Maddie

Maddie is a 12 year old Shih Tzu in Eugene, OR, who needs $400 for Dental Cleaning with Extractions.

Eugene, OR

I’ve owned Maddie for 12 years. She’s been with me as long as I’ve been single. She’s my best friend and companion. I’m disabled and she is always by my side even when I’m not feeling well it’s been a hardship, knowing that she needs to have dental work and I possibly could not afford to do so and she might be in pain. That really hurts my heart to know this. Maddie has been going to Community veterinary and Pleasant Hill since I moved back to Oregon nine years ago. They used to be in Eugene but now have moved. Her Dental is needed very badly and I’m afraid she may be in pain and I don’t have the funding to take care of this all by myself. There’s a special kind of hurt when you know your dogs in pain, but you can’t afford to help her. At times I housesit and pet sit for friends through my church and my dog is such a trooper. She is good with all the dogs that I ever bring her around. She has a very mild temper has never chewed anything up in the home and is just the best dog I’ve ever owned in my life. I am single and she does have a cat sister that she loves. I am a divorced 63 year old that is on disability. My family is strap for money and unable to help me at this time also. Maddie’s health is my highest priority at this time. Having her teeth clean, would mean a lot to me so I know she’s not in pain.

Hank

Hank is a 10 year old Mix-Breed in Springfield, OR, who needs $400 for Dental Surgery, Mass Removal, Anesthesia Induction.

Springfield, OR

Hank belonged to my partner of 11 years and has been in my life since he was a pup. My partner enjoyed taking him to the river and out in nature so they could play together. My partner died in Jan. 2023 and I promised to care for Hank. I am a single woman working minimum wage at 35 hours week and pay all the bills by myself now. Hank is my companion animal since losing my partner. In March of 2024 Hank developed a lump on his leg that continued to swell and grow. He was seen in urgent care and given pain pills and antibiotics. They also noticed an infected molar at that time. The recommendations are "mass removal" and "dental surgery" at the same time. An estimate has been provided for the Community Vet Center. He is my companion animal since my partner passed away, he goes everywhere with me, I live alone in trailer park and he helps me feel safe and comfortable. He's family to me. I always tell him, he's the baby, I take care of him. My partner used to pay the rent and I would pay the rest of the bills and now I have to pay all, everything. It's difficult to make ends meet and come up with the money to pay for Hanks medical expenses. To me, Its a big deal for Hank to stay healthy. Hank is my best friend.

Photo of Jinx

Jinx

Jinx is a 13-year-old Domestic Shorthair in Springfield, OR, who needs $688 for dental treatment and a biopsy.

Springfield, OR

I got Jinx at 8 weeks old, as a 21st birthday present to myself. I wanted a young kitten so that she would bond with me to be my support kitty. Jinx turned out to be just the best emotional support animal through my journey with debilitating Crohn's disease. We've been together for almost her whole life. She is now 13, and it is my turn to take care of her. For over 10 years, Jinx has provided me with support- reminding me to take my medicine (and feed her) and comforting me when I was in pain or stuck in the toilet with GI symptoms. Jinx sleeps next to me or at my feet, and she absolutely loves mealtimes. Her favorite fun activity is to explore the backyard. Back when we had visitors, Jinx was a curious and would say hello and get a few pets. I live on a limited disability income because of my Crohn's disease. I had an account of savings for Jinx from when I was working, but the previous failed treatments have drained Jinx's funds. Right now, I am just anxious for answers. Jinx has had a mouth sore now for over a year, and all the non-surgical treatments have failed- antibiotics, steroids, prescription food, etc. Dr. Amber Roegner at the Community Veterinary Center was initially opposed to surgery, but we have exhausted all of our options. She recommends a dental procedure with a biopsy to gain more details about what is going on with Jinx. Jinx loves food so much. As she got older, her patience grew thin and she began to beg for food all day long. I started setting an alarm to mark her meals. Soon Jinx was imitating the "quack, quack, quack" of the alarm. It's truly hilarious and remarkably accurate. Jinx also jiggles her tail straight up in the air whenever she gets excited. It is so funny and adorable.
