Calvin

Calvin is a 6 year old Mix-Breed in Scarborough, ME, who needs $2,000 for Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia.

Scarborough, ME

We adopted Calvin in 2020 through a rescue in NH. He joined his big sister, Cleo, Dana, and I in our home in Scarborough. He has been the most perfect addition to our family ever since. Medically, Calvy has not had an easy ride. When we first adopted him, he struggled with tummy and skin issues, however, once figured out, he was a healthy, happy 50 pound boy with an amazing and shiny coat. In 2022, Calvin was brought to MVMC and was ultimately diagnosed with PLE. With a special diet, meds, and check ups, Calvin was back to his energetic self in no time. This past June, Calvin returned to MVMC because of concerning symptoms, where he was diagnosed with IMHA. After 3 weeks of recovering, he was readmitted twice within a week, due to other complications with IMHA and the strong meds. Calvy is the most special boy. He brightens every room, and everyone's day. He is goofy, energetic, curious, clever, and so loving. He lets his sisters boss him around, but he loves them. He loves running on trails, sticking his head out the window, sleeping under the covers during bedtime, eating snacks, laying on his (many) dog beds in any room we are in, and just being anywhere with his family. We work really hard: Dana's overtime days, and my working 3 part time gigs, even after teaching. With PLE, there were many medical expenses. And now, with IMHA, there are good days and hard days, and consistent medical expenses for our Calvy boy to be all the way healthy.

Maddie

Maddie is a 7.5 year old Beagle in Harmony, ME, who needs $9,000 for Hospitalization ICU Level 3, Bloodwork Pending.

Harmony, ME

We found Maddie with her sister Bindie in 2018 after losing our dog Daisy to a Dump Truck incident. She has been a godsend since we got her. She lives with me and my mother at our home in Harmony. Our older Dog Prince passed away March of last year, and her sister Bindie were both heart broken as were me and my mother. Maddie and Bindie have been my rock and are always with me when I am home. Maddie is currently a patient in the ICU at Maine Veterinary Care Center. This past week she got sick and started declining fast. We thought it was possibly a tick related from getting a few bites. We ran tests at her vet and she tested + for Leptospirosis. She was rushed to the Care center, where she tested negative. Her kidney numbers are not good, and she needed an IV fluids. Maddie is like a kid to me. I never got the chance to have my own children and I currently take care of my mother who is on hospice care for Stage 4 Colon Cancer. It has been a rough year, but Maddie has always been there to be at our side and give us lots of smiles and makes us laugh. She is a goof ball, and I absolutely adore her. I would do anything to help her be healthy and happy again. Currently her vet bills are skyrocketing and I never thought I would need health insurance for my dog. I regret that now, and I know she needs these IV fluids, and until her blood work comes back.... her vet bills are increasing every day. I am not one to ever ask for help.

Luna is a 14 year old Boston Terrier in Sanford, ME, who needs $4,500 for Mammary Mass Removal and Chemo Treatment.

Sanford, ME

My husband and I had moved to Florida alittle bit after we got married in 2011, we had found someone with Boston terrier pups and we thought let add a little companion to our family. As we got there she basically picked us. New it was a perfect match, she was born in the month of September in 2012, and 14 years later she is still with us we didn’t move to a place she couldn’t come with us to! On April 2, 2026, Luna was diagnosed with a mammary mass that has spread to her lungs being metastatic cancer we new something was wrong when she just isn’t herself playing or eating like she used to eat. She is an old girl but I want to give her the best shot as possible and I don’t want her to suffer anymore than she needs to. Luna has been the core of this family, she brings us up when we are down she brightens anyone’s day. She is just the sweetest to everyone and ever other animal that she comes cross with “She’s the big dog” when the other dogs are bigger than her. She means so much to us and I can’t even fathom the thought of losing her. My husband and I work full time and we are trying to pull everything we can together try to get fund that we need with also trying to live comfortably so we have a roof over our heads. We have been saving to get her surgery and the care she needs.

Littles

Littles is a 11 month old American Shorthair in Whitefield, ME, who needs $2,000 for Thoracotomy.

Whitefield, ME

When I first met Littles, he was one of the three kittens who had survived out of the six born into his litter. But as soon as Littles turned 5 months old, he joined my family and has been living here for almost 7 months. Before Littles came to live with us, he was very sick, with minimal treatment being done. After taking him to the Maine Veterinary Medical Center, they let us know he has a stage 5 PDA, which is a congenital heart defect characterized by the presence of a vascular structure that connects the pulmonary artery and the aorta. After birth, it is supposed to close, but in Little's case, it did not. So it will need to be surgically done. Without this surgery, he will pass. Littles is my best friend. He follows me and greets me at all the right times. He interacts with the other cats in such a playful, innocent way that makes him so lovable. He loves everyone and is the most social cat I have ever seen. He is wild and funny. He is the best cat anyone could ask for. Littles means everything to me, and I love him more than anything. I really don't want to lose my cat. Littles lives in a household with four kids, a single mother, and a handicapped adult. The money made in the household is spent on groceries and bills. A five-thousand-dollar surgery just doesn’t fit into the tight family budget. Anything helps. Please help Littles.

Mighty Mouse

Mighty Mouse is a 3 month old Siberian in South Portland, ME, who needs $2,000 for Pectus Excavatum Surgery.

South Portland, ME

Meet Mighty Mouse—a 12-week-old Siberian kitten who lives up to his name in courage if not yet in size. When I heard about his predicament, I learned about a soul too sweet and determined to give up, even as his little body struggled to do the most basic thing we take for granted: breathe. Mighty Mouse was born with pectus excavatum, also called flat-chested kitten syndrome. His tiny rib cage is sunken inward, forcing his heart to the left and compressing his lungs. Because of this, he tires quickly, struggles to grow, and at twelve weeks old, weighs just over one pound—barely half the size of his littermates. Without surgery, the prognosis is grim: his organs will remain compromised, his growth stunted, and his life tragically short. Right now, as you read this, he is in the hands of Dr. Jacob Rubin at Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough, Maine, undergoing life-saving surgery—a specially designed splint to gently reshape his chest, allowing his heart and lungs to move freely. The splint must stay in place for four to eight weeks, during which during which Mighty will need pain relief, antibiotics, and X-rays. This kind of specialized care is expensive, but it is also transformative: it offers Mighty Mouse a real shot at a normal, healthy life full of play, companionship, and love. I am reaching out to you to help cover some of the cost. He's a swell little guy.

Old orchard beach, ME

Luna-Skye my everything about 7 years ago she needed a forever home and I needed a cat, and through the absolute worst times of my life she has been my rock, she’s kind, caring, lovable, playful, at times very bossy but at the end of the day she is just the most lovable girl I could ever have dreamt about having. She started sneezing, took her to the vet. They thought that it might be allergies hasn’t stopped. She’s lost a little weight, took her back and her mouth is swollen. They believe she has a tumor between her nose and her mouth and then it may need to be surgically removed, and she’s going to Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough ME. Miss Luna-Skye like all of the cats has a mind of her own personality like none other can be very sassy very lovable very friendly definitely bossy from one minute to the other either she wants to be friendly or She just wants to put her nose up and say leave me alone she always does look at you and everybody with love in her eyes couldn’t have had a better choice of a cat. With the rock, she has been for me. It’s now my turn to be her rock, She does mean the world to us especially me and I will do anything and everything to give her the cash she needs and deserves.

Salem Marie

Salem Marie is a 3 year old American Staffordshire Terrier in South Royalton , VT, who needs $11,000 for Pelvic Surgery.

South Royalton, VT

Salem came to us from a very bad situation. At the time I thought we were saving her, but she has saved us! Everyday since she came into our lives she’s made our home brighter and our lives more joyful. She is the sweetest dog I’ve ever met and we hope to train her to become a therapy dog. Not only because she’d be great at it but to help combat some of the stigma associated with her breed. On Wednesday, June 11th Salem was struck by a car coming up our driveway. We immediately brought her to our closest animal hospital (SAVES, Lebanon, NH) and they discovered that she has several fractures and breaks in her pelvis area and would require surgery. In our area, there were no surgeons who could get her in quick enough so we brought her to Maine Veterinary Medical Center for surgery. Salem (aka Da’ Baby) is always in the middle. Whether my kiddo and I are on the couch or sleeping in bed, she’s got to be cuddling. She even tucks herself in. She watches over our other pets and has saved our chickens from a hawk! Whenever we’re feeling down she just knows and will offer us cuddles and licks until we’re feeling better. Everyone who meets her comments on her sweet nature! Salem’s surgery costs nearly $11,000. I am a single parent and although I work two jobs, this cost will financially devastate us. Salem is strong and will come back from surgery! Money is all that stands in the way of Salem living a full life.

Milo is a 1.5 year old Mix-Breed in East Waterboro, ME, who needs $2,000 for Hospitalization and Fluid Therapy.

East Waterboro, ME

I just met Milo this morning, and I knew he was a special boy. His previous owners were not ready to part with him, and neither was I. He's not even 2 years old yet and has a chance to recover from this that I would love to be a part of. Milo underwent surgery to remove a urinary blockage this morning. He is currently checked in to Maine Veterinary Medical Center for aggressive fluid therapy, with plans for an ultrasound and bloodwork to determine if more surgical intervention is needed or not. While I did not get the chance to meet Milo at his best - as he was in critical condition on arrival... his previous owners were willing to part with him to give him a second chance. He has a cute little diamond on his nose and is polydactyl - so he has extra toe beans! Milo was surrendered because his owners could not financially support the treatment that was needed to save his life. While I am approved for financing to pay for his care, I could really use the assistance especially in case his care involves a second surgery.

Cyndrella is a 14 year old Shetland Sheepdog in Old Orchard Beach, ME, who needs $2,000 for Spay and Removal of Any Other Growths.

Old Orchard Beach, ME

Cyndrella came into our lives 14 years ago. She cam from a sheltie, carin terrior breeder/friend. She is a mix of each. She is a social butterfly, people lover, best friend and companion, and walk lover;who loves her Mom,(me), her Dad, our son, her kitty brother, Misha and bird brother Qt. She has a big joy in her, and she needs our help to get it back. This is an emergency situation. She has been in a long heat for a month. She has been to the vet, to investigate this heavy bleeding, that's gone on for too long. They said she needs an ultrasound,to see what is going on, and to get her in for that, was in the works. She bled very heavily yesterday, like clots and we rushed to the emergency vet. To sum up she needs surgery, $9-12,000 to spay her She is not asking to be put down, as I know the look and behavior of that. She is eating off and on, going out to do her business, and waiting for help to get well. The only other option is for her to be put down. We are desperately trying to not have that happen, she needs our help. We are looking in every avenue to get funds, on.our own. My husband found waggle, and we are here out of desperation. She wants to live and she wants her good health back. We love her dearly The money goes from Waggle, to Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough Maine

Cici

Cici is a 11-year-old Domestic Shorthair Cat in Portland, ME, who needs $2,000 for Surgery and Cancer Treatment.

Portland, ME

I adopted Cici 3 years ago. A relative of a friend was going into assisted living and couldn't bring Cici with her. Cici was originally from a shelter and they were looking for a home. I learned that she loved seafood, doing yoga and playing with wand toys. It took her a little while to open up but when she did she revealed herself as a snuggler who also gives nose kisses to her humans. Cici was very shy when I first brought her home. I was able to lure her out with a can of tuna fish. I gave her space and after about 3 months she started coming out of her shell. I learned she loves playing with wand toys. Then, she started sleeping on my pillow and lap. She has a funny meow that she uses when she wants to play or wants me to sit on the couch with her and snuggle. Cici is an "only cat" and has a unique personality. She is very little and is shy. When she jumps on the couch she makes a squeak. If you are in another room with the door closed, she will push the door open with one or both of her paws. She used to be shy with strangers but now she greets them! She holds her paw up to have her nails trimmed and the vets all comment on her sweet demeanor. This past weekend, Cici mostly stopped eating and drinking. I took her to the ER and found she has an abdominal tumor that is likely lymphoma. It was creating a blockage and needed immediate emergency surgery. The next steps are chemotherapy and other medicines and specialist appointments. She is undergoing surgery at Maine Veterinary Medical Center with Dr. Steinberg and Dr. Lancaster. Cici is an important part of my life and I want to help make her comfortable. I am also having surgery in the next month and her support and presence means so much. Testing and surgery is reaching 10K before chemotherapy. I am worried I will not be able to afford her care.

Maple

Maple is a 5-month-old English Bulldog in Denmark, ME, who needs $1,500 for Spinal Surgery.

Denmark, ME

Meet Maple! She's our 5-month-old English bulldog. She's amazing, if you've met her you already know this. In recent weeks Maple has developed hemivertebrae and spina bifida during her growth. We noticed this recently because of the lack of mobility in her rear legs. While she still has some function it's clear that she is struggling while walking and is best described as 'wobbly'. In early March I tricked Spencer into thinking we were meeting Grandma to drive something back home for her as we have a lot of family in the MD & PA area and for a 12-year-old this all just seemed plausible. Eventually, we met Maple. We are a large family, I have 2 boys and Carrie, my S/O, has 2 boys 1 girl, a grandson and a granddaughter. There's too much love to just give up. We will certainly do what is best for Maple with or without donations but any help provided would certainly prevent us from having to have Spencer pick up a full-time job. I'm sure he would appreciate it! Maple has developed an awkward gait to the point I'm concerned. I brought her to our standard vet and while they agreed 'somethings up' we left with the understanding we were going to monitor things. Time for a second opinion so I called a well-known 24/7 animal hospital and specialty clinic. They immediately called me back after the initial phone screening and asked that I bring her down. Xrays, MRI imaging and CT scans have already cost us $7,000 and after 2 second opinions she is a solid candidate for surgery to correct the Spina Bifida, but this is an additional ~$6,000.

Lily

Lily is a 9-year-old Mix Dog in Bath, ME, who needs $950 for Ultrasound, radiographs, exam.

Bath, ME

We got Lily from the local animal shelter. When we went to look at dogs she was part of a litter of pups and she was off on her own just watching what was going on. My daughter, 13 at the time, felt drawn to her so that is the pup she picked. The shelter was unsure of her mix breed but that didn’t matter to us so we filled out the paperwork and Lily became part of the family. Lily loves kids and with a house full of them that was a good thing. Lily attached to my daughter and spent most of her time in her room or on the couch next to her. As the kids grew and left the home lily attached herself to my husband. She will ignore me all day long and he speaks once and she does just what he said to do. She is happy to see the grandkids and loves to cuddle on the couch. Lily is always excited when we return home from work, or anywhere else. She always greats us with a wagging tail and something in her mouth that she wants to bring us. She will pick anything up to bring to you from a sock on the floor to a kids toy that got left out. She also likes to “talk” when others are around to get your attention. We recently found out lily has polycythemia vera, a condition where her body is making too many red blood cells and making her blood too thick. We do not know what is causing this yet. The vet thinks the cause is most likely a mass in her kidneys which may or may not be cancerous. We have to take her to a specialist who will want to do more testing and possibly a biopsy to figure this out. As many are aware the pandemic has hit some hard. While we have faired ok during this we have had to use what savings we did have to get by and have yet been able to start saving again. We just need answers so we can make an informed decision on how to help Lily
