Six Toes

Six Toes' Teeth are Rotting!

Fairfax, VA • Homeward Trails Animal Rescue

Six Toes has spent far too much of her life without a place to truly call home. She bounced from home to home before finally making her way to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. Through all that uncertainty and change, she never stopped being the sweet, loving cat she is. She still trusts. She still wants affection. And she’s still holding out hope that somewhere out there is a family who will finally choose her forever. But right now, Six Toes is hurting. At least three of her teeth are in terrible condition and need to be extracted as soon as possible. Imagine being hungry, walking up to your food bowl, and knowing that every bite could hurt. Six Toes can’t tell us how much pain she’s in. She can’t ask us to make it stop. She simply keeps going. We don’t want her to have to keep living like this. Dental disease isn’t just uncomfortable, it can cause significant pain, infection, and worsening health if left untreated. Six Toes desperately needs a dental procedure to remove the painful teeth and give her the relief she deserves. She has already endured enough uncertainty in her life. She shouldn’t have to endure preventable pain, too. Please donate to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue today and help us get Six Toes the dental care she needs. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings her one step closer to eating without pain, feeling like herself again, and being ready for the loving home she has waited so long to find. Six Toes can’t ask for help herself, so we’re asking for her. Please help us take away her pain.

Kingston is a 11 year old Yorkshire Terrier in Henrico, VA, who needs $1,700 for Dental Procedure- Extractions and Full Dental X-Ray.

Henrico, VA

Kingston Denzel Carletto Brown: 10lbs of sass & love. Got him as a puppy—chewed everything, judged harder. Now 10, he’s a grumpy old man who still cuddles when I cry. His corgi ‘sister’ Juniper bosses him, but he lets her think she’s in charge. Tiny body, giant heart. Kingston is fighting hard at myVCA in Henrico, VA. This brave warrior needs URGENT dental extractions - but still defends me from evil vacuums and judges late dinners. Through his pain, his love never wavers. Every tail wag proves the biggest hearts come in the smallest packages. ❤️🐾 Kingston rules our home with quiet wisdom. When Luna the corgi arrived, barking orders, he tolerated her antics like a patient big brother—letting her ‘win’ playfights but issuing a grumpy growl when she oversteps. Through it all, he remains my steady companion, teaching us about loyalty, patience, and unconditional love. ❤️🐾 Kingston has been my emotional support since I was 16. Now with rent, mental health issues,my medical bills, and being denied by ScratchPay/CareCredit, I'm terrified I can't afford his dental care. This little hero saved me - please help save his health.

Crystal

Crystal is a 9 year old Japanese Spitz in Richmond , VA, who needs $785 for Pyometra.

Richmond, VA

Hello everyone, I wanted a unique animal and I researched several private breeders in the area and I came across a dog called a Japanese spitz. So I started doing my own research and was told the breed was friendly, energetic and smart. So I started my hunt for her. She was found in Clarksville TN around Thanksgiving time in 2014. I fell in love with her immediately and knew she was perfect! Crystal was diagnosed with Pyometra and hasn’t been sick a day in her life! How can this be happening to her and my family.I am so attached and mentally not coping well with her diagnosis. She won’t eat but drinks water. She has no energy at all and just stares at me and I can’t do anything for her. She means so much too me and I am so exhausted searching for Financial help. I feel defeated. 😞 Crystal loves bones, balls and any squishy toys. She loves standing on her hind legs and walking when ready for a treat. She likes shaking her paw at everyone, so you can hold her hand. I’m a single parent with no emergency fund set aside and would truly appreciate the help. This is definitely a wake up call on how important it is to save for emergency. If I could get this help I would definitely donate what I could to organizations like this.

Willow

Willow is a 1-year-old Short Hair Domestic Tabby Cat in Ivor, VA, who needs $755 for Amputation.

Ivor, VA

My 16 year old brought Willow home a year ago saving him from going to the pound. The rest of his litter was taken to the pound the very next day. We have had him neutered and had a hernia repaired. Willow is absolutely an important part of our family. He loves to sleep in our beds. His favorite toy is a cat tunnel he got for Christmas. He also enjoys playing with his other cat toys (balls, toy mice, ect.) We live in the country and He does an excellent job keeping our house mouse free. Willow is such a sweet boy. He is very loving and playful. He loves to jump out of nowhere and scare us. You can almost see him laugh when he is successful. When we are sad or upset Willow is right there to give us love and help us feel better. He is the best cat we have ever had. Willow was accidentally let outside and was gone 4 days. When he came home he had a severe limp unable to put weight on his back right leg. We took him to The Oaks Veterinary Clinic and found out he has a severe compound fracture that requires his leg to be amputated. The amputation will be done by Helping Hands and will cost $755. I had to have back surgery 3 years ago and have been unable to work since. We are on a very fixed income and have little to nothing after the bills are paid. We love Willow so much! It would mean the world to us to get him the he needs.

Lexi

Lexi is a 3-year-old Lab Mix in North Chesterfield , VA, who needs $1,500 for Mass Removal.

North Chesterfield, VA

I found this sweet girl on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere. She was so skinny. You could tell she had been abused. She was scared but somehow trusted me to keep her safe. I brought her home. Gave her a bath and started the process of trying to get her to trust me. Three years later, she is a very much loved, spoiled girl. She has really taken to my grandson, Michael. He's on the autistic spectrum and I think she knows he's a little different. Over the years she has really come out of her shell. You can still see little things that still affect her from before she came into our lives. She's such a silly girl. She loves to run laps around the yard. She does this thing with her paw where she reaches out and taps you when she wants pets or attention. But it's the unconditional love she gives us even though someone hurt her in the past. I noticed a small lump under her chin a few months back. It would shrink but come back. Then shrink again. This time however, it didn't shrink. It continued to grow into this larg mass. I finally had to take her to Banfield Pet hospital. They told me they think it's a cancerous growth and needs to be removed. If I can't provide surgery, I should euthanize her because of where it is. I lost my job back in March. I'm the sole provider for my grandson, whom I'm raising. I've been doing Gig jobs to pay the bills but that doesn't leave anything extra. We don't want to have to put her down. She is a member of our family. We just want her healthy again.

Dallas is a 11-year-old Australian Shepherd in Mount Holly Springs , PA, who needs $1,400 for Right CCL Repair.

Mount Holly springs, PA

Dallas is an 11 year old Australian Shepherd. He is in need of CCL surgery for his right knee. He has his left knee done in 2019 at with complete recovery. I would like him to have CCL repair surgery vs being crated for months and then not have 100% use of his leg. It is completely torn and he would have much better recovery with surgery. Any little bit helps. Dallas is the best pup pup ever. We have had his since he was a puppy. He loves being outside. He is extremely friendly and when he gets excited he loves wagging his entire backend. It is quite a site to see. Lol I think it is due to his nubbie tail and he is overcompensating. Haha. He enjoys keeping the household in line especially his two youngest feline brothers Dallas is extremely friendly and when he gets excited he loves wagging his entire backend. It is quite a site to see. Lol I think it is due to his nubbie tail and he is overcompensating. Haha. When people come to the house he likes to make sure you know your presence is known and then he wants to make sure you know he is present. He just wants a hello pat. Dallas was seen by the veterinarian yesterday. He has a completely torn right CCL. He was treated with pain medication and anti-inflammatories. Rather then crates and wait for months for it is build scar tissue and have partial use we would like for him to have CCL repair. The cost of everything has increased but pay has not. We are struggling to keep the house heated this winter. I would love for him to have CCL repair with a complete recovery and not suffer through months of bringing a crate for partial healing.

Boots

Boots is a 14-year-old Domestic Shorthair in Newport News, VA, who needs $325 for dental cleaning, extractions, and bloodwork.

Newport News, VA

Boots is approximately 14 years old and is semi feral. He has lived his whole life outdoors in the elements. Since his last injury as a feral cat, I have taken him into retirement with his sister Luna. They live in my garage together with their own “crates” that remain open so they have free reign of the double car garage. They are living up retirement with heat, air conditioning, heating pads, cooling mats, fans, radio for comfort, unending wet and dry food and lots of snuggles. Well, as much as a semi feral kitty will tolerate. He enjoys his new sliding glass door installed just for them to have kitty TV. The next project an outdoor catio. Boots LOVES his crunchy food. He is very passionate about putting his entire head into the dry food bowl. So much so that I can’t refill it. Such a silly boy. He has finally learned how to play with toys and enjoyed his first experience with catnip. It’s very heartwarming watching these firsts for him as a grown cat. He no longer has to fight to stay alive. Boots has a probable tooth abscess and at least 3 other teeth that need extracted. The abscess is the lower canine tooth that seems to have broken off at the gums. At least 2 other canines have partially splintered off. With him being semi feral it has been hard to assess him to gather enough info to research treatment options. Will be seeking care from Helping Hands in Richmond for extractions. I am caring for 3 feral cats and have my own 2 cats. I feed no less then 20 cats and spay/neuter MANY community cats all out of my own pocket. Boot’s sister needs medication twice daily and monthly labs for her thyroid condition. I am a medical assistant & my husband is a teacher.

Piglet

Piglet is a 2-year-old Staffordshire terrier/American bulldog in Richmond, VA, who needs $600 for Spay/vaccine .

Richmond, VA

Piglet is a rescue who has absolutely changed my life. She is my emotional support pup. We are never separated and I don’t know where I would be without her. I suffer from severe panic disorder, ptsd, and bpd. She is the most gentle and caring doggy I have ever met. With her my anxiety has been extremely reduced and she can tell when her mama isn’t feeling right. She rescued me for sure.. Piglet wants to be friends with everyone, and there’s never enough kisses. She is extremely well behaved and doesn’t leave my side. We spend a lot of time cuddling in bed watching tv and other times getting energy out and playing in the yard. She is by far one of the most well behaved dogs I have ever met. Working for me is extremely hard due to past trauma and especially with the pandemic. The shelter gave me 30 days to get her shots and spayed or I lose her and I can’t imagine life without her... So because of the crisis and my mental health, getting another job has been hard. I am self employed right now so of course I have enough money to feed the both of us and keep a roof over our head. But because she is a rescue she needs to be spayed and get all of her vaccines. Which is fairly costly. Piggy sleeps under the blanket with me for skin to skin touch to make me feel less anxious and protected. She licks my tears, and tilts her head to hear me talk to her. She also absolutely loves when you pat her little butt, she licks the air and I think it’s the funniest thing. She loves me unconditionally.

We found Daisy in the street she was skinny and looked like she hadn't eating in weeks. First we checked if she had a chip inside but she didn't we know if we wouldn't have found her she will have not make it through the winter, we had another pet Napoleon we welcomed Daisy with open arms and made her a part of your family. We have shown her all the love she has needed in the last 5 years Love her She interacts well with everyone....my grandson in the picture loves her so..she is his dog dog..she is so loved by everyone she interacts with....she means so much to us she loves us and we love her right back. There is something someone said that has stuck in my mind, we don't deserve them...... We are worried that her other leg might give out so it would mean the world if we can help her...money is so tight due to this virus I barley have work, we have to pay our bills and there just isn't enough money, my wife isn't working and all the burden is on me. Pls help. We took Daisy to her vets called City Paws in DC. We took her there due to her hind leg wasn't being put down on the floor. Dr. Knight which is a great doctor informed us that she had a ruptured knee cap...this really hit me hard due to the fact we lost our other pet and he also couldn't put his leg down and it brought back sad,sad times. She will be going to Helping Hands in Richmond. She is so special because we saw her when we rescued her but she's a fighter and she's tough to have survived through what she went through, we have no knowledge where she came from and how long she was alone in the streets, all we know we gave her a home where she is loved and safe..she saved us..

Sam

Sam is a 7-year-old Long hair tabby in Washington, DC, who needs $1,780 for Surgery .

Washington, DC

I found Sam along with his siblings. His mom just happened to come to my house and I fed her and took care of her babies. Sam and his siblings have been with me for 7yrs. And I love them to death. Sam is living in a home with me and my son. He has his own bed, food and water bowl. He is a long hair tabby with white, tan, black fur. Sam has a wonderful life here in my home. He loves to play with my son and his friends. I must say Sam is a Mama’s boy. He is spoiled. He loves to get into the window and just sleep. He has his favorite ball that he hides so that his siblings can’t play with it. He loves to go into my son room and bury himself in his blankets. The pandemic has interrupted with me receiving regular pay. It would mean a lot to me for Sam to receive surgery for his ruptured ACL. I want him back to normal. Right now he is limping and he can’t sit or stand too long. Please help me raise money for his surgery. ❤️ Sam ruptured his ACL in the back leg. Right now he is comfortable with pain medication and relaxing a lot more. He goes to PG Animal hospital where he received treatment/medication. His surgery will be done at Helping Hands in Richmond VA. Right now I have not made an appointment for his surgery as of yet. Sam is fascinated by the trash truck. When he hears the trash truck he just runs and jumps into the window and watches as the truck goes by. Sam wakes me up every morning with his paw on my face so that I can open the window. He gets in the window every morning at 6:30am. He lets me know when he wants more of my attention by tapping me on my leg. He surprises me all the time.

I remember I found Copper online on Craigslist. This couple accidentally had a litter and were just getting rid of them. He was one of the two that were left when I got there. He came up to me and chose me. It was an instant bond. When I got him he was super deep brown like the color Of a penny so Copper just instantly what I thought. I got him at 3 months old, and 5 years later here we are. Copper is a secret adventurer. He likes to spend his days napping and sunbathing, but as soon as I grab the keys to leave he is ready to go somewhere. The ocean is his favorite place in the world, but when we can’t make it there he will settle for a hike through the Forrest or some time along the river. I’ve been out of work because of the COVID-19 pandemic And trying to catch up. I’ve also had a few unexpected expenses occur due to having to move. Copper has been my best friend and emotional support the past 5 years saving his life would mean the world to me. I love him Copper has a large bladder stone that has redeveloped since his surgery a year ago. He is in constant pain and has trouble just trying to urinate. Right now the stone is large and needs an immediate surgery with a stone analysis. I have been going to the Banfield hospital since the original surgery. Copper loves blankets especially one straight out of the dryer. He will sleep under them for hours until deciding to come out and army crawl across the room to favorite baby blue Kong that we keep filled with treats. He is the quietest sweetest boy But he can be randomly vocal when he feels like it. Everything is always new, scary which makes life a fun adventure with him.

Romeo

Romeo is an 8-year-old Cockapoo in White Plains, MD, who needs $1,000 for amputation surgery.

WHITE PLAINS, MD

Romeo's journey began with us finding a lost and hungry Pit Bull. We fed him and called animal control. They came and said he would be euthanized because of his breed unless we found someone in another county to adopt him. After spending those few hours with him and realizing what a good dog he was, the thought of him being killed was ridiculous. We began the frantic search and the people at Second Hope Rescue agreed to pick him up from the shelter. On the day he was supposed to leave I went to the shelter to say goodbye. The Pit Bull was already gone but a newly arrived ball of energy caught my eye. His coat was matted and he looked a mess but he was so happy. Within days, we adopted that dog and named him Romeo. If he had been a girl we would have named him Karma because getting him was Karma at her best! Romeo became part of our family right from the start. He has never given us any problems and is the best dog on the planet. He could be a service dog because everyone loves him and vice versus. He even captured the heart of my Mom who has dementia and has never owned a dog. He rotates who he sleeps with to give everyone their turn. But now his knee is being eaten away. Our vet didn't initially know why so he has been on pain medicine for a few months. Now we know that it is life-threatening, and we don't want to waste any more time getting that leg off. He is so happy, it is hard to believe that something is invading his body and trying to take him away. Romeo has brought us so much joy. I want to do everything I can to save his life.
