Alex Is Fighting For His Life

Phoenix, AZ • Alyarz Pet Club Association Inc

Alex has been fighting for his life for months, and after everything he has endured, he still needs help. Alex was originally found on the streets of Lebanon in terrible condition. He was severely dehydrated and emaciated, with painful ulcers inside his mouth. He was also diagnosed as FIV-positive. Since being rescued, Alex has been in and out of the hospital as his veterinary team searches for answers. His most persistent problem has been a severe, chronic ulcer on his tongue accompanied by excessive drooling. The inflammation and pain have made something as basic as eating incredibly difficult. Doctors eventually determined that Alex was also suffering from neuritis, believed to be related to a previous traumatic injury to his face. The nerve damage makes it difficult for him to control his tongue and mouth, causing his tongue to hang out and leaving him drooling constantly. The moisture has also caused painful irritation to the skin around his face and discoloration of his fur since he is unable to groom himself. Veterinarians have tried everything they can to give Alex relief. He has undergone multiple dental extractions, extensive diagnostic testing, repeated cultures, several courses of antibiotics and supportive care. At one point, Alex needed a feeding tube so his mouth could rest while he continued receiving nutrition. Unfortunately, his painful tongue lesion and inflammation have persisted despite treatment. Now Alex is facing another serious setback. Recent bloodwork revealed that his hematocrit had fallen to just 11.3%, leaving him severely anemic and potentially in need of a blood transfusion. His white blood cell count was also significantly elevated, indicating that his body is continuing to battle severe inflammation or another underlying problem. Alex has once again been hospitalized, where he is receiving IV support and vitamins while his veterinary team works to stabilize him and determine what is causing his worsening anemia. After months of hospital stays, procedures, medications, testing and around-the-clock care, Alex’s medical expenses continue to grow. His rescuers have never given up on him, but they cannot do this alone. We are hoping to raise at least $3,000 to help cover Alex’s ongoing hospitalization, diagnostic testing, medications and supportive care. Alex has already survived so much. Through months of pain and uncertainty, he has continued fighting. Please consider donating to help give this sweet boy the medical care he needs to keep going. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings Alex one step closer to the comfort and healing he deserves.

Tigress

Tigress needs your help to overcome cancer.

Grandview, TN • Flying Pigs Sanctuary

Meet Tigress. She came into the lives of Flying Pigs Sanctuary during a rescue that they say none of them will ever forget. They were originally called to help a pig whose owner had passed away suddenly. The pig had been confined indoors for over seven years and was unable to walk. While they were working to get him to safety, they learned there were other animals still on the property. That’s when they met this sweet girl. What they saw that day was heartbreaking. Tigress was suffering from one of the worst skin conditions they had ever seen. Her back and neck were covered in raw, painful wounds that had clearly been untreated for a very long time. The family loved her but simply didn’t have the resources to get her the veterinary care she desperately needed. She was 12, and had NEVER been to a vet. Although their sanctuary was already at capacity and they could not take Tigress in permanently, they could not walk away from her suffering. They committed to getting her the care she deserved and to helping her find a place where she could live out her remaining time surrounded by love. After veterinary evaluation, they learned the wounds on her back and neck were cancerous tumors. Even though their veterinary team was able to surgically remove them, the cancer came back. Tigress is an old lady and what she needs now is to simply to be loved. Despite everything she has endured, Tigress remains incredibly affectionate with people. She craves human attention and lights up when someone spends time with her. She is potty trained, enjoys going for walks on or off the leash and has been very easy to care for in a home setting. She is a bit stiff these days, so she is currently on joint and pain medication to keep her comfortable but she’s found sanctuary, and we will love her until it’s her time. If you would also like to show Tigress some love, please donate any amount that you can. It will go directly toward paying her medical bills and giving her the best care possible. Thank you.

Help Colt Fight Sepsis After a Traumatic Birth

Fleming, GA • Leap of Faith Equine Rescue and Sanctuary

Just days into his life, Colt is already fighting for survival. Born on May 6, this precious foal arrived after a difficult and traumatic foaling that quickly became an emergency. During birth, Colt was without oxygen for a period of time, leaving his fragile body struggling to stabilize in those critical first moments of life. Leap of Faith Equine Rescue and Sanctuary rushed Colt for emergency veterinary care, where he was diagnosed with sepsis — a life threatening infection that can quickly become fatal in newborn foals without immediate intensive treatment. Right now, Colt is receiving critical hospital care, medications, diagnostics, and around the clock monitoring from his veterinary team. Despite such a frightening start to life, his doctors remain hopeful and believe he has an excellent chance of recovery with continued treatment and support. Even through everything, Colt is showing the heart of a fighter. Emergency neonatal care for foals is incredibly expensive, and the costs continue to grow with hospitalization, medications, and supportive treatment needed to keep him stable and healing. Funds from this campaign will help Leap of Faith Equine Rescue and Sanctuary cover: Emergency hospitalization Sepsis treatment and medications Oxygen and supportive care Veterinary monitoring and diagnostics Ongoing recovery needs Leap of Faith Equine Rescue and Sanctuary acted immediately to give Colt every possible chance at life, but they cannot do it alone. Please help this sweet baby continue fighting toward recovery, strength, and the healthy future he deserves. Every donation and share truly makes a difference for Colt.
