We got our dog kyo about 6 years ago, from a family that was unable to care for him anymore. He was being left outside and not getting the attention needed. We responded to the post and immediately fell in love. He was a handful at first, bringing him home and trying to re train him was no easy task. But since then he has been a great dog for our family. We have 4 kids and another dog. He doesn't really play with other dogs too much, but he loves tug of war with humans. The kids love kyo because he looks like a mean dog, but he is really a big softie. They feel protected knowing that he will ward off any intruders with his angry looks, then go snuggle in bed on top of them. We are on an extremely tight budget at this point in our lives. Im unable to pay for any of the tests to determine what is causing issues with kyo. Before covid I might have been able to find a vet that would take payments. I've even looked into shelters as a last resort. A few months ago we started noticing kyo whining when he went outside to poop. We figured it might be his glands being swollen so we looked up what we could give him to help. We got a few remedies and it seemed to help. He passed a softball sized poop, but eventually kept getting worse. We took him to trilogy veterinary care and they gave us an estimate of the tests needed. Kyo goes ape sh!t for walks! As soon as I grab the leash he is hoping around the house making all sorts of noises. He is a very vocal dog. He let's me know as soon as he is out of food or water, or if he needs anything. His body language is really easy to read. Kyo probably has the most personality out any dog I've ever had.

Claire

Claire is a four-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix in Rockwall, TX, who needs $1,000 for urgent surgery.

Someone may have dumped Claire on the side of the road. Then she went into labor, right along the highway! Soon after, things got even worse. Claire suffered severe complications during her delivery. Her life was on the line. But it appeared no one cared about Claire, and no one was coming to her rescue -- until a good Samaritan spotted her. That person called animal control. An officer rushed out and raced Claire to the Rockwall Adoption Center. X-rays and an ultrasound revealed three puppies were stuck. The shelter veterinarian performed emergency surgery, but sadly the puppies passed away. If Claire didn't have the operation, she would have died. Now Claire is doing well and is up for adoption. But the animal shelter needs your help raising the money to pay for Claire's medical bills. "Claire is just one of many animals in need that have come into our care recently, and they deserve nothing less than the best," Molly B., from the shelter, tells Waggle. "Claire is a very sweet and loving girl despite how she came to us. She will hopefully be able to find her furever home soon. Piper has been waiting longer than any other dog at Legacy Paws Rescue for her forever family. And if you know Piper, you know that’s hard to understand. She is pure joy. Piper loves exploring the trails, hunting for crawfish in the creek, riding in the Jeep, and playing catch... especially when it means diving after her ball in the water. But her favorite thing? Her massages. The moment she feels those gentle hands, Piper melts. She stretches out her legs, gives you the other side when she’s ready for more, and wags her entire body with happiness. It’s impossible not to smile when you see how much love and trust she has to give. A few months ago, we noticed something wasn’t quite right. After big days playing on the trails and in the creek, Piper was much more sore than usual. Then two of her friends came to visit for a week. Both had been previously adopted, and Piper was so excited to spend time with them again. They played hard, explored, and enjoyed every moment together... but afterward, Piper struggled. Some days, she could barely walk after those long days of fun. Seeing Piper, a dog who loves life so deeply, struggle was heartbreaking. She has now been referred to an orthopedic specialist, and this Friday we finally get answers. We’ll learn what is happening, what she needs, and how we can help her stay comfortable so she can keep doing the things she loves. Now, we’re asking our community to choose her too. 7/19/26 Update Today was a difficult day for Piper. We took her to see an orthopedic specialist, thinking her pain was coming from her hips. Instead, we received unexpected news. The problem isn't her hips at all. It's both of her knees. While it wasn't the news we were expecting, we finally have answers and, most importantly, a plan to help her. Piper will undergo the first of two surgeries this Thursday. After 8 to 10 weeks of recovery, she will need a second surgery on her other knee. It will be a long road, but we're committed to helping her every step of the way. One bright spot during today's appointment was Piper's incredible specialist. He took the time to explain exactly what is happening with her knees, allowed us to record his explanation, filmed her orthopedic exam, and will even be documenting her surgery. We hope sharing these videos will not only help others understand Piper's journey, but also raise awareness for other dogs who may be silently living with orthopedic pain. Dogs are incredibly good at hiding discomfort. By the time they start limping, struggling to get up, or slowing down, they may have been hurting for much longer than anyone realized. We hope Piper's story encourages more people to recognize those signs and seek veterinary care before the pain becomes even worse. As we prepare for Piper's first surgery, we are asking for your continued support. As expected, she's experiencing quite a bit of pain and doesn't want to walk much right now, but she's recovering well and is surrounded by lots of love and comfort. The next few days will be focused on rest, pain management, and giving her body the time it needs to heal. While it's hard to see her uncomfortable, this is a normal part of the recovery process, and we're hopeful she'll begin feeling stronger with each passing day. We'll continue to keep you updated on her recovery as she heals. 8/1/26 Update The first few days after surgery were incredibly difficult, but we're happy to share that Piper is beginning to walk again with the help of her dedicated caregiver. Using a support sling to help take some of the weight off her healing leg, Piper is slowly taking those important first steps toward recovery. Every step is gentle, carefully supervised, and taken at her own pace, but seeing her up and moving is a huge milestone. We also want to shine a light on the incredible person caring for Piper through this journey. Her caregiver has completely rearranged life to make sure Piper has everything she needs. She's sleeping on the floor beside Piper each night, monitoring her around the clock, helping her stand and walk, staying on top of medications, and putting everything else on hold to give Piper the best possible chance at a smooth and successful recovery. Recovering from orthopedic surgery isn't just about the procedure itself. It takes patience, constant care, and an incredible amount of love. Thankfully, Piper has all three. While she's making wonderful progress, her journey is far from over. She still has weeks of rehabilitation ahead of her before she'll be ready for the second surgery on her other knee. Java is a 3 year old Giant Schnauzer in Manvel, TX, who needs $20,000 for IV Therapy and Monitoring for Fungal Osteomyelitis.

A close friend of mine contacted me to tell me that he had the perfect puppy for me. It happened to be one of my dream dogs, a Giant Schnauzer and this friend new I loved dogs as I've always had them in my life. She was perfect so we took her home and named her Java! Java became suddenly ill one day as we first noticed her limping. The vet ran xrays and found a mass on her bone. We quickly found a vet to do a biopsy and after a long wait, it was discovered that she had a severe and rare fungal bone infection. She initially responded well to Itraconazole, but this drug affected her kidneys so we need advanced IV treatments to destroy the spreading fungus. Java is everyone's friend in the neighborhood and anywhere she go. Neighbors speak to Java on our walks and she is always the topic of conversation with friends and neighbors. She has her crew of furry friends which entails more doggy play dates than her owner's social life. She is so curious and loves to play chase. She has a special bond with her human brother that is unbreakable. The cost of Java's treatment is above our means. The drug Java will need is more than a mortgage payment and we just can't afford to pay out-of-pocket. Her treatment involves outpatient hospital care three times a week for 6 weeks.

Talladega came into my life by miracle. She has been the best dog I could ever ask for. Her love and companionship is unspeakable. Even through everything she has been through; recently losing her best pal unexpectedly, moving 3 times, house fire, and now going through Parvovirus, her love is truly unconditional. She loves booty scratches and all the cuddles you could possibly give. Talladega tested positive for Parvovirus on 3/30/2025 at the West Lafayette Vet in Indiana. She is a strong fighter but currently feeling all of the effects from it. She is not wanting to eat currently and just wanting to sleep. The vet offers an antibody shot that helps fight Parvo faster and gives a better chance of survival. Due to Talladega's size, the cost is higher and not affordable for me. Talladega has a huge heart, she loves everybody she comes into contact with. She loves playing fetch with her ball or frisbee. She also enjoys finding sticks in the yard and helps pick them up for you to mow. Her favorite thing is to go to the creek. As pictured, she loves to find rocks she can stand on just to let the water flow by her. She loves learning new commands and making you proud. I recently lost her best friend due to complications from surgery. Due to covering the costs of that, this is an unexpected, urgent situation that I do not have the funds for. I am so scared to lose my baby girl as well. It breaks my heart seeing her like this.

We've had Derby since birth. Him and Indica are from the same litter. He has 4 dog sisters, 2 cat sisters and 1 cat brother. Gracie, 4 years old, Great Dane Bailey, 8 years old, black Lab Indica, 3 years old, Pit mix Skye, 11 months old, Australian shepherd JJ, 10 years old, cat Felix, 3 years old, cat Georgie, 3 years old, cat All are spayed/neutered Derby is a big meathead but he is the most gentle, loving dog. He is always at my feet or by my side. Whenever I get up he gets up and follows me everywhere. (Yes even to the bathroom). He loves my grandkids, especially the youngest, who is 6. He has always cuddled with them all but Derby is the biggest cuddler out of all of them. He has the sweetest disposition and always makes me smile. They all play well but Derby and Gracie have the most fun together. They will go to the opposite ends of the yard and charge each other and bump chests. Then they get the zoomies and do it all over again. We live in the country on the river and they all love going to the river and playing in the water with the grandkids. He has his own recliner on the porch to take naps in. Derby tested positive for heart worms on May 8th. He has finished his steroids and antibiotics and he is scheduled to get his two injections on July 17th and 18th. The hardest thing is trying to keep him calm during this. My husband and I are both on disability. (He has lung cancer and I have had 4 neck surgeries and a lot of other health issues) With the economy the way it is money is very tight. Gracie also tested positive and we have to pay the same amount out of pocket for her too.

Noodle

Noodle is a 10-month-old Blend in Quincy, FL, who needs $2,000 for Balloon Valvuloplasty.

Noodle came into our rescue with his three siblings, Oreo, Reese, and Potato. They were named by small children who fell in love with their kind eyes and sweet demeanors. The four were found in Thomasville, Georgia and were nursed back to health in the care of our rescue. Reese and Potato have since found their forever homes, but Noodle and Oreo are still patiently waiting for theirs. Noodle is a very sweet and calm gentleman. He is kenneled outside at our rescue with his sister, Oreo, and another similar sized dog, who you’d think was his twin. Even though he has never had a home of his own, he is an optimistic and playful little guy that is enjoying life as he knows it. He’s ready for his own home, but he doesn’t let that stop him from enjoying what he has now. Noodle loves playing with his sister and his kennel-mate, and he absolutely loves toys! He is very curious and you can watch him thinking as he moves his items around the kennel or he watches butterflies fly through the air. He is often very relaxed and just enjoys the company of humans and other dogs. He’s a very go-with-the-flow young dog. Noodle has been diagnosed with a Grade 5 heart murmur. His aortic valve is almost entirely closed and local vets gave him an estimated 6-12 months to live. He has no current symptoms, but he’s expected to go downhill quickly once they start. One vet referred us to Auburn University, who incredibly has a procedure that can help save his life. The heart surgery for Noodle will cost over $5000, but without it he will not live more than a year. This sweet boy deserves a chance at finding his forever home and living out a happy, healthy, and full life. Please help us save him!

Starving, weak, and desperate: Ami needs you!

At the start of October, SDS helped with a rescue case that broke their hearts. Ami was found near a local supermarket in Iloilo, Philippines. She wasn’t begging or causing trouble—just quietly searching for food. Starving, weak, and desperate, she was met not with compassion but with cruelty. Someone threw stones at her. When SDS saw the photos and videos of her, they broke down in tears. She was so severely emaciated that it’s a miracle she was still standing. Every bone in her body was visible. It truly looked like she only had days, maybe hours, left to live. That image has stayed with them since. Thankfully, their partner was able to reach her in time. Ami was rushed to the hospital, where she has been receiving intensive care ever since. During her check-up, vets discovered a massive tumor in her private area. She was immediately started on chemotherapy, and she has now completed her third session. Because they had to pay for all six sessions in advance, they were unable to complete their fundraising efforts beforehand. SDS urgently needs your help to recoup those costs and cover her ongoing hospitalization, which remains unpaid. And the good news is that Ami is showing signs of progress. 8 years ago I wasn’t looking to adopt a dog. I’d spent the previous 10 years living out of a suitcase in over 60 countries. But there was Princess Priya, quietly sitting in the corner while every other dog barked. The moment I held her, I knew she was special. On the drive home she placed her tiny paws over my heart and stared into my eyes the entire way, I promised her then I’d never leave her. Priya accidentally ate a grape and was rushed to emergency after suffering seizures from the ingestion. Thankfully she recovered, but the tests revealed a large liver tumor. She has since been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma. She urgently needs a CT scan to confirm it can safely be removed through surgery, which offers her the best chance at several more happy years. Priya means “beloved” in Hindi, and she truly is my baby beloved. She’s a 12-pound ball of unconditional love who has traveled the world beside me for eight years. She’s bravely protected me from black bears, tarantulas, pit bulls, and even Komodo dragons because she always believed keeping me safe was her job. She has loved me with her whole heart every day. Now it’s my turn to protect her. Due to government delays, I’ve been unable to work in the USA for 2yr while waiting for my green card to arrive. Our pet insurance was exhausted after the emergency. We’re only asking for help with CT scan and surgery, my husband is working multiple jobs to cover remaining.
