Pinecone
Abandoned at a Boat Ramp, Vomiting & In Pain—Pinecone Needs a Village
Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates
Pinecone is a young puppy who was abandoned at a boat ramp in Guyandotte and brought to the HCWAS shelter. She is currently under emergency veterinary care. Despite a rough start, she has shown resilience and trust while being cared for by shelter staff. After vomiting, Pinecone was tested for parvo, which was thankfully negative. However, she then vomited a broken penny. X-rays confirmed she ingested multiple coins. She was rushed to emergency care and requires urgent abdominal exploratory surgery. Treating hospital: HCWAS emergency veterinary staff. Pinecone is a gentle, innocent puppy whose circumstances were never her choice. Despite being abandoned and in pain, she remains trusting and sweet with caregivers. Her will to survive and her vulnerability make her especially deserving of a second chance and a safe, loving future. Pinecone’s emergency surgery, hospitalization, bloodwork, IV fluids, and medications are costly and far exceed the shelter’s limited budget. Donations will directly save her life and give her the chance to heal, thrive, and eventually find a loving home. 3/10/26 Update: PINECONE MADE A FULL RECOVERY!! Pinecone actually required three abdominal surgeries to remove all of the coins she had swallowed. She went back and forth between her foster home and the vet for incision care, vaccines, and routine follow-ups—and through it all, she was an absolute trooper. We’re thrilled to share that Pinecone has made a full recovery and has officially been adopted! 💛 Thank you to everyone who supported Pinecone on her journey—this happy ending wouldn’t have been possible without you. 3/10/26 Update: PINECONE MADE A FULL RECOVERY!! Gino
Gino is a 6-month-old Mixed Breed Dog in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for Emergency Care for Multiple Fractures and Head Trauma.
Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates
Gino is only six months old, 37 pounds, and his life could have tragically ended discarded on the side of the road. The poor pup was struck by a careless driver going at breakneck speeds. The driver got out, checked her car for damage, abandoned Gino on the side of the road and fled. Fortunately, another driver found Gino lying there broken and bleeding, but for unknown reasons, removed his collar before leaving him to die and sped off too. Witnesses nearby saw the young pup shivering and motionless as blood streamed out of his nose. They assumed he had already passed away - little did they know that despite his severe fractures, Gino still clung to life. Thankfully a Good Samaritan rushed him to the vet and called One by One Animal Advocates. X-Rays revealed multiple fractures - 2 femoral head growth plate fractures, a left pubic fracture, right sacroiliac subluxation, and right distal ulnar fracture. He also had head trauma that had caused brain swelling - a severe and potentially fatal condition. Treatment began immediately; Gino received medication to reduce swelling of his brain and anti-seizure and anti-nausea medicines for symptomatic relief. Despite this lifesaving care, he suffered two seizures. "This is alarming and scary, but not unexpected given the high impact." Heather says, "We continued our critical observation of him, giving pain meds when needed, but knowing full well we may not be able to save his life." One by One Animal Advocates is a non-profit dedicated to providing emergency care to animals in need. Prayers and donations can make a difference - please join us in sending positive thoughts and offering assistance for sweet Gino!

Tillie
Tillie is a 2-year-old Beagle mix in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for emergency surgery.
Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates
"Neighbors reported Tillie ate a rug a week ago and had not been able to eat or drink since," Heather A., with One By One Animal Advocates, tells Waggle. "She was lethargic and alarmingly emaciated. We didn't have the funds available but knew if we delayed medical care, the dog would die." Heather decided to leap and hoped the net would appear. They raced Tillie to the animal hospital, where she needed immediate surgery to remove the rug from her digestive system. But Tillie is still hospitalized in critical condition, and her future is dicey right now. One By One Animal Advocates needs financial help to save Tillie's life and pay her substantial medical bill. "Tillie has come so far but still has so many obstacles, Heather says. "We are deeply grateful for anyone who can give. Nothing is certain other than Tillie is loved, and everything possible will be done to save her."

Marley
Marley is a 1-year-old DSH Cat in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for Life-Threatening Gaping Abdominal Wound.
Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates
Marley, 1-2 year old female cat who was attacked and ripped open. She had a large, deep abdominal wound and we feared for her life, when we got her to the ER. The vet reported a dangerously high temperature of more than 105F. She urgently needed IV fluids, antibiotics, pain medication, and blood work. She is suffering from a severe infection so the vet team cannot close the wound because it would only trap the infection, making it worse. Marley is currently receiving around the clock care at the hospital- wet to dry bandage changes daily. Once the infection is under control, She will need surgery to debride the wound, freshen the edges, and attempt closure. We don’t know what attacked her, but the vet said she is a very lucky girl! The predator went for her groin, which can cause death from rapid blood loss. We are so grateful she escaped and was found by a sympathetic and compassionate person who then reached out to us, One by One Animal Advocates for help. Marley has used several of her 9 lives already, and we need your help to save her! She is just a baby, has a full life ahead of her, and a family that would be very lucky to have her. We have been crushed with recent medical bills and it seems there is no stopping the calls and requests for homeless animals. We never want to have to say no to animal who needs our help. Can you please help us by donating towards her surgery and on-going medical bills? Every amount helps!

Olive
Olive is a 9-year-old Pug in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for emergency care.
Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates
Pictures of Olive posted on social media shocked One By One Animal Advocates. The Pug had a gigantic mass protruding from her backside, and you could see every rib in her emaciated body. She showed up on someone's porch in a rural area. "The post said, 'Please help! She is 100% starving,'" Heather A., with One By One Animal Advocates, tells Waggle. In a flash, a volunteer from the nonprofit group got Olive to the animal hospital, where a veterinarian found Olive's bladder prolapsed. Now she needs a surgery called cystopexy, to attach her bladder to her abdominal wall so it doesn't move again. "When Olive needed her family the most in her elderly years, they abandoned her," Heather says. "Can you help us get Olive the emergency surgery she needs? Olive is so grateful to everyone for their ongoing love and support!"

Miley
Miley is a 1-year-old Terrier in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for emergency cesarean section surgery.
Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates
Miley's life was on the line. One By One Animal Advocates tells Waggle that Miley's family abandoned her in an emergency animal hospital lobby. She needed an emergency c-section to survive, and they could not pay the bill. She delivered one puppy who died and needed surgery quickly to get the other babies out. Without someone paying for her medical care, Miley would have faced economic euthanasia. That's when One By One Animal Advocates swooped in to save her. "We absolutely couldn't say no to this sweet girl," Heather A., with the nonprofit group, says. "Miley is just one year old and has so many wonderful doggy years ahead of her. We now need help raising funds for her surgery." One By One says by giving to Miley's campaign; you'll save not only her life but many! "If all goes well, Miley and her puppies will spend a few days in the hospital recovering," Heather says. "The hope is the happy family will be off to a foster home. Thank you for supporting us and allowing us to continue saving animals like Miley, who needs us the most!"

Dozer
Dozer is a 1-year-old American Bully in Branchland, WV, who needs $1,580 for two broken legs.
Branchland, WV
My's pet name is Dozer. I got him when he was 5 or 6 months old and he will be 2 on January 4. He was a gift that I would have never expected, a big ball of sunshine. He is not only a pet or a dog, he is family. He bonded fast with the kids. They love him and he is my best friend and like another one of my kids. I don't know what I’d do if I lost him. I can’t stand to watch him suffer. Please help my family. He brings so much joy to our little family from the way he greets us every morning to the way he helps us sleep at night. He loves giving everyone cuddles and hugs and love. It does not matter who it is—he has never meet a stranger and I think that’s why he is so special. The youngest one tries to ride him like a horse and sadly we haven’t had a chance to tell them yet. Dozer is special because of all the little things he does and how much love he give. The twinkle in his eyes when we get home from work is heartwarming. He loves seeing the kids when they come home from school. He helps my wife when she has seizures. He’s always in a good loving mood ready to give loving. He’s our everything. He got hit by a car. They didn’t stop to tell or let us know, they kept going. Both of his back legs are broken, they are wanting $1900 just to keep him until Monday then 1500$+ for the surgery he needs. I’m begging you guys, even if it’s just a dollar, two dollars, five dollars, ten. Anything counts at this time 😭😭😭😭💔💔💔 I work as a bartender, and do not make close enough for just a portion. My wife has a great job & is putting all of her money towards getting our family dog back to his normal loving self.

Bonnie
Bonnie is a six-year-old Beagle in Huntington, WV, who needs $2,000 for emergency care.
Huntington, WV • One by One Animal Advocates
Bonnie was hit by a car, catapulted into a ditch, left on the side of the road, and could not move. "She was unable to use her back legs, so when she would hear a car drive by, she would use whatever energy she had left to raise her little head begging to be saved. But, not one person stopped to help her," Heather A., with One by One Animal Advocates, tells Waggle. Finally, someone did stop. That person contacted a Good samaritan who called Heather's nonprofit group. "We know for at least six hours she laid in the ditch in pain. She was panting from the heat and dehydration." One by One Animal Advocates scrambled to get Bonnie to the Tri-State Animal ER. She was immediately put on IV fluids, pain medication and had X-rays which revealed she had a broken pelvis. "The swelling from the fracture was compressing her spine," Heather says. "Her entire pelvic floor was broken off and missing." Bonnie remained hospitalized as the medical team continued to evaluate her, even expressing her bladder. Slowly Bonnie is making progress. She's starting to take a few steps--- which are definitely steps in the right direction in her case! "Even after sitting beside the road in tremendous pain for hours, this precious girl still has a big smile on her face. She is eagerly devouring food, causing the vet to speculate she may have laid in the ditch for longer than we were even aware. She is comforted by soft touches, and her tail has not stopped wagging," Heather adds. Heather says so many people drove past Bonnie without giving her a chance; she hopes now the Waggle community will!
