Tater Tot was adopted from Shelbyville Animal Control when I was in college to become a veterinary technician. When he first came to the school he was severely emaciated and absolutely terrified. It took a long time for him to begin to trust even just a few of us students. Prior to animal control catching him he was a stray. Right before Thanksgiving break I decided to take him home. Tater is such a character and absolutely loves to cuddle up with everybody. He and our little male cat are often found snuggled up together. He loves to run around the house throwing his toys up in the air (especially his stuffed squirrel). He’s so silly and gets so excited whenever we order pizza that he will even howl at us (have you ever heard a chihuahua howl?!) Unfortunately with all the testing and first two weeks of chemo I’ve exhausted my savings and will have spent all of my recent pay. I desperately need help with his ongoing chemo. I can’t imagine being without him and he’s still so young and full of life. Tot was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and will need chemo to help him keep comfortable for as long as possible. Without treatment he would pass in a matter of weeks. I have already done bloodwork, cytology, urinalysis, xrays and ultrasound. He started steroids and will get his first two weeks of chemo starting Monday. His oncologist is Dr.Wood at Indyvet in Indiana. Ever since day one he’s made everyone smile even after a really rough day. He’s always being goofy and is so energetic. He’s oddly talkative for such a little dog! He’s constantly following us around when we are home and always has to be the center of attention. He loves to curl up under a blanket with us at the end of the night and watch tv.

Help a Small Shelter Save Joker's Life

Joker suffers from severe, chronic ear disease that has persisted for years despite extensive medical treatment. Repeated infections and ongoing inflammation have permanently damaged the delicate structures within his ear canals, causing him chronic pain and discomfort. Although medications, medicated ear cleanings, specialty care, and strict dietary management have helped control his allergies and improve his skin, they can no longer reverse the irreversible damage to his ears. His veterinary dermatologist has determined that medical management alone is no longer enough. The recommended treatment is a Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA), a specialized surgical procedure in which the diseased ear canal is removed and the infected tissue is cleaned out to eliminate the source of chronic pain and infection. While the surgery results in loss of hearing in the affected ear, dogs with longstanding chronic ear disease often already have little functional hearing due to years of damage. TECA is widely considered the gold standard treatment for end-stage chronic ear disease and offers the best opportunity for lasting pain relief and a dramatically improved quality of life. Because both of Joker's ears have been affected, he may ultimately require TECA surgery on both sides. The cost of this specialized surgery typically ranges from $4,000 to $7,000 per ear, depending on the complexity of the case, the surgeon, and postoperative care. For a small nonprofit shelter already stretched to its financial limits, this represents an expense that is simply beyond our ability to absorb. Without surgery, Joker will continue to endure painful, recurring infections that become increasingly difficult to manage. Our greatest fear is that his pain will eventually reach a point where humane euthanasia becomes the only compassionate option—not because his condition is untreatable, but because we cannot afford the treatment that could save him from a lifetime of suffering.

Tux came from a family of 12 where the gaggle of kids was his own flock of sheep to protect. Because his Border Collie instincts, he developed reactivity and had to be rehomed. He almost got put down, but that's when my boyfriend - now husband - and I took a chance on him. And he proved his true character. Tux is wicked smart, super athletic, and is the sweetest boy. He deserves a long loved life. But on 7/19 Tux became frighteningly woozy, lethargic, and had bloody urine. The incredible emergency vets at Mountain West Veterinary Specialists were sought out. They determined that Tux was in life or death crisis with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. They walked us through his chances of survival and we decided we had to at least try and save him. Thanks to them, he has a fighting chance. Border Collies are the smartest dogs around, and Tux is definitely among the smartest. He always finds a way to get what he wants - usually fetch or peanut butter. Tux will come sit by us and give us his paw until we hold his hand. He LOVES his butt to be scratched. And he loves to swim and play in lakes. Most of all, we love him and we know he knows it. That's why we're trying sohard to save him. My husband is dealing with his own auto immune disease (like father like son, right?) and recently lost his job. Further, I was laid off in February and am currently underemployed. We are just trying to keep our heads above water and keep Tux safe. Thank you for your help <3

After moving from California, it was time to bring a furry friend into our new home. We searched through Facebook until we found the perfect little puppy. Three years have passed since finding Charlotte, or Charlie as we call her. Charlie lives with several cats that adore her more than she does them. Despite an injury, she happily plays in our spacious backyard, where we all live together. A few months ago, Charlie injured her ACL while playing in the backyard. Despite our best efforts to avoid surgery, we were sadly unsuccessful, and Charlie continues to experience pain. We are devastated to say she needs surgery. Our ultimate goal is for Charlie to return to a life with little to no pain. The vets at Banfield Pet Hospital are confident they can help us achieve this goal. Charlie is defiantly a princess. She likes her bones, balls, and playing tug-of-war. She loves dog parks and making new friends. Known for her vocal expressions, she's not shy about sharing her thoughts. Charlie makes a great alarm system. Hoses, sprinklers, or kiddie pools are not her friend, but she loves rivers and lakes. Friendly and outgoing, she thrives on meeting new people everywhere we go Jill had a change in her job situation, leaving us to rely on John's income. We were then forced out of our home with no money. As a result, we had to borrow just to get by. As we settle into our new home, all we really want is for our baby taken care of.

Bruiser, a rescue dog in need of care, was found covered in fleas, scratched, and suffering from worms. With love and care, he healed and became my loyal Emotional Support Animal. Now a beloved family member, he thrives alongside his chihuahua sisters, Bella and Bailey, filling our home with love and joy. This month, Bruiser will undergo seizure testing at Jones Animal Hospital in Crystal City, Missouri. It’s heartbreaking to see him struggle, but he’s family and my Emotional Support Animal. While the cost is overwhelming, I’m exploring every option to get him the care he needs. Bruiser, a gentle and well-tempered dog, is incredibly lovable. His soft-spoken demeanor and adorable side-eye when curious or seeking attention make him irresistible. He also has a favorite spot for scratches—his butt—which brings him pure joy. His sweet nature and lovable personality brighten my daily life. Recently diagnosed with cancer, I’m facing emotional and financial challenges and can’t afford Bruiser’s seizure care. As my loyal Emotional Support Animal, he’s been my comfort during this time. It’s heartbreaking to see him struggle, but I’m determined to find help!

Gunnar came into our lives on St. Patrick's Day of 2016. He was 7 months old at the time and an acquaintance was attempting to rehome him. We jumped at the chance to adopt this beautiful boy and he's done nothing but enhance our lives and fill our home with love ever since. Gunnar is the best good boy anyone could ever ask for. He is so smart, and so loving, and so gentle and calm. He is the best brother to his fur-sister, Bella. They love to play and run on the trails beside our house. His favorite thing to do is to snuggle up with his dad every evening when he gets home from work. Gunnar loves to run and play. He loves to "talk" to other dogs that pass by our house, and he loves to "sing" about his favorite fur friends when their names are mentioned, or when he sees them. He loves chicken and cheese and his daily dog treats, and he loves to go "bye bye" for car rides. In February 2024 Gunnar was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on his neck. The vet assured us surgery is the only option. The surgery to remove the tumor, and additional medications, will cost around $2300 to $2500. With the current state of the economy, and after struggling financially after Covid, we simply do not have the financial ability to provide this surgery on our own. We would give anything to have Gunnar back to his old playful self and free from pain again.

In the beginning of October 2020, my brother sent me a picture of a dog and said "My friend needs to give her away due to living situations. Can you take her? I immediately said "Yes!" Growing up I was terrified of Pit Bulls, but I knew in my heart by looking at her picture that she was the sweetest dog EVER! On 10/15/2020, Nova joined my family:) Nova was the missing piece to my puzzle - she was made just for me! She sleeps with me every night. She loves her treats (plus more!), she loves going to the dog park, playing with toys, watching tv, being lazy, she loves to give a bunch of kisses, she loves EVERYONE! She interacts with everyone very well whether it be other pets (cat or dog) and people. She REALLY loves babies! There is never a sad day in my household because Nova always makes things better. Every morning I wake up I look forward to seeing her face staring at me ready to go outside! Our favorite activity is when my bedroom door is closed she knocks on it with her nose a few times until I answer it. I open the door and say "what's up?!" and she takes off! She does this for about 10-15 minutes. On January 28th, my baby and I woke up and took a morning walk like normal. I cleaned up around the house and then we both took a nap. I woke up and noticed her back left hind leg was lame. I immediately rushed her to the emergency room. They told me she has a CCL tear. I decided to take her to Buckeystown Veterinary Hospital and they told me TPLO surgery is needed. This was so unexpected and not something I wanted for my baby. It is $4703 and a major expense that I am not able to afford. It would mean the world to me to get my girl the care she needs. I'm looking forward to the day when Nova outruns me at the dog park again.

I rescued Lucky form the streets of Chicago. He is a Shitzu Mix and lives with me alone in the suburbs. I am a senior Veteran and Lucky is my best companion asI live alone. I have limited income resources and will require additional funding to sustain his medical care which I manage on my own with social security as my main source of income. Living alone with Lucky provides me with a reliable companion in my senior years. We both have chronic health issues and without him I would face medical challenges on my own. With Lucky I can see how his quality of life is enhanced with his monthly medical treatments and restores him to a healthy and loving pet and companion. Lucky has a proud little peppy strut he exhibits as he walks. He like to wake me from my nap when it's time for his feeding. He knows which buttons to push to ask for affection or when he's under stress from his re-occurring health conditions. Lucky has required medical attention since the day I rescued him. One clinic has already exhausted all their treatment options for his gastrointestinal/salivary issues that constantly irritate his throat and put his breathing at risk. He is currently seen by MedVet where he has had two emergency procedures to clear his airway. The veterinary team is sustaining him as long as I can sustain his life. I am a Vietnam Era Veteran and senior citizen who lives on social security as my main source of income. Having Lucky's health managed with his monthly meds and treatments provide me with a loving and cheerful pet that brings me joy and companionship more than I hope for.
