DJ

DJ is a 8-year-old Pit Bull Mix in Los Angeles, CA, who needs $1,000 for Chronic Dry Eye Ongoing Treatment.

Los Angeles, CA

I met DJ after reaching out to a volunteer dog rescuer stating that I wanted to foster a Senior. She sent me a list of those available at various shelters. The organization I began fostering through, Sandy Paws Sanctuary abruptly shut down stating due to “medical emergency” We received no communication at all. There are 50+ dogs with various fosters who now have no financial support. DJ is a sweet guy who loves meeting new people, walks and car rides. He is the only dog in the home and his favorite snacks are mint and coconut dental chews as well as salmon training treats. DJ smiles all the time and follows me everywhere. Although he is an older guy, he has bursts of energy (zoomies) especially after a good nap! He is allergic to chicken. And does not beg for people food. DJ was diagnosed with chronic dry eye, which means he does not produce the amount of tears needed to prevent infection. Without the proper lubrication on the eye, pigment will build up over the cornea and result in permanent blindness. The vet at Manhattan Beach Animal Hospital is attempting to manage DJ's eye condition with 3 medications. The hope is that once the clarity of his eyes is stable, only 1 ointment will be required twice daily. However, this will be for the remainder of his life.

Photo of Kiara

Kiara

Kiara is a 8-year-old Pit Bull Terrier in Montclair, CA, who needs $2,000 for Gastric Obstruction Surgery and Post Op Monitoring.

Montclair, CA

I received a call about puppies that needed a home and upon seeing the only tan and smallest pup of the litter, I knew she was the one and brought her home. Kiara came home August 2014 and was welcomed by Cleo her Chihuahua sister and Little Dog her poofy poodle/maltese mix sis and has been with us ever since. Kiara blended right in with the rest of our family immediately. (She even won over my big dog fearing mother!) Even though she outgrew her siblings, she still believes she is a lap dog lol Despite her size, she's always been super gentle with her furry and human friends. She loves to catch you off guard with a soft nudge on the hand to welcome some pets. Being a Bully breed, she's faced a lot of judgement. But in those moments, she's shown people how wrong they were about her. It's been amazing to see how great she has been after welcoming my own son into the family. The curiosity and love she has shown for him has no words. She's his buddy, his "good gwirl." Anyone that meets her falls in love with her. Kiara needs surgery to remove an intestinal obstruction. This is an intense and costly surgery, but it is the only option to save her. After surgery, she will need to be monitored and each day is 1,000 to 2,500 a day. The team at our veterinary clinic are already going to great lengths to help us help Kiara get the treatment and care she needs. Most of us can agree that the pandemic has caused financial strain on our families, and as my family continues to bounce back, we are humbly asking for your help to get our baby better so she can be home with her best buddy.
