Max

Max is a 6 year old Mix-Breed in Hastings, MI, who needs $2,000 for Oral Surgery (tumor, teeth, & jaw bone removal).

Hastings, MI

6 years ago my husband left to get a radiator for one of our vehicles and came home with this beautiful boy instead. This boy captived the hearts of us all in the first meeting. Our youngest daughter is HIS human and much as he is HER baby. He knew I was pregnant before I did, he didn't leave my side my entire pregnancy, as my daughter just celebrated her 5th birthday, their bond is unbreakable. Our boy has an aggressive form of cancer growing out of his mouth. It is growing quickly. He needs a specialist because of how aggressive the tumor is. We are looking at a very large bill, and the bigger the tumor gets, the bigger the bill will likely get. He has another on his leg, but his body films were clear so once this tumor get removed we are hoping for full recover 🙏 Max is my daughters safe haven. Wherever she is he is and it's been that way since day one. They wake together, go to sleep together, play together, and even share meals. He is a howler. Each time we get home, we get "I love you" howls for the first 15 minutes. He trots and cannot wag his tail normally, he has a helicopter tail that spins, not wags! He is an 80 lb snuggler, and loves to spoon! This was an unexpected expense that we were not planning for. We had scheduled surgery for Max at his regular vet, but in the two weeks between consult appointment and surgery day the tumor had grown so much that we were sent home with specialist recommendations instead.

Gigi

Gigi is a 8 year old Mix-Breed in Grand Rapids, MI, who needs $1,300 for Surgical Repair of Fracture.

Grand Rapids, MI

Gigi walked up to Jose screaming in the middle of the night in 2017. We brought him in and he has been with us ever since. His name is Hades, but because he resembles the Studio Ghibli cat “Gigi”, that has been his nickname for the past six years or so, it’s the name he now goes by. Gigi gets along with everyone in the house but he does have a cat nemesis called Loki. Gigi is at Harborfront Hospital for Animals in Spring Lake, MI. On 06/23 he suffered what was diagnosed by emergency vets as a fractured jaw. They also thought it was dislocated. The emergency vet was unable to reform the procedure, so Harborfront was recommended for surgical repair. Gigi is hilarious. He brings so much joy to the house, and loves having a long conversation (or argument) with any human that will entertain him. A bit of a stalker, Gigi thinks it’s his duty to escort his mom to & from the bathroom. He takes it seriously. He is a sweet, cuddly boy that loves to bury his face into your armpit. Though he also has a spicy side and you have to earn his trust first! I lost my job recently. Then, my 16 year old dog went to the emergency vet as well. This visit was less than a month ago, and wiped out our savings, though our boy still had to be euthanized in the end. We were not expecting another pet emergency so soon after that visit.

Photo of Sassafras (Sassy) Mae

Sassafras (Sassy) Mae

Sassafras (Sassy) Mae is a 12-year-old Bichon Frise in Norton Shores, MI, who needs $278 for Diagnosis and Testing

Norton Shores, MI

My husband and I first began fostering Sassy last October, 2021, when her owner entered the hospital for critical care. The plan was for Sassy to join her later at a nursing home. Unfortunately Sassy's owner passed and nobody in her family was able to take her. We had already bonded with her so we were beyond happy to accept Sassy into our family permanently. She has been such a blessing to us. Sassy, when feeling well, is very lively and loves to play. She likes to go for walks in our neighborhood. She likes to sleep near my head on a pillow each night and on the couch for day naps. She follows me everywhere and has separation anxiety when I have to leave for doctor's appointments or other needs. She is very communicative when she wants or needs something, by coming to me or by whining I am a paraplegic, and use a wheelchair for 100% of my mobility. Sassy, from day one has done awesome walking beside me. My wheelchair has never been a hinderance for us bonding. I empathize with her having lost her owner and all that is familiar to her, as I lost my ability to walk and my father at a young age. There is something between us that clicked right away. She is my little guardian angel Due to our financial situation we have not been able to afford a vet visit/testing to find out what is wrong with Sassy. She started acting lethargic, andhad a couple dizzy spells. I started only feeding her plain beef and small amounts of beef liver each day. Since then she has not had a dizzy spell, but continues to be lethargic, have black stools, and has started trying to eat dirt. My husband's job ended, the owner sold the business. I recently have had more health issues. Things have been very tight. Sassy brings us so much joy, love and calmness. I hope if possible to repay her so she can live her best life for however long she might have.
