Huckleberry

Huckleberry is a 1 year old Mix-Breed in Cary, NC, who needs $3,500 for Foreign Body Removal.

Cary, NC

Huckleberry is a 1-year-old stray, finally caught at a berry farm in early July after days loose near a main road in brutal heat, neighbors said he’d been out over a week. We named him for the place that finally gave him shelter. He came to us filthy, matted, and holding one front leg up. He’s now safe indoors in our foster home through Dog Warriors Rescue, crate-rested beside our senior dog Milo. X-rays at Quartet Specialty Hospital found a fractured front leg and, to our shock, a tooth left in the soft tissue. Huckleberry was attacked by another dog. That tooth is feeding an abscess that clears on antibiotics and returns the week he finishes them. He’s been hurting a long time. Surgery to remove it, clean out the infection, and stabilize the fracture is the only thing that saves the leg. For his first week here, Huckleberry trembled every time we touched him. And every time we stopped, he’d lift a paw and tap us, asking for more. He wanted to be loved more than he was afraid. He has never growled, never snapped. He sleeps pressed against my leg. Last week he picked up a toy for the first time. He is just learning how to be a dog and that people can be kind. Dog Warriors is small and volunteer-run, already stretched covering his emergency care. We can’t absorb this alone. Funding it means Huckleberry keeps his leg — and that the next dog found on a roadside still gets someone to say yes. We just want to see him run without pain.

Photo of Max

Max

Max is a 8 year old Mix-Breed in Havelock , NC, who needs $2,000 for Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy.

Havelock, NC

We rescued Max from a local animal shelter after he and his entire litter were turned in because they were not full bred. He was 3 months old when we met him and just fell in love. He is a mixed breed of chocolate lab and shepherd. He is gentle, walks himself with his leash and loves to play. He is the most laid back of all of our rescues. Max sustained a torn ACL before Christmas 2024. We received a referral for the Vet Specialty Hospital from Max's local vet and after the initial consult, Max had TPLO surgery in March 2025. He is approximately 15 weeks into recovery and has torn his other ACL and needs another TPLO procedure. He loves to play and catch balls and is just very active. Max loves jumping up and catching balls and other toys thrown by his humans. He is also very playful with his 3 siblings. He tried to referee when the others play rough and barks his concerns loudly! With this sudden unexpected additional expense of another TPLO procedure, we are in need of help in trying to get Max healthy again. We understand not everyone can help. THANK YOU!

Captain Jack Sparrow

Captain Jack Sparrow is a 9 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi in Greenville, NC, who needs $8,000 for TLPO Surgery.

Greenville, NC

Captain Jack Sparrow joined our family on August 6, 2016 when he was 2 months old, and he has been with us his entire life. He and his brother, Captain William Turner (one year younger, half brother- same father) joined us the following year and they are the heart of our family. We want to give them the world because they have enriched our lives beyond measure. Our vet referred us to Quartet Veterinary Hospital, and they are handling Jack's care; he is scheduled for TPLO surgery on his left leg. At our consultation appointment, x-rays showed that his right leg looks as bad as the left, and will probably need surgery as well once the left leg is healed. We didn't think his left leg was in such rough shape, and news of the right leg was a total shock. Jack is smart, intuitive, loving, protective, sweet, caring, and so funny. He's always been our baby and makes us feel loved in a way we didn't know was possible. He is stoic and a really tough little guy, so seeing him struggling to move around the way he was able to before has been really difficult because we're doing everything we can, but we still want to do more. This has happened quickly and unexpectedly. Jack is hurting and we want to do whatever we can to give him the best quality of life, so he can get back to doing all the things he loves. With surgery and vet care, $8000 is the the low end of what we're looking at for one leg.

Photo of Emersyn

Emersyn

Emersyn is a 3-month-old Mixed Breed Puppy in Raeford, NC, who needs $2,000 for Cleft Palate Reconstruction.

Raeford, NC • Second Chance Ranch Rescue and Sanctuary

Emersyn was born into our rescue and currently lives in a foster home with four other fur siblings. Weighing in at 2lbs, Emersyn is the smallest dog (by far) in her foster home. She was separated from her litter at two days old upon the diagnosis of her cleft palate. Due to the danger of nursing for a cleft palate puppy, Emersyn required tube feedings until she was able to be weaned. Although Emersyn is at least 50 lbs smaller than all other dogs in the house, she absolutely runs the place! She enjoys playing with her older brother, Talos, but her older brother, Barnabas, is terrified of her. She enjoys tormenting Barnabas. She has her foster dad absolutely wrapped around her little paw! She can often be found begging him to carry her around or sitting on his shoulder. Emersyn is two pounds of unbridled sass and spunk. Her new bed is one of his favorite things, although she still occasionally sneaks into Barnabas' crate to steal his bed. She loves to perch on her foster dad's shoulder like a parrot while they sit on the couch together. She is an absolute joy to be around and she knows it too! In the exams she had after birth, Emersyn was diagnosed with a cleft palate, hydrocephalus, entropion, two hernias, luxating hips and patellas, and chronic upper respiratory infections. Emersyn's cleft palate came as a shock to our rescue. Being a small nonprofit, we will be unable to pull together the upwards of $10k required for all of her surgeries, but we are very committed towards giving Emersyn the best life we can.

Photo of Snowball

Snowball

Snowball is a 3-year-old Domestic Shorthair in Sanford, NC, who needs $2,000 for Orthopedic Procedure.

Sanford, NC

This is our son's emotional support pet cat. His name is Snowball and he is 3 years old. We got him from Pet Alliance Rescue of Sanford. Florida. He is neutered and micro-chipped. He is a very sweet and loving cat and follows our son to just about every room in our home and so wherever our son is, the cat just follows. We consider him the family cat because he is just very kind and playful. Snowball likes to sleep in our son's room and they just enjoy each other's company. He used to be an indoor and outdoor cat but after the August 31st incident we decided that he will no longer be an outdoor cat. He likes to play and tends to be very wild especially at night he likes to run through the house at different hours. He is very well behaved but can sometimes be mischievous. We are currently asking for financial assistance to help cover costs for Snowball's surgery along with upcoming physical therapy. We care for our four children in our family. Due to the pandemic it has put a setback to cover for Snowball's expenses. Our cat was outside on the night of August 31, 2020 and another "unknown" animal caught him and attacked him. We quickly took him to our local Banfield Pet Hospital clinic where he got sutured up and was diagnosed with a bite wound on the right elbow and then a shattered left elbow that needed surgery. We took him to Quartet Veterinary Hospital of Cary, NC and he is currently being treated there. He likes to play hide and seek and likes to track objects around the house. Anytime someone rolls a toy on the ground even if it is just a piece of yarn it is play time for him. He likes to go outside and just see what bugs he can chase and catch as well. Our son is autistic and we can see a huge difference when they are around each other with so much love and support that the cat has to offer.
