 each. We need help and support in order to complete his treatment. And he has a greater than 90% chance of a full recovery!

Saving Hope Animal Rescue These four innocent, vulnerable dogs were discarded like garbage, abandoned in the most horrific state imaginable—starved to the point where their lives were hanging by a thread. Whoever left them to die had stripped away their dignity, leaving them weak, skeletal, and desperately clinging to life. When Saving Hope Animal Rescue found them, their frail bodies told a story of unimaginable cruelty and neglect. Immediately, Saving Hope Animal Rescue took them in, determined to fight—both for these sweet souls, and for the sad state of animal welfare in Texas. All four dogs were immediately rushed to the vet, where they were given the lowest possible body score of 1 out of 9—an assessment that can only be described as heartbreaking. It means they had no fat and no muscle mass—only bones jutting from their fragile bodies. Ribs, vertebrae, pelvic bones—all painfully visible from a distance. The suffering these four have endured is beyond comprehension. But now, these four dogs have a glimmer of hope. Thanks to Saving Hope Rescue, they are finally safe and in loving hands—but now they need extensive medical testing and care to heal from the horrors they’ve faced. The road to recovery will be long and difficult, but for the first time, they have people fighting for them—people who believe in their strength, their spirit, and their will to live. We took one of the sweet girls for a walk, and the moment she got outside she tripped, fell in the flowers & just laid there soaking it all up. Thank you for all of the support so far!

Jax was Viciously Attacked by Two Dogs, Nearly Crushing His Throat

Gracie's Project Found as a stray, Jax had finally landed in the loving care of Gracie’s Project and was just beginning to thrive in his foster home. But in a matter of moments, his life was torn apart—both literally and figuratively. While playing with his foster in their front yard, this gentle boy’s joy turned into a nightmare. Out of nowhere, two off-leash dogs charged him—unleashing a brutal, unprovoked attack. They latched onto him, their teeth ripping through his body and shredding his throat. And poor Jax, though large, stood no chance against the ferocity of the assault. By the time the attack was broken up, he was left crying out in pain—broken, bloodied, and hanging on by a thread. He was immediately taken to the ER, but his throat savagely torn and on the verge of collapsing—a fatal injury if left untreated. Had it not been for the swift call to action by his foster, he most likely would not have made it. At the ER, his veterinary team worked tirelessly to save him—evaluating the deep, gaping wounds that marred his body. Sadly, his face was grotesquely swollen from the trauma—with several gashes and bites covering Jax’s neck area span inches wide and many others littering the rest of his poor body. Miraculously, Jax survived the initial ordeal. His wounds were cleaned, stitched, and outfitted with surgical drains to prevent fluid buildup. But his battle is far from over. Today, Jax is stable—but there’s no denying it: This attack left him in excruciating pain. His foster family is doing everything they can to keep him comfortable and manage the debilitating pain, as well as careful wound care to prevent infection and help him recover. But every moment is a delicate balance, as his condition remains fragile, with the looming possibility of complications. Jax’s road to recovery will be long and grueling. He faces a future filled with ongoing vet visits, lab work, medication, and at least one more surgery. Yet through it all, Gracie’s Project remains committed to seeing him through to brighter days—and so do we. Please join us to help fight for Jax. On one of the coldest days recently, a kitten’s desperate search for warmth nearly cost him his life. Porsche, a tiny fighter, had climbed into the engine of a running car, unaware of the danger. It wasn’t until the driver heard faint meows while driving that Porsche’s plight was discovered. With the help of the Woodcliff Lake police and a mechanic, Porsche was rescued, but not without injury. His tail had suffered an open fracture during the ordeal. The kind woman who found him tried to nurse him back to health at home but soon realized his injuries needed expert care. Heartbroken, she reached out to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Rescue, explaining, “We have done all we could but can’t afford the medical care he needs. We’re devastated, especially during the holidays.” Porsche arrived at RBARI with most of his tail necrotic, which had shockingly fallen off during a cleaning. He underwent surgery to amputate the remaining portion, and this brave little kitten is now recovering beautifully. Despite everything, Porsche’s playful spirit remains intact—he’s back to chasing toys and nibbling on fingers, bringing joy to everyone around him. Mary Jane (MJ) became my furever family on Dec 21 2012. She has been a constant spit fire in my life and the lives of my children and being recently widowed, am finding it hard to provide the proper care for my best friend. Vet visits alone, are so out of my reach. I'm really struggling with watching her suffer. I am ashamed to admit that I can't even come with even a check up for Mj. Her ear is nearly stabbed shut and she has had an ulcer on her eye for a few months at least. It's bleeding now. It's bad. Beyond bad. We are all so devastated. My kids have been thru a lot and I am about at my wits end. MJ had a litter of 4 puppies when she was 6. I ended up keeping one, in so, the creation of the nick name MawMaw Lady came to be. Maw Maw and Luigi have been very close all through these years. He does his best to clean her ears and lock her face. I can tell he is very devastated as well. I have no one really. No one to share this despairing time with, except for my dogs. They are my family. And it's killing me even more so to watch this happen to that girl, that has been here for me through thick and thin. She is my most trusted confidant. Life will be hard

A Heart-Shaped Mark, A Heartfelt Story: Valentina’s Fight for Health and Comfort

Valentina’s journey has been filled with loss, confusion, and uncertainty. She’s a 12-year-old senior cat who has already faced so much heartache in her life—losing both her owner and her feline companion in just a few short months. Left behind in an empty house with only occasional visits from people to feed her and change her litter box, Valentina’s world became small and lonely. But Valentina’s story isn’t over yet. Paws 4 Life Animal Rescue stepped in when another rescue reached out to them, and were able to bring this sweet senior girl into their care. They named her Valentina because of the beautiful heart-shaped mark on her nose. Valentina was taken to the vet who discovered some troubling signs. Her bloodwork showed that her liver values are off, and she will need an ultrasound to help determine the cause. But the most urgent concern is her eye. Valentina was diagnosed with Glaucoma and Fine Diffuse Iris Melanoma. She has no vision in her left eye and it is extremely painful due to dangerously high eye pressure—64, when it should be under 25. Valentina needs a specialized procedure to address both her eye condition and her liver concerns. The total cost of her care is estimated at $4,000. Please, help us make Valentina’s remaining years filled with comfort and love.

A Tough Start, A Brave Heart: Domino's Fight Through Illness and Abandonment

We were asked to take Domino into our rescue after a social media post was made that his owners abandoned him in an apartment complex with no food or water and the landlord was only giving a couple days to find him a new home:( Domino has had one issue after another since coming into our care in November. First he had explosive diarrhea that took a few weeks to get under control. Then he developed an upper respiratory infection that turned into pneumonia. He was admitted to an ER vet and placed in oxygen and received IV fluids and antibiotics. Additional tests were done and came back for Bordetella, which is VERY in cats Domino was thrown outside when his owners were evicted from an apartment complex. Somehow Domino found his way back to the apartment (his sister is still missing:( The landlord put Domino back in the trashed apartment with no food or water and when we found him, he was eating garbage out of the garbage can:( Despite all this, he is the biggest love and just wants to be around people. We are a very small rescue and have already had so many medical emergencies with cats this year. We are there for these cats when they have been failed by people before us. Domino’s ER visit alone cost $3,241.05 which does not include his previous vet visits.
