Thrown Away at 12, Tofu Still Deserves a Second Chance

At 12 years old, Tofu should have been spending her golden years surrounded by love and comfort. Instead, she was cruelly thrown from a moving car and left behind. Thankfully, a compassionate witness saw what happened and brought her to the safety of Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption, where she is finally receiving the care she deserves. As Tofu began settling into rescue, she developed a persistent cough and was taken to the veterinarian for evaluation. During her examination, the veterinary team discovered that she may be suffering from congestive heart failure, a serious condition that requires ongoing monitoring and treatment. Tofu has already started heart medication in hopes of improving her condition and helping her breathe more comfortably. While her rescue team remains hopeful that the medication will help, she will continue to need veterinary care as they monitor her response to treatment and determine the best plan for her future. This fundraiser will help cover Tofu's veterinary examinations, diagnostics, medications, and ongoing medical care as Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption works to give this sweet senior girl the comfort and quality of life she deserves. After everything Tofu has been through, she deserves kindness instead of cruelty, comfort instead of fear, and a future where she is surrounded by love. Thank you for helping Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption give Tofu the second chance she deserves. 7/31/26 Update: Tofu Is Doing Well and Still Needs Our Support We’re happy to share an update on Tofu and how she’s doing as she continues her journey toward finding a forever home. After developing fluid in her lungs, Tofu’s condition was successfully managed with medication. Thankfully, she has responded well to treatment and is now being weaned off the medication used to control the fluid. However, Tofu’s heart murmur still requires ongoing monitoring. Her rescue team will need to take her for twice-yearly veterinary exams to monitor her heart and make sure her medication dosage remains appropriate. She will also need routine grooming to keep her comfortable and healthy. Tofu has so much love to give. She is quiet, incredibly relaxed, and absolutely loves to snuggle. Her sweet personality has earned her the title of our tiny little Chewbacca, and we think it suits her perfectly. ❤️ Your donations will help Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption continue providing Tofu with the veterinary monitoring, medication, grooming, and ongoing care she needs. Nala

Nala is a 5 month old Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois) in San Diego, CA, who needs $1,715 for Femoral Fracture X-rays.

My dog Nala lives with my husband our daughter and myself. She got her name from Nala the Lion in Lion King. Nala has a brother named Skar which is what lead us to call her Nala to have a Disney pair. We are seeking help for Nalas emergency visit to the VCA ER where she was sedated for X-rays and diagnosed with a comminuted distal femoral fracture. She was given pain medication but was sent home due to finding a low cost clinic to perform her surgery. My puppy, Nala, is special because she is so silly. She is a cuddle bug with someone after just meeting two minutes earlier. Once your hand lifts off her body she gives you THAT look to continue her belly rubs. She also is a scared baby, she gets scared at parked scooters and her own reflection. It means the world to have Nala in recovery because she is only a 5 month puppy who shouldn’t be worrying or hiding her pain to do everyday activities. Nala is a Belgian Malinois so it is important to me she is in full health to be able to be energetic wild maligator self.

Dak, my 10-year-old Shih Tzu, is the heart of our family. He’s loving, playful, and always by our side, bringing comfort and happiness into our lives every single day. His excitement when he sees us and the love he gives is unmatched. Dak is not just a pet—he is our best friend, our companion, and a true member of our family who means everything to us. Dak is suffering from a perineal hernia that is causing him severe discomfort and making it very difficult for him to use the bathroom. He strains and is clearly in pain, which is heartbreaking to watch. Without urgent surgery, his condition can worsen and become life-threatening. The cost is $5,000–$6,000, and he is being treated at Eclipse Animal Hospital by Dr. Jennifer Bonczynski. Dak is so much more than a pet; he is a beloved member of our family. For 10 years, he has filled our home with love, happiness, and companionship. His playful spirit, loyalty, and unconditional love have brought us comfort through good times and difficult moments. Dak has a special place in our hearts, and we want to do everything we can to give him the happy, healthy life he deserves. The cost of Dak’s surgery is more than I can manage right now. Duke has been our Family Dog since he was a puppy. He is now going on 10 and has developed a tennis ball sized lump under his chin in the past 2 months and he has lost his spunk. Always tired and in pain I took him to Skyline Animal Hospital and to test the lump to find out if it is cancerous and do lab work to see if he would be fit for surgery it is estimated $550 Duke had always just been Happy Go Lucky bringing nothing but joy to anyone who in his presence and loves to play with my 5 year old son whom adores him I recently lost my job of 3 years as a Safeway Driver and my unemployment just covers 75% of my rent and I am getting by with help of my EBT card. Just in need so I can finally figure out if Duke has cancer or not so we can move in the right direction.

Aphrodites parents were abandoned in California to starve on a property. Mom was 2-3 years old fully pregnant weighing 25lbs. I came across there story and wanted to give her life she deserves and all the love she wants. Right before the 4th of July she began to act differently and within 36 hrs she was fighting for her life vomiting and pooping blood and bowels all over the place. Her body almost gave up. She's trying to hold on she has hemorrhaging gastritis. And is slowly improving. She's at the john day oregon vetinary clinic. She's a very loving compassionate little mommas girl. She has to be touching mom's body while sleeping at night (mine) very playful energetic and sassy. Do to the financial strain of my financinces I need assistance with her bills so I'll be able to bring her home when she's in the clear. I will have my child back home. She's not just a dog she's my spoiled kid.

Calvin

We adopted Calvin in 2020 through a rescue in NH. He joined his big sister, Cleo, Dana, and I in our home in Scarborough. He has been the most perfect addition to our family ever since. Medically, Calvy has not had an easy ride. When we first adopted him, he struggled with tummy and skin issues, however, once figured out, he was a healthy, happy 50 pound boy with an amazing and shiny coat. In 2022, Calvin was brought to MVMC and was ultimately diagnosed with PLE. With a special diet, meds, and check ups, Calvin was back to his energetic self in no time. This past June, Calvin returned to MVMC because of concerning symptoms, where he was diagnosed with IMHA. After 3 weeks of recovering, he was readmitted twice within a week, due to other complications with IMHA and the strong meds. Calvy is the most special boy. He brightens every room, and everyone's day. He is goofy, energetic, curious, clever, and so loving. He lets his sisters boss him around, but he loves them. He loves running on trails, sticking his head out the window, sleeping under the covers during bedtime, eating snacks, laying on his (many) dog beds in any room we are in, and just being anywhere with his family. We work really hard: Dana's overtime days, and my working 3 part time gigs, even after teaching. With PLE, there were many medical expenses. And now, with IMHA, there are good days and hard days, and consistent medical expenses for our Calvy boy to be all the way healthy.

These puppies were rescued from a euthanasia list due to being underweight. We have a couple great employees willing to foster these puppies. We have only had them for a day so we haven't gotten to experience their full personalities yet. Despite what they have been through, they are all still so sweet. These puppies have a skin issue that needs treated. Along with routine prevenitive care like vaccines and to be spay/neutered when they're healthy enough. Each puppy has a completely different personality. Some are fearless explorers, while others are gentle cuddle bugs who just want to curl up in your lap. Watching them gain confidence, learn to play, and discover that people can be kind has been incredibly rewarding. They love toys, wrestling with one another, belly rubs, and nap time piled together. I took these puppies in because they needed help immediately, knowing the medical costs would add up quickly. Providing care for five puppies at once has become financially overwhelming.
