Hoarding Case

Castaway Critters was met with another hoarding cat situation. They desperately need you!

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Castaway Critters was recently contacted by a woman who recognized that she needed help and bravely reached out to Castaway Critters for support. First and foremost, they want to thank her for taking the right step. It takes courage to acknowledge that things have gotten out of hand and to ask for help before the situation becomes even worse. After seeing their other recent hoarding situation, she realized she didn't want her own animals to reach that point. She knew it was time to ask for help—and they are here to help both her and her cats. They are currently looking at 35–50 cats living in the home, including both kittens and adults. None of the cats have been spayed or neutered. Their plan is to safely remove and care for all of the cats while also helping the four senior cats she has loved and cared for their entire lives. Once they have been spayed/neutered and received the veterinary care they need, they will return them to her. They will also work with her to provide food and litter while she gets back on her feet. Some may question why they would return the senior cats, but they believe that helping the community is an important part of rescue. These cats are loved, and uprooting four senior animals who have spent their entire lives with their person isn't necessarily the best solution. If they can ensure they are healthy, fed, safe, and loved while helping their owner get back on her feet, that's a win for everyone. ❤️ This will be a massive team effort. They are organizing extraction teams and will move the cats out in phases. Their first phase began with the kittens. The kittens arrived with fleas, upper respiratory infections, worms, and infected eyes. They have all started antibiotics and are already getting cleaned up with a much-needed bath. There are still many more cats waiting, and they know this journey will be long, but it will be worth it. Your support makes it possible for Castaway Critters to keep showing up, one animal and one community at a time. Please remember to be kind. Everyone needs a little help sometimes, and they believe that offering compassion can change lives for both people and animals. Thank you for everything you have done for Castaway Critters and for continuing to stand beside us and them. We appreciate you more than words can say. At the end of the day, we all have the same goal: saving lives.

Check out Reuben's incredible rescue story!

Harrisburg, PA • Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

This little guy was found by a good samaritan at the intersection of Nyes Rd & Locust Ln, hunkered down, scared to death! When the person got out to try to direct traffic and grab this floof ball, he ran up under his engine block! Thankfully, he was able to get pulled over to safety, get him into a box, and then contacted us to see if we were able to get him! Upon initial assessment, Castaway Critters found that: He is not microchipped He is covered in some type of black, sticky substance resembling diesel fuel or tar. He smells horrible. He is extremely friendly and grateful and wants to just eat and calm himself in a safe space! They are treating him for fleas, worms, and ear mites and will be monitoring him during his quarantine. We will be working on getting the sticky out of his fur and giving him a good bath! This is only what they know right now. Upon further examination, they could find more. If you can support this sweet boy's journey back to health and safety, we would greatly appreciate it!
