Chiquita
Chiquita is a 6 year old Chihuahua in Chicago, IL, who needs $1,940 for Hernia Repair- Inguinal.
Chicago, IL
Chiquita came into our lives in 2020. She belonged to our neighbors who had recently had their first child and some neglect began happening and we could hear her crying in the garage. We started asking the neighbors if they would like for us to watch her and have her come to our house. At first it was only for a few hours, then half a day, to eventually, on memorial day they gave her to us. At that time we noticed that she had a small growth on her left side. Eventually we got her spayed and afterwards we noticed the growth increasing in size. We took her in and they told us it was a Hernia. She had surgery and it seemed as if it would be fine. About a yeah and a half ago, we noticed a growth on her right side. It did not seem to bother her until recently and has now grown in size. Chiquita brought life to our family when Covid began. Being confined to the house took a toll on the family's mental health and when we began to care for her, she gave us a new sense of purpose. It took a while for her and our cat at the time to become used to each other but when he passed a year later, she helped us to heal. She loves car rides, tortillas, peanut butter, and old beanie babies. I am currently in school trying to get a PhD so I had to change jobs to accommodate for classes. Unfortunately, the new job has not provided the financial stability that was promised. Having her be healthy and one less stressor on my plate would help my mental health.

Mayaken
Mayaken is a 3-year-old Pitbull in Chicago , IL, who needs $2,000 for TPLO Surgery.
Chicago, IL
We adopted Mayaken 3 years ago when she was just a small, malnourished puppy who looked like a tiny wolf due to her dark coat. We also have another dog, Pancho, who is so very attached to Maya and cannot go a second without her. The name, Mayaken, is of Aztec (Nahuatl) origin and it translates to "Wolf". Mayaken enjoys long walks and takes her sweet time to smell everything she encounters. Maya sleeps with our 8-year-old son who absolutely adores her and seeing them grow up together has been so sweet to witness. To say the least, she is one happy, funny girl who has made such an impact on our family. Mayaken is such a sweet girl who greets us every day with a nice little howl to let us know that she is happy to have us home. She loves to snuggle up to you, steals your socks when you aren't looking, and loves to hunt for any bug she can find. After noticing that Maya was unable to bear any weight on her back legs, we took her to West Loop Veterinary Care where we set up a consultation with their orthopedic specialist, Dr. Wosar. Mayaken was diagnosed with a completely torn ligament in her knee and we decided to move forward with TPLO surgery. Maya is now on the road to a long recovery process, but we are hoping for the best. Since this incident happened so suddenly, we unfortunately were not prepared financially to cover all of her medical expenses. Seeing her struggle has been difficult and having her healthy again would mean the world to us.
