Nala was given to me by someone who said she couldn't keep her. We accepted her as the heavenly gift she is. Nala kept a tennis ball in her mouth constantly except for eating and drinking, for about 8 years. We have 3 other dogs in the household, and she loves them all and they love her. She has the name "Nala" because she looks like a lion cub. Nala has a tumor on her liver and needs a liver lobectomy. The prognosis is very good, and it is expected that she will go on with the rest of her life. This tumor has a very low chance of ever re-occurring. Nala felt abandoned by her previous owner and had severe emotional problems for some time after coming to us. My husband, now deceased, took her into his heart as his own child. The two of them were glued together. When he died, I have tried to be both Mommy and Daddy to her. When my husband died, we lost his income. I'm working, but this vet expense was not expected or planned for and is much more than expected. This is a very well-respected hospital and surgeon, and it is not expected to re-occur. Her life is very much worth saving.

Branson is in desperate need. We got him when he was 12wks old. My son who just was killed Aug 31, 2023 was so happy to finally be able to have a big dog in the family and drove me all the way to Ohio to get him. Branson has a heart of gold, he goes everywhere with us, He loves to swim, play ball, and hang out with the kids. My kid's dad passed in June 2023 Branson stayed by his side throughout and supported him when he had to get out of the chair or bed. I had a stroke and he watched over me until help arrived. I am Branson main person; he watches and helps us. Both my son 22 years old and my husband just passed 4 months ago it has left just my 17 yr. old and myself. Branson watches the house, yard and both of us. Branson's is like my child; he goes with me everywhere. Branson has been so much support since our passings in the family, don't think I would have made it this far without him. This morning Branson and I were out back playing, and all of a sudden, he yipped. I ran over to him, and he was bleeding from his mouth. About 20 minutes the bleeding had stopped. 40 minutes later he started pouring blood from his rectum. Branson is my baby I cried for him all the way driving him to the hospital. After waiting about an hour, we are told he was bitten by a snake. Our bill is est. to be $4500 - $5701. My son (17yr) and I live on SSI. My husband of 30 years and my son 22 years old just passed one in June and my son the end of Aug. I have had 2 funerals in the last 4 months. We have no savings even left. Please Please help Branson

My dog Bella came into my life about four years ago she lives with me and my dog blue. She’s about six years old. She is full of energy full life. We live in a one bedroom apartment. She is so much fun and such a big part of our lives About three weeks ago, I took my dog to the dog park to run around and be free and she tore her ACL now she needs surgery because of the surgery is $2700. Yankee Hill veterinarian has looked at her and is going to do the surgery as soon as I can come up with the money any help that I could get would be greatly appreciated. My dog’s best friend is blue also known as booger. They are the two bestest friends. They do everything together play together sleep together run together tease me together. The three of us are inseparable. It just breaks my heart. Did I get to see her every day in the pain that she’s in, I’m not being her playful self. She’s got a big heart. It just hurts me bad to see her like this. I have had lots of medical issues with my neck in my back, which has kept me from working a full-time job my dogs mean everything to me and I mean everything to them. Pookie is a Scnauzer-poodle dog (A Schnoodle:). Pookie turned 10 this month. Pookie is a hilarious dog. If we go outside and return, we are either greeted by Pookie’s nose trying to pry open the door, or she is standing on top of the dining room table still looking to see where we went in the first place. She then doesn’t move until we pick her up and hold her for an inordinate period of time lol. Pookie looks like she’s smiling a lot of time when I see her. She looks at me with her cheerful face like she’s saying she is so happy with her life. Our cat Pickles is Pookies best friend. She is a long haired cat and the two of them chase each other, wrestle, and play ball. Pookie gets up with me immediately when I sit up in morning. I bring her over to Pickles so she can give Pickles a morning kiss. Pookie and Pickles touch noses and Pookie smells him and Pickles starts purring. Pookie loves cuddling with us, getting kisses, nice pets, and hugs, and her snacks. Pookie is a foodie. But Pookie loves nothing more than climbing on top of a pile of blankets and pillows and lying down at the very top. Pookie loves my parents and loves to get in the car to see “grandma and grandpa” which Pookie jumps around just hearing their name and wags her tail when she hears them on speaker. Pookie is just always there with us and I can’t bare losing her right now if there is a way to save her and live out her normal years. Pookie has a mitral valve tear in her cardiovascular system. As a result, the valve is kicking back blood into the heart and her heart is severely enlarged. I told the surgeon yesterday that she really does have a huge heart.❤️ Her veterinarian said that she will go into heart failure sometime this year. I did research on mitral Valve surgery and they are actually doing what is called a TEER surgery which clamps the torn area of the leaky valve back together. As a result, the leaking lessens or stops and her heart will go back to normal size, and it will no longer be leaning on her trachea as it is now and making her gag and cough and making breathing difficult. Upstate Veterinary Specialists cardiology department is run by the Chief of Cardiology Dr. Wey. I met with him yesterday. He was a very kind man who was also very smart, and he said that Pookie is right now appropriate for the surgery but she can’t wait much longer. My husband and I do not have children and our animals mean everything to us. We are both extremely sensitive to animals needs and the positive impact they have on the world. Although I was a psychologist for children for many years, I had to stop working due to a brain injury. I can’t be out of the house as much as I was before and so I am with Pookie and Pickles all day, and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I spend a lot of my day caring for Pookie and Pickles and we play for long periods together. Pookies unconditional love of me and her love of my company keeps me going even when I’m not feeling well. Being home with her all day has been the greatest gift. It’s just too soon for her to leave if there is something available to totally reverse her heart trouble. Her heart and her overall health are good. It’s the mitral valve surgery that could give her the rest of her life back. Pookie’s mitral valve surgery TEER is 18000.00. It’s a specialty that only about three other hospitals do in the country. We live in New York and the surgery is don’t in one hospital upstate. We have insurance for Pookie a while now but when we signed her ip, Pookie had a mild murmur that I didn’t think would matter, but everything heart related is not covered. Everything lately has been heart related, including many vet visits, medication, echocardiograms and X-rays which we have been paying for. We want to go through with the surgery if Pookie will be able to have her big heart put back together in her little body:)

Luna is our 4 year old fawn French Bulldog. We got her the day before the solar eclipse in August of 2017, hence her name, LUNA. She is our WILD child. My husband says she has moves better than O'dell Beckham! If she was a full sized, larger breed dog, we would most definitely be in trouble:) LOL! Luna is my husband's life. I tell him that he loves that dog more than me and he will agree with that on most days! LOL. Seriously, she could definitely be his emotional support dog. She brings joy and comfort and lifts his spirits and makes everything better. It's almost as if she has a second intuition and knows when he is having a bad day. I took a $1000/month paycut to work closer to home in 2019. March 2020 my husband lost his job due to covid and has not been back to work. Money is tight. We have some money to help toward an MRI but would appreciate any we could get in meeting our goal to pay in full. The rear paralysis struck within a matter of two hours. She was eating and my daughter said "Luna just fell over". I didn't think anything of it. Next thing I know, she's dragging her hind legs. She has a preliminary diagnosis of IVDD but we can't be sure what treatment she will need until she has an MRI. VCA Regional in Chattanooga will be completing her treatment and possible surgery. We are lucky to even have Luna. She ran away not once, but twice--in the middle of the night--chasing either a deer or rabbit both times. The first time we were out for six hours before finding her. The next time it happened, it was 11 hrs she was gone and someone had found her--4 miles away--and actually called the pound and her chip was scanned and I received a call she was safe.

Wallie

My son rescued Wallie from a very busy highway on morning in December of 2022. Later, a city worker told him that Wallie looked like the dog that had been abandoned at a nearby dog park. We assume he managed to escape and made it to the highway where my son saw him almost get run over. We do not his story only that he is between 3 to 4 yes old and heartworm positive. He is a pretty chill dog. He is quiet, obedient and a really great dog. He rides very well in a car as well. He gets along well with my other 2 dogs but because of the abuse and God only knows what this poor guy he has suffered, it is probably best if he is the only dog. He needs lots of love and attention. He is a pretty goofy dog. He loves to cuddle and is very playful. He is an attention hog and loves for you to constantly pet him. He loves to lay right next to you and look up at you. He is afraid of thunderstorms. He will run and hide when the storms start. He loves to run and play when you let him outside. He also loves to sunbathe. He was vetted the very next day where he received his vaccines and was tested for heartworms. His test came back positive. We do not know how long he has been positive. I cannot afford to begin the treatments. I have 2 other dogs and 1 is also a rescue. I am a single older woman who lives on a tight budget. It would mean the world to know he will have a chance at a happy and long life. My son and I wish we could rescue them all. Between the 2 of us, we now have 3 rescues. Wallie is the 3rd one.

Hootie came home. He does not have FIV or Leukemia — a huge blessing. But he’s still carrying the scars of survival. He has a fractured tooth, likely from being hit by a car. He’s anemic. He was covered in ticks and will likely be diagnosed with Lyme disease. He has a heart murmur and came home on a long list of medications. At 10 years old, Hootie should have been someone’s companion, someone’s snuggle buddy — not outside fighting to survive. Instead, he was left to fend for himself for who knows how long. Now, even though his space is small, it is safe. There is food. Water. A soft bed. Gentle hands. A place to rest his tired body and learn what love feels like again. While healing in quarantine, Hootie has worked up quite the appetite — and Castaway Critters is dangerously low on food for him and the 100+ animals in their care. After surviving starvation, parasites, and flea anemia, these animals deserve full bowls and nourishing meals. Food isn’t just comfort — it’s critical to their recovery. I’ve only had Abraham for 4 days, but I went to great lengths to save him. I flew out, brought him back home, and took him straight to the vet and ER when I knew something was wrong. He was originally named Alfie, but I chose to name him Abraham, reflecting faith and hope. He was neglected, passed between shelters, even left near train tracks, and returned by a previous owner. Abraham is currently being treated for serious respiratory issues, including suspected pneumonia and infections, and tested positive for anaplasmosis. He is under care at an emergency veterinary hospital receiving oxygen and supportive treatment. His condition is critical, and ongoing care is needed to give him a real chance at recovery. Abraham has a quiet strength about him. Even when he’s weak, he still tries to connect, wag his tail, and be close. He’s incredibly gentle with people and other dogs, and you can feel how much love he has to give. He deserves the chance to heal and finally experience a safe, full life. I rescued Abraham because I could tell something wasn’t right. He seemed weak, but still gentle and trusting, and I felt an immediate responsibility to help him. It wasn’t until I got him to the vet that I learned how critical his condition really is.

Ruffles came into my life 5 years ago and they’ve been the best years of my life. Her mama, who is no longer with us, gave me the best gift and I’ve had her since the very moment she was born. She got her name, Ruffles, because she had the fluffiest and most ruffled coat as a kitten, and although her fur has changed as she’s gotten older her name is still so perfect to me. Ruffles was seen at Noah’s Ark (Ft. Wright, Ky) on February 17, 2025. No pet parent wants to hear the C word, but I have to prepare for the fact that my girl may be battling cancer. We will have more answers soon, but regardless she will need surgery either way to remove the mass in question. (Its in her mouth and causing a lot of pain) We’re looking at close to $3,000 possibly and she needs help. Ruffles is the glue to our family, she has 6 other siblings, one technically being her grandfather, great uncle, and half brother Angus. She is the sweetest girl you could ever meet, the most delicate and gentle baby. She loves to play with her siblings and she loves cuddling up with her mama because I’m her safe place. She’s quirky as can be and brings so much light and love to our lives. This prognosis was completely unexpected and blindsided me, and I unfortunately am not in a place where I have an emergency fund to lean on. I don’t make a lot of money, but I want the very best for her. I just want to see her healthy and happy again. She deserves the world.
