Meet Hodr! This incredible little boy spent months at animal control, where he spent his days huddled under a blanket. At only about 9 years old, he seemed much older because of his severe arthritis and near blindness. Time and again, he was passed by—until Chessed Foundation Rescue found him and gave him a chance. Since arriving in rescue, Hodr has completely blossomed in his foster home. He is gaining confidence every day and has turned into an absolute Velcro dog, staying close to his foster mom like glue. In fact, it's a good thing he only weighs 4 pounds because Hodr loves spending his days zipped into her sweatshirt! While his veterinarians don't feel there is much that can be done for his vision or joints, there is still an important step that can help give Hodr the best possible future. Chessed Foundation Rescue has made the decision to have him neutered, which will reduce his cancer risk and also help make him more adoptable. After spending so long overlooked at the shelter, Hodr finally has a safe place to call home and people who believe in him. Help Jax Recover After Being Hit by a Car

Jax is one of the coolest dogs the rescue has ever had! He is laid-back, happy about everything, and friendly to everyone—adults, kids, men, women, dogs, and cats. He truly loves them all. Jax has no teeth, so his tongue is always hanging out, giving him a uniquely adorable look. But as a senior dog, finding the right home can be difficult, and Jax has now been at Chessed Foundation Rescye for almost six months. Unfortunately, over the past month, Jax has started showing his age and exhibiting the beginning signs of dementia. Then, last week, something terrifying happened. During his usual 6 a.m. walk with his foster dad, a loud noise suddenly spooked Jax. He pulled the leash from his dad's hand and ran into the street. The noise was coming from a car speeding down the road, and the car ran right over Jax. Thankfully, Jax mostly went underneath the car. His foster dad immediately rushed him to the emergency hospital, where Jax received a full examination, X-rays, and ultrasounds. Thankfully, Jax's injuries were limited to a bruised hip and road rash. He is expected to make a full recovery, but the emergency visit and care resulted in a veterinary bill of more than $1,400. After everything Jax has already been through, we are asking for help covering the cost of his emergency care. Any donation toward Jax's veterinary bill would be deeply appreciated and will help ease the financial burden of this unexpected expense. Nori Needs Surgery to Keep Her Family Whole

Meet Nori, a sweet 7-year-old Dachshund mix from Florida who has been a loyal companion, protector, and beloved member of her family for years. Now, this devoted little dog needs her family to be there for her. Nori's journey began when her mom rescued her stray mother, Cinnamon, who later gave birth to Nori. From the very beginning, Nori was meant to be part of this family—and she has spent the past seven years filling their lives with love. She has traveled across the country with her mom, been her constant companion, and became a beloved protector and childhood friend to her granddaughter. During thunderstorms, Nori would hide under the blankets with her family, always finding comfort in the people she loved most. But recently, everything changed. Nori's family discovered a mass near her anus. She was initially treated with medication for an infection, but the mass has remained and now needs to be surgically removed. Her surgery is estimated to cost approximately $800–$920. Thankfully, Nori's family has already received a $400 grant, but they still need to raise an additional $400 to help cover the remaining cost of her surgery. For Nori's mom, this isn't simply a veterinary bill. Nori is her ride-or-die companion, her granddaughter's childhood protector, and the best friend she never knew she needed. For four years, Jules has called Vegas Roots Rescue home. Jules first came to the rescue while she was pregnant and in need of a safe place to land. She gave birth to her puppies, watched them find their forever homes, and then began waiting for a family of her own. Four years later, she is still waiting. Over the years, Jules has watched countless dogs come and go as they found the families they had been waiting for. Yet somehow, this sweet Pit Bull Terrier continues to be overlooked. Not because she isn't deserving of a home, but because sometimes even the most loving dogs wait far too long for someone to choose them. Despite years without adoption interest, Jules has never stopped loving people. She continues to greet each day with hope and trusts the volunteers who have cared for her throughout her long stay. The team at Vegas Roots Rescue has never given up on her, and they want to make sure Jules has everything she needs while she continues waiting for her person. After spending so much of her life in rescue, Jules deserves the opportunity to continue learning and growing so she can be as prepared as possible when her forever family finally comes along. Born Blind, Crow Is Now Facing Seizures

At just 2.5 years old, Crow has been navigating the world a little differently his entire life. This sweet Standard Poodle was born blind and came to The Animal Pad from a breeder who was unable to sell him or his sister because they were both born without their sight. Despite being blind, Crow is an incredibly cuddly, sweet and loving dog. He does great with other dogs and kids and loves being close to the people around him. Some of his favorite things are playing with squeaky toys, wrestling with other dogs, cuddling and, of course, eating. Since coming into the care of The Animal Pad, Crow has been working on the skills that will help him navigate life with more confidence. He is learning bathroom, crate and leash training and is even working with a blind dog specialist to help him make the most of his other senses. Crow’s blindness was evaluated by a neurologist and determined to be congenital, meaning it is a condition he was born with. More recently, however, Crow has developed another concerning medical issue. Crow has unfortunately begun suffering from seizures. He was prescribed anti-seizure medication to help manage them, but has since experienced behavioral changes following the medication. His medical needs now require continued attention as his care team works to manage his seizures and determine the best path forward for him. Being blind has never stopped Crow from enjoying his life, playing with other dogs or soaking up affection from the people around him. Now he needs help as he faces this new medical challenge. The Animal Pad is committed to giving Crow the specialized care and support he needs. Between his neurological needs, seizure management, medication and the additional support that comes with caring for a blind dog, Crow’s journey requires resources beyond routine veterinary care. Dexter Can’t Bend His Back Legs, But Nothing Stops Him

At just 2.5 years old, Dexter has already experienced more uncertainty than any dog should. This affectionate Belgian Malinois mix once had a home and someone who loved him, but after his owner passed away, everything changed. Dexter had been living with an older woman in the Los Angeles area along with three other dogs. Following her passing, the dogs needed somewhere new to go. The other three found places with residents in the community, but no one was willing to take Dexter. He was eventually put out on the streets, where he spent approximately two days with people experiencing homelessness. Thankfully, a friend of The Animal Pad learned what had happened and reached out to the rescue for help. The Animal Pad stepped in and took Dexter into their care, ensuring he would no longer have to face his uncertain future alone. Dexter is a special needs dog with a significant condition affecting both of his rear legs. His back legs are immobile and cannot bend, and it is currently unclear whether he was born this way or suffered an injury earlier in his life. But Dexter refuses to let his legs define him. Despite his condition, Dexter is remarkably mobile. He walks upright without assistance, enjoys going on outdoor walks, and is not incontinent. He loves playing with toys and will happily join in a game of fetch or tug of war. He’s treat motivated, affectionate, cuddly, and from the way he seeks out love, it’s easy to imagine that he spent plenty of time as a lap dog with his former owner. After losing the person and home he knew, Dexter deserves stability and the chance to receive the care and support he needs for his unusual hind leg condition. Help Zoom Recover From a Life Changing Amputation

When Zoom arrived at Helping Hands Humane Society in late March, he was underweight and had a slight limp in his left hind leg. After a few days of good food, rest, and anti-inflammatory medication, he gained weight and the limp appeared to improve. He was neutered and went up for adoption at that time. Like many shelter dogs, Zoom hit a few bumps during his humane society journey. He came down with and recovered from kennel cough and received treatment for chronic ear inflammation. Then his limp returned and became noticeably worse. Our veterinary team began another round of exams, x-rays, and orthopedic evaluations to find the cause. Those x-rays revealed that Zoom’s left hip was abnormal, and surgery was scheduled to perform a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO). Once surgery began, however, the team discovered an old fracture that had already started healing in the wrong position. The damaged bone had fused into the hip socket, making the original surgery impossible without causing further damage. To give Zoom the best chance at a comfortable future, his vets made the difficult decision to amputate his left hind leg. Zoom’s staples are now out, his incision is healing nicely, and he has finished his medications. He has officially been cleared for adoption, but undergoing a major amputation is no small journey. Zoom is now adjusting to life as a tripod and looking for the family who will be there for his next chapter. A conservative estimate of the direct care invested in Zoom includes: • Veterinary exams and follo up care • Neuter surgery • Sedated x-rays and orthopedic diagnostics • Major orthopedic surgery (left hind leg amputation) • Pain medications and antibiotics • Treatment for kennel cough and chronic ear issues • 130+ days of food, housing, enrichment, laundry, cleaning, and daily care ($15 per day) Estimated direct care invested in Zoom: More than $3,000. These are conservative estimates of the direct medical treatment and daily care Zoom has received while at HHHS. They do not include staff time, utilities, facility costs, or the many other behind-the-scenes expenses that go into caring for a shelter dog with significant medical needs. Zoom has been through so much to get to this point, and HHHS has been there for him every step of the way. Baby Weenie was picked up on Wednesday from Breeder as we were driving back home the pet began vomiting and having diarrhea. Pet was not eating and took her emergency vet care. Took Baby Weenie to emergency vet care and she was diagnosed with parvo. The vet bill has been growing as she needs additional hospitalization stay days and has gone beyond our means. We had only had her in our care for hours before things went south so she has spent most of her time at the hospital so we have not got a chance to bond with her. This was a very unexpected expense and what was supposed to be a happy time to adopt a puppy took an unexpected turn for the worst. We are so sad that we haven’t had a chance to spend a lot of time with her and are hoping for the best

Oreo is a 4 year old Labrador Retriever in Apex, NC, who needs $10,000 for Wound care and possible amputation.

Oreo has been part of our family since she was a puppy. We also had both of her parents, so we have loved and cared for her from the very beginning of her life. She is now four years old and has grown into a sweet, affectionate black-and-white Labrador mix who fills our home with love every day. Until today, Oreo was a healthy 4-year-old Lab mix. This morning, while walking at Jordan Lake before work, she was attacked by an off-leash dog. We rushed her to Peak Paws Advanced Veterinary Hospital in Apex. The attack nearly severed a major artery. She needs wound care every 2-3 days and may require amputation. Oreo is the gentlest dog we’ve ever known. She loves children, gets along beautifully with other dogs and even cats, and has never shown aggression toward anyone. She’s playful but always respectful of other dogs’ space. Her sweet, loving nature has made her a cherished member of our family and a friend to everyone she meets. We recently opened our own auto repair shop and have invested everything into getting our business off the ground. Because our credit is tied up with startup loans, we were denied CareCredit and Scratchpay. Oreo’s emergency care is more than we can afford today. Please help us help Oreo.
